Prune, reduced sour cherry, and some raspberry flavors. Dark and brooding. Held too long. (684 views) | | Tasted by johnthomason on 8/25/2012 & rated 95 points: Beautiful balanced taste. Jammy smell. One of the top two zins I've had recently. (1291 views) | | Tasted by Dbader on 1/25/2012 & rated 90 points: Very good! (1361 views) | | Tasted by Grenik on 3/27/2011 & rated 90 points: Maroon in color with a little peach on rim. Spicy nose but with nice cherry and vanilla notes. Bold red fruits, cola, and vanilla taste, but not jammy. Well integrated with some pine and forest tones, especially leading to the very well balanced finish. A bit flat on the second day. Time to drink up? (1631 views) | | Tasted by dyuhas on 3/8/2010 & rated 88 points: Perhaps the best CA Zin I've ever tasted. (1811 views) | | Tasted by MBrown on 11/28/2009 & rated 92 points: Ton of rasberry flavor here with pepper and a good creaminess. Great bottle of zin. (1675 views) | | Tasted by MBrown on 3/13/2008 & rated 93 points: It's a perfect zin for my palate - ripe fruit but not overly ripe (i.e. rasberries not dried rasberries/raisins); great spice and some vanilla imparted from the oak (I assume).
If someone asked me what zin should taste like I'd hand them this bottle. It's a fruit forward wine but not a fruit bomb; there is some style to it. (1244 views) |

Bob Ponzo has farmed these grapes for us in the Russian River Valley since 1999. Bob's vineyard, on deep, gravely loam soils four and a half miles south of Lytton Springs provides all the fruit for our Ponzo Zinfandel. The Russian River Valley's cooler microclimate ripens the grapes shortly after Lytton Springs and Geyserville. Small amounts of petite sirah are interplanted with zinfandel in the oldest block.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
