Tasted by nicholasagonzales on 4/26/2024 & rated 85 points: Maybe it was the bottle, but it was kind of flat. There seemed to be no complexity at all. It still had the beautiful yellow hue color and the smells were of pear and lemons. The taste was just off. Did bot enjoy nearly as much as the bottle we had a few months ago. (292 views)
Tasted by nicholasagonzales on 2/9/2024 & rated 92 points: Bottle should keep for a few more years. It is incredibly round and full-bodied. A crisp wine with slight citrus fruit smells. (444 views)
Tasted by azcowino on 12/22/2023 & rated 89 points: Still very nice as is the ‘14. (473 views)
Tasted by VinhoVerde on 11/11/2023 & rated 90 points: White fruit with hints of vanilla. Medium to full bodied and well balanced, this wine drinks well now. Still ,surprisingly, a little young. A little oak in the aftertaste. (613 views)
Tasted by slabslovin on 10/30/2023 & rated 89 points: Pretty good but too oaky (689 views)
Tasted by Thomas D on 2/11/2023 & rated 87 points: Did not enjoy as much as previous bottles. A little too much oak. Felt out of balance. (1137 views)
Tasted by mitiman2003 on 1/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Our second and last bottle of this delicious 2016 Chardonnay. Pale yellow color w/excellent clarity. Pleasing oaky notes on the nose initially, evolving quickly into floral and soft apple/pear aromas. Flavors of golden delicious apples, pears, and soft minerality. Perfectly balanced. Enjoy alone or with aromatic roast chicken or similar dishes. (961 views)
Tasted by mitiman2003 on 4/2/2022 & rated 93 points: Clear, pale yellow color. Mildly oaked aroma featuring notes of golden delicious apples, peach, and garden vegetables. Beautiful, subtle blend of apple, pear, and oak flavors. Perfectly balanced, with good structure to accompany fresh fish or other light dishes. Equally good for sipping with some cheese and crackers. This is a classic representative of the Chardonnay experience. (1803 views)
Tasted by Laz4wine on 3/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Wow, should have looked at my TN from this time last year, and Iamandyc's as well. Absolutely a different wine from fridge to warmer temp, completely changed and enhanced the experience as it warmed. Wish I had decanted it in fact, likely deserves that full force treatment given the amazing aromatic acrobatics it revealed over time. The toasty-nutty butterscotch nose and flavors plus creamy texture were solid. Really enjoyed and only wish I had taken a bit more time to truly savor it. (1668 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 12/3/2021 & rated 91 points: This bottle was much better than my last. Two different wines depending on temperature. When colder, it's crisper and the stone fruit prevails. As it warms the body builds, notes of butter and cream arrive, and a nutty edge emerges. Kind of liked each phase. (2094 views)
Tasted by awever on 11/14/2021 & rated 93 points: Sehr schöner Napa Chardonnay, Holz und Frucht in feiner Kombination, perfekte Begleitung zum Zürcher Geschnetzelten mit Rösti (1547 views)
Tasted by RichardZula on 10/8/2021: Very good, balanced but powerful California chardonnay, long delicious finish. (1638 views)
Tasted by Thebigbaby on 9/7/2021 & rated 88 points: Bumped the rating up a couple of points since the last tasting as the oak is subsiding and it has become more pleasurable. Much better/best closer to room temperature and on day 2. (1331 views)
Tasted by Nolch on 8/29/2021 & rated 92 points: At peak now accounting for 92 rating (1224 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 7/19/2021 & rated 92 points: Delicious over 2 days. Drink/hold (1391 views)
Tasted by Thebigbaby on 6/27/2021 & rated 85 points: Its just ok. The oak has begun to soften but still plays a leading role. Basic, standard California, malo Chard that is just overall flat and underwhelming. Day 2 is not worth it for sure. (1275 views)
Tasted by Laz4wine on 3/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Nice toasty nutty vanilla aromatics, subtle but elegant palate with citrus, butter, and toasted caramel notes. Creamy texture and lengthy tart finish. Fine stuff here. (1748 views)
Tasted by Scottwhipp on 3/8/2021 & rated 90 points: Palate of lightly buttered ripe pineapple with a subtle hint of lime zest on the finish. Delicate texture. Seems like the wine has softened with age. Drink now or over the next year as it may be waning a bit. (1573 views)
Tasted by shaferguy91 on 2/3/2021 & rated 89 points: Disappointing. 10 years ago Newton Unfiltered was wonderful but this is only mediocre. (1807 views)
Tasted by Thebigbaby on 12/29/2020 & rated 85 points: Good bottle of California chardonnay. We did enjoy and we do like oak, vanilla and butter in our chardonnays. However, I have not had Newton Unfiltered in years and from what I remember it used to be more layered and complex. This bottle was more of a standard chardonnay that showed promise on the nose and the finish but fell short on the midpalate. The PP of $22 from Last Bottle is about right. Would not pay more. (1719 views)
Tasted by Francophile1 on 12/28/2020 & rated 88 points: I think I found another Chardonnay that my wife enjoys. She loves a Chardonnay that is equal parts tropical fruit, butter, and oak. As for me, I prefer the more Burgundian style, but this did pair nicely with my butter poached Florida lobster tail. (1660 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 12/18/2020 & rated 89 points: OK. Seems to be fading already. Totally blown away by a 2013 Stonestreet Upper Barn. (1461 views)
Tasted by Dr. Wine MD PhD ;) on 12/17/2020 & rated 90 points: Light golden yellow with aromas of fruit. Crisp, refreshing, tangy/acidic without any heaviness with a medium body with complex flavors that include peach and a good finish. I communicated with winemaker as had a couple of cases and wanted to know its longevity and received the following -

"It is definitely ready to enjoy now, but it can lay down for another ten years. We recently opened a Magnum of Unfiltered Chardonnay 1992 and it was spectacular. It had a very rich texture, with notes of pineapple, apricot and a bit of baked apple pie. The 2016 UF Chard will exhibit much more vibrant fresh fruits like tangerine. Its beautifully balanced with a pleasant crisp character. So, It all depends on your pallet and what you prefer.

Within the next year or two, the fresh fruit flavors will slowly start to disappear. It’ll be a very mild difference. The true expression will change in about four years from now; exhibiting more of the apricot and baked apple pie notes.
Cheers,
Edgar Aviña". (1428 views)
Tasted by eporres on 12/16/2020 & rated 92 points: Sad to see the last bottle go :-(

Paired well with roasted bone marrow and seared scallops (1182 views)
Tasted by eporres on 11/16/2020 & rated 92 points: Consistent with previous tasting notes, and served with almond-crusted halibut (and lemon garlic butter), making for a great flavor combination. (1351 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
