Tasted by Hiker4life70 on 5/16/2024 & rated 91 points: This wine has great QPR. Pretty nose of black fruit, purple flowers, and graphite. The finish has a nice tobacco and minerality to it. It was very tasty alone with fine tannins and lots of acidity but yet held its own with the rack of lamb (1068 views)
Tasted by Peraix on 5/4/2024 & rated 93 points: Good wine that drinks well. Will keep my next bottle for 5 years to soften it up further. (1606 views)
Tasted by Vince_chip on 5/3/2024 & rated 92 points: Une belle intensité, légère saveur de vanille, fruits noirs et rouges. Tanins bien arrondis. À point dans son évolution. (1541 views)
Tasted by Ryan@Rhone on 4/8/2024 & rated 91 points: Didn’t decant but kept open for a couple of hours. The nose was very closed throughout. Grippy tannis and good acidity. Fruit is there but a little nondescript. It wasn’t interesting or compelling for me but OK for Monday night. Will see how it goes over a few more years. Reasonable quality for the price and good food wine. (2133 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 3/25/2024 & rated 93 points: Yup...we still good. We gonna get better....Last note on this for me. Read other notes and Enjoy! (2329 views)
Tasted by kendrickbaker on 3/21/2024 & rated 92 points: Closed nose but vibrant cassis and dark fruit with slightly musky and dusty mid palate. Finish is a bit short. (1912 views)
Tasted by WineGuyDelMar on 3/17/2024 & rated 93 points: Decanted two hours. This has really transformed itself into something really good now. Earthy, musty, barnyard Bordeaux that I’m really liking now. I didn’t really think much of this until now and now I’d like to buy more and I will. Medium weight but lots of Bordeaux character now. (2268 views)
Tasted by Darbus123 on 3/15/2024 & rated 90 points: Shows the Pessac characteristics nicely. Best after a few hours. I liked this but won’t be buying more, I prefer Carbonnieux in this price bracket (1732 views)
Tasted by trumpet60201 on 1/30/2024 & rated 92 points: This is a big wine (14.5% abv, and loaded with flavor), and has a nice finish. It is quite tannic and a hair drying - it got better with air. 91-92. (2896 views)
Tasted by Claymonster on 12/28/2023 & rated 91 points: Decanted 2 1/2 hours, back in the bottle, and consumed over another 2-3 hours with braised lamb shanks. Phenomenal bouquet of concentrated red fruits, cassis, and new leather. Slightly dusty like grandpa's closet - just my style. Same elements on the palate plus some slate/graphite and bitter chocolate and espresso notes. Medium+ body, balanced soft tannins and acidity, extended finish. Well structed with a foundation to go the distance. Holding my one remaining bottle for many years. Or maybe I should just get more because the price is still reasonable.

Music pairing: Bernard Lloret - Avec Du Bleu (2761 views)
Tasted by Pontifax on 12/27/2023 & rated 93 points: Second Christmas dinner wine.
On nose: mesquite charcoal, and an intense , dry Kirsch note.
On palate: both above flavours amplified, with present eucalyptus, cigar tobacco, roasted walnuts, and more tart , fresh cherry notes.
A 9 year old Pessac displaying resolved tannins, and a full bodied mouthfeel, almost leaning toward a high end Napa valley cabernet....the 14% alcohol is well woven into the whole, without heat.
Veal rib chops with winter vegetables played well with this. (2657 views)
Tasted by NEducatedGes on 12/26/2023 & rated 91 points: Wow just beautiful after 2 hr decant. Oak is still there but not in the way, red fruit and silky smooth finish. Tannins are there but not gritty. Hold and for not 92*•+- 93! (2504 views)
Tasted by jarthars on 12/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Pnp on a random Sunday night with leftover pizza… first of a case and so delicious right out of the bottle clearly with long runway ahead, but not at all a disappointment to drink now. Update: Frank the remainder on day 3 and I wished I had finished it on 1 or 2… definitely felt a little off-kilter and flabby on day 3. Looking fwd to the rest of the case though. (3040 views)

Typisch pessac (2313 views)
Tasted by ChristoBretts on 11/19/2023 & rated 90 points: Decanted and drank over two days. Reserved for the first day giving very little to the nose, then freed up a "little" on day two for a bit of black fruit and tar. Much the same with the palate, with a bit of minerality on day two. On day three there was some bitterness on the end. Overall, this bottle was closed. Will be interesting to see what happens over time. (2545 views)
Tasted by COWineLover on 11/13/2023 & rated 91 points: First bottle of six, and my first Latour-Martillac since I finished the 2009 vintage about two years ago. The cork was stained like pen ink and was well sealed. No decant but aerated the first glass about 45 minutes prior to consumption. I found this aromatically stingy. My recollection from the 2009 vintage is that wine offered the Pessac crushed stone that is absent here. The aromas that did emerge leaned black - black plums, black raspberry, black cherry, and clove. Given the stingy aromas I was prepared for a mouth puckering dryness that never appeared. On the attack this gallops along nicely offering a tart yet juicy burst of the same black fruits that presented aromatically. For me this has the minimum acidic backbone needed to provide lift, but there is not much reserve on that front. In the mid palate this turns decidedly toward smoke, clove, and a tart dried black cherry. Not as much length as I would have liked, and the tart cherry carries a bit of pastiness toward the conclusion.

Solid overall and for the price a nice QPR. In another 12-18 months the tart fruits should start to fan out with more elegance and nuance. From my bottle experience tonight, the remaining 5 bottles are probably best consumed on an 18 month schedule through about 2030. (3126 views)
Tasted by iBurg1229 on 11/10/2023 & rated 92 points: 14% ABV. Deep ruby appearance. Coravin pour. This was initially reticent in glass but opened up nicely over half an hour.

Notes of blackberry, cassis, black plum, sweet tobacco, toast, clove, graphite, tilled earth. This also has a tar-ry/roasted character which I haven’t decided if I like or not, but is interesting. Medium body on the palate. Still grippy but approachable tannins. Refreshing backbone of acidity. Finish is sneaky long.

Yep, this is great QPR and a textbook interpretation of Bordeaux. There’s a certain quietness yet authority to this wine that I enjoy. This is drinkable now but I’d prefer holding for a few more years for tannins to resolve further. (2653 views)
Tasted by pinkhouse on 11/5/2023 & rated 91 points: A bit early yet chose to give this a run. With an hour in the decanter, it was still tight yet developed nicely over the evening. Aromas more progressed than palette yet the tannins are both intense yet elegant. Will certainly be better in 5 years, so patience is a virtue. Terrific qpr and miles ahead of anything I have found from napa in this price range. (2779 views)
Tasted by kidsmurf2000 on 10/28/2023 & rated 95 points: This was fantastic, ready to drink now, could get even better with age (2965 views)
Tasted by Psdycp on 10/27/2023 & rated 93 points: Very fragrant bouquet. Good balance. Ripe blackfruits, leather, toasted spices and hints of dark chocolate. Palate is rich and elegant at the same time. Some cedary oak and sweet fruits in a medium-bodied structure. Nice transition to a smooth and lingering finish. Ready to drink now with an hour of decanting. Will last for a decade or more if stored well. (2636 views)
Tasted by Motz on 10/18/2023 & rated 93 points: Consistent with previous notes.

Compelling, traditional Left Bank perfume, including scorched earth. Rustic, expansive, and gripping at all phases. Excellent balance of fruit and earth. Serious acid and tannic structure. Lower alcohol would have made this more complete.

All elements point to a long maturation curve, for no less than a decade from now. Likely to show best after 2035 and hold through 2040+. Outstanding QPR! Improvement seems likely. 93-94. (3316 views)
Tasted by Stoic Warrior on 9/29/2023: More focused than the 2012 I opened last week and similar to my note about this 2015 vintage back on 10 March '22. While I am generally more of a Right Bank guy when it comes to Bordeaux, I am pleased with my decision a few years ago when I chose this producer as my mid-priced, mid-market, 'go to' Left Bank tipple. (2862 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 7/30/2023 & rated 93 points: Really delicious Bordeaux, showing well despite it's relative youth. I tend to buy this in most vintages but '15 is especially enticing, with black fruit and nice acidity; this approaches the quality of the very best vintages like '05, '09 and '10. One of the most consistent producers across vintages and still at a reasonable price. 93+pts. (3732 views)
Tasted by goldenplover on 7/29/2023 & rated 90 points: Very good - it does it's thing. I drank this with fillet steak and it was excellent, as it should be. Has life in it for a few years. Lovely stuff. (3178 views)
Tasted by Hiker4life70 on 7/17/2023 & rated 90 points: Pretty wine for the price, went great with ribeye steaks. (3535 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
