Tasted by bdhanna on 4/9/2024 & rated 89 points: Still tastes great !! I found one more bottle in my cellar. I agree with my tasting note of over 9 months ago. A classic CDR at peak and delicious !! (32 views)
Tasted by bdhanna on 6/24/2023 & rated 89 points: Still shows fruit, at peak or just past !!
The cork was in near perfect after over a decade in the bottle, easily removed. Dark purple color with medium clarity. Consumed over two days, still a powerful wine. Aromas of raspberry and garrigue. Flavors of black cherry, plum, and white pepper with a medium to long peppery finish. The Côtes du Rhône La Devèze is a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 10% Carignan and 5% Cinsault that are all over 30 year old. This Côtes du Rhône is medium to full bodied and fairly well balanced. Winemaker Andre Farjon has 50 hectares of vines that he started farming biodynamically in 2008 and are now certified organic. The grapes are sourced from clay and limestone slopes around the town of Uchaux, as well as the gravel and clay soils on the flatter areas around Cairanne, giving Farjon a range of terroirs with which to work. A fairly inexpensive wine that has cellared well. My last bottle of the vintage, well aged, and delicious. (162 views)
Tasted by Price-O on 6/2/2015 & rated 90 points: The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. This wine will improve through 2016. (2539 views)
Tasted by RMapou on 9/15/2013 & rated 87 points: Cherry, with peppery flavors. Still has some tannin and should continue to age. (5293 views)
Tasted by Kesslerc14 on 8/18/2013 & rated 88 points: Very tight, but quality wine. Raspberry and graphite (5323 views)
Tasted by Rer on 6/13/2013 & rated 91 points: Better at hr #4 (5823 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 5/13/2013 & rated 88 points: Still needed aeration. Tight as a drum, and rather one-dimensional. Still a decent value. (5637 views)
Tasted by tenor12bucks on 4/1/2013 & rated 85 points: A $12 Grenache-Syrah blend that tastes like ... well, a $12 Grenache-Syrah blend. Fruit-forward nose but not much interesting going on after that. Whatever flavor is here comes out only after an hour decant. (3854 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 3/26/2013 & rated 88 points: Still pretty tannic, it needs decanting or aeration. Black cherries on the palate, but not much else. Medium body and a decent finish, but it's missing complexity and/or a "wow" factor. Of course, for $12 a bottle...... (1538 views)
Tasted by sheehanphoto on 2/27/2013 & rated 84 points: I'm a newby, so take it with a grain of salt. I felt it was a little acidic. On the other hand, I didn't decant it, and it was only $12. (1633 views)
Tasted by InternationalWineReport on 1/21/2013 & rated 88 points: Aromas of raspberry, herbs, spices, herbs and a hints of licorice. Medium-bodied with firm, yet silky tannins. The finish mixes in some spice notes. (Best 2013-2015) (1744 views)
Tasted by sdwineguru on 12/3/2012 & rated 89 points: Good value in food-friendly Cotes du Rhone. Earthy, animal, ripe berry nose; mid-body, balanced; decent structure for the price; soft fruity finish. w/meatloaf! (2137 views)
Tasted by TampaMark on 11/26/2012 & rated 87 points: Excellent QPR. Went great with Thanksgiving Dinner. (1847 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 11/19/2012 & rated 89 points: Still needs time, but it's drinkable with aeration. Black and blue fruits with a little smoke and a little garrigue. Medium body and a pretty good finish. Terrific value. (1886 views)
Tasted by Jay72274 on 10/4/2012: some of the notes said this wine is still really young, I was surprised at how relatively open it smelled and tasted. decent, fruit forward, hoping this just gets better with age. (2133 views)
Tasted by blakel on 9/11/2012 & rated 89 points: Agressive tannins mellowed over two hours. Fruit forward and tasty, better in a couple of years. (2096 views)
Tasted by slmral on 8/4/2012 & rated 85 points: Not much more than some Grenache on the nose. Tannin's still very noticeable on the palate. Appropriate for the price. (2029 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 6/6/2012: No numerical rating, because I wouldn't know how at this point. One of the gurus (Parker?) said to drink this from 2013 thru 2015, but how closed and tannic can a humble wine like this be? Extremely. Day 1: painfully tannic and extremely closed, even after aeration. Day 2: only slightly better. Day3: still tannic as hell, but starting to open up. Thin, with a stunningly abrupt finish on days 1 and 2, it was almost medium bodied with a finish that didn't have to be measured in milliseconds by day 3. Seems to have some nice dark fruit, with more-than-subtle notes of smoke and garrigue. After another year (minimum), it just might be pretty enjoyable, although I doubt that it will equal their '09 "La Cigalette". (2397 views)
Tasted by DanH on 1/25/2012 & rated 85 points: Well made wine, but honestly pretty weak palate...except for a nice cherry overtone. Strange immature sour that I don't love. Bitter touch, but much more enjoyable with food. Lamb worked well. (3076 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
