Medium+ body with still good acidity,on vanilla, oxidative note with white flower, . Drink now, near end of it's drinking life The wine looks yellow gold colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. (1693 views) | | Tasted by cybergod on 3/16/2012: Surprisingly vibrant and young for 7 years old. Complex, nutty, waxy elements, but with no real oxidative notes and still some nice rounded fruit elements. Really much better than expected, given the track record of this wine (other vintages have been very tropical and have gone to the bruised fruit spectrum quite quickly). (2650 views) | | Tasted by formula1 on 7/2/2011 & rated 85 points: What was an exciting wine not long ago is now a very low acid flabby wine. All of the grape varieties melded into a luscious blend, but the lack of acidity made it seem like a fruit cocktail. Passed it's prime by a long ways. (2994 views) | | Tasted by formula1 on 12/13/2010 & rated 92 points: Very much agree with an earlier note. Wine is luscious with sweet pineapple, butterscotch, peach, vanilla all in a complex lingering finish. The darker colour does suggest though that the wine is aging quickly and will likely not get any better. Not much acid left in this wine either at this point in time....but still wonderful. (3305 views) | | Tasted by cybergod on 8/22/2010 & rated 85 points: Canned fruit (pears) aromatics and a rich oaky, butterscotch/nutty palette. The acidity is very low, so the wine comes off as being bit flabby. It's also showing some oxidative qualities, with a distinct gold colour and sherry-like quality to the finish; my experience with the Stratus White in previous vintages is that it typically drinks well in the first years after the vintage date, then starts to age very quickly. Drink this up if you've got some in the cellar.
(Note: revised tasting note, based on retasting two days after the bottle was opened.) (3335 views) | | Tasted by Tarrant on 3/22/2009 & rated 93 points: Glorious, a hedonistic white that is simply a fabulous treat, anyone who enjoys 'big' white wines would be impressed with this blend of 6 varietals - Gold, quite viscous with notes of pear, peach, flowers, lychee, butterscotch and vanillla on the nose, well made, complex and a bit of heat, opulent and smooth on the palate with terrific length, awesome (93 Points). (2448 views) | | Tasted by Niagara on 12/14/2008 & rated 85 points: May have needed a little more time in the bottle, or this was just a better bottle than my first one, but this turned into quite an agreeable wine with hints of muskmelon, papaya, and beeswax. Still a certain excess of oakiness but less pronounced than previously. Paired up well with tandoori chicken. Would still not purchase again at this price point, however. (2183 views) | | Tasted by Niagara on 7/2/2008: So much oak and butter that if you didn't know it was Canadian, you might think it a Gordon Gecko-era California chardonnay. The style is too heavy for my taste, but regardless, at $44 CDN a bottle, similar experiences can be had far more cheaply. Perfectly reasonable wine with food -- something with a bit of zing is advised -- but too unctuous for an unaccompanied cocktail. (2052 views) |
