Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 134 notes)

Tasted by rwpalmer on 12/27/2023 & rated 89 points: Pale-mid gold. Expansive nose of lychee, quince and baked apples. Lovely weight and hint of sweetness on the palate. Gourmand but enough of a good thing, so probably time to drink up. (709 views)
Tasted by BobMcK on 12/9/2023: Deep gold in colour. Honeyes, almost botyrised nose. Tropical fruit, mango and peach, demi sec. Worked astonishly well with cod in madera suace. (650 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 1/28/2023 & rated 88 points: Typical Chenin Blanc on the nose, with notes of honey. Rich, but a bit bland, and not as good as earlier bottles. (1536 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 12/3/2022 & rated 91 points: Rich Chenin Blanc aromas with honey and sea shore. Rich and quite dry on the palate, still with the Clos de Bourg elegance. (1443 views)
Tasted by MattHo on 3/14/2022 & rated 92 points: Fresh as a daisy, very spirited. Tempting aromas of apples, pears, quince. Not too sweet, fair acidity - good balance and a great food wine.

No rush to drink this, still very young - settling into teenage years nicely but not yet fully mature by any means! (2113 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 2/4/2022 & rated 91 points: Citrus, honey, nuts and minerals on the nose. Feels dry on the nose, which it did not some years ago. Light weighted, subtle and elegant, and typical Bourg. (2052 views)
Tasted by jreynolds3 on 12/18/2021 & rated 93 points: Drinking very nicely. Paired well with fettuccini alfredo. (2134 views)
Tasted by cephomer on 10/28/2021 & rated 93 points: Had with dessert at Panetiere last nite at our farewell dinner. Fascinating wine. We just had a Huet 2019 sec version a few nites earlier so this was an interesting comparison. Nose is very fresh, with some citrus and honey notes. Very clean, youthful and fresh on the palate, with plenty of white fruit, definitive minerality and notes of nuttiness, and crisp acidity. The subtle touch of sweetness, in combination with the other elements described, I found to be very interesting and made for a very enjoyable tasting experience--somewhat reminiscent of a riesling. Chenin blanc very often impresses me and this wine did not disappoint. (2129 views)
Tasted by ssouth on 10/7/2021 & rated 94 points: Lemon Chicken with Green Harissa. From a Marcus Samuelson cookbook called Red Rooster. We skipped the eggplant and used premade harissa

2005 Domaine SA Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray Demi-Sec. alc 12%
Clear moderate pale yellow. Intense slightly sweet lemon curd with a brisk/crisp palate attack. Hint of nuttiness
Very much alive

Excellent with the lemon sauce and harissa chicken (1940 views)
Tasted by glou.sf on 9/28/2021 flawed bottle: This tasted a bit oxidized and nothing like the last bottle we’ve had :( (1816 views)
 Tasted by GAET on 8/25/2021 & rated 93 points: Sucre résiduel : 17.6 g, acidité 4.3 g et 13.5°

J'adore

Tasted by Rieslingfan on 9/20/2020: I am definitely a Chenin Blanc skeptic. I have had a few that amazed, but they were usually 50 year old versions. After the disaster that was 2002 Huet premox, I was not willing to take the chance on investing money in potential time bombs. Thankfully this 2005 did not suffer the fate of its 2002 brethren, and was in fact quite youthful and fresh. It had started to develop some interesting layers of complexity, and showed some aromatic/flavor nuances I was not expecting, and in fact could not even really pin down. As a drinker of German Riesling I was not at all put off by the demi-sec level of sweetness, and it actually worked very well alongside the black bean & chipotle soup I served for dinner. Left a glass or so to check on tonight. If this bottle was any indication there could be years and years of profitable development, but I don't have any more to validate that premise. (2759 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 5/28/2020 & rated 91 points: This a perfect, and perfectly mature, bottle of this wine. Honey and nuts. Any sugar now scarcely detectable. Quite weighty and concentrated. Acidity actually slightly on the low side. (2029 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/12/2020 flawed bottle: Sound color. Honey and a fistful of TCA. (2523 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/18/2020 flawed bottle: Corked. Undignified for my last bottle of this terrific wine to go out this way. Oh well. (2670 views)
Tasted by winot on 11/23/2019 & rated 93 points: Medium to medium deep gold, citrus butter and lanolin nose, broad and integrated - palate same, with a suggestion of sweetness that never fully takes hold before the minerality arrives and whisks it off to a dry finish - as always, everything in balance, a cerebral treat, a window to time and terroir, with a long and satisfying finish. So good. (2393 views)
Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 7/17/2019: Fruit profile is still youthful, flavors and color are yellow-toned so no premox here thankfully. It's round and soft on account of a sweetness that's honestly beyond the parameters that I can deal with as a wine to drink with dinner (and not enough acid to enliven) - better to serve this with a cheese course or something. (4915 views)
 Tasted by GAET on 5/10/2019 & rated 93 points: Sucre résiduel : 17.6 g, acidité 4.3 g et 13.5°

J'adore

Tasted by redknife on 4/18/2019 & rated 92 points: Took to Phils bistro with Felipe and Mike
It’s been months but my recollection is that this wine is always good. Paired well with escargot (1904 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 12/9/2018: Maybe just not a good night for me, but this came off as a bit flabby to me with honey flavors but not enough cut or acid....some left corked in fridge...I will revisit (2527 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 12/1/2018 & rated 90 points: Typical Chenin Blanc on the nose, with waxy citrus and honey. Full bodied for a Bourg. Some sweetness, which is balanced by a very good acidity. (2123 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/28/2018: Welcome Back, Michelle! (San Francisco): Medium yellow. Very honeyed. Excellent Chenin texture, relatively dry, outstanding acidity for the year. After a chemically flawed bottle earlier this year, this showed terrific purity and youthfulness, the sort of bottle that could easily see its 25th year in good shape. (3214 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 8/3/2018 & rated 94 points: WIML94

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of honeysuckle, lychee and lemon curd. Flavors of lemon curd, lime, lychee and a drop of honey. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold. (2718 views)
Tasted by cephomer on 6/27/2018 & rated 91 points: Drank last nite vs the 05 Moellieux version (which was far more enjoyable).
Pale amber color, nose of honey and perhaps orange marmalade. Off dry, medium bodied, some orange, some quince, a bit on the nutty side. Nice wine (2834 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 6/15/2018 & rated 93 points: Great wine. Very smooth and seamless. I loved the mature note of what my fiancée called black Sharpie or overripe banana. Something similar to petrol in Riesling. It gave this wine a sense of nobleness. (2756 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 5/18/2018 & rated 88 points: Coravin 5/18/18: Black ?mold on top of cork, involving the top 1/2cm though the remainder of the cork (and the part touching the wine) was clean and dry. Unclear what that was, but when trying to Coravin and injecting the argon, wine spurted out the side of the cork. A failure of the Coravin.
After the bottle was opened in a more traditional way, color was light yellow-golden; nose was aromatic, light honey, acacia flowers; palate was medium bodied, slight richer oily texture, off-dry, medium-minus acid; short finish. A weaker, simpler Huet, but still interesting and enjoyable to try one with some age. 88-89
Day 3: Largely the same. Still has nice aromas and flavors, but shorter on the finish than expected for Huet. 88 (2444 views)
Tasted by xwine on 3/8/2018: A lovely example of maturing Vouvray. Some honey and baked peach, nicely (and somewhat richly) textured and balanced, a very pleasant slight bitterness to offset the touch of sweetness. Lots of interest, this is in a very good place right now. (2437 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/6/2018: Healthy full yellow. Honey, citrus, and a slight whiff of a funny high toned chemical smell that lurked throughout the life of the bottle. Medium weight, really nice glycerine roundness and texture. Off dry, mix of pear and citrus fruit, excellent acidity. This doesn't quite have the intensity of the best bottles of this, and it tailed off at the end. The last few bottles have been quite variable, so maybe it is time to down any remaining stocks. (2827 views)
Tasted by redknife on 2/1/2018 & rated 93 points: with the thursday crowd
always good
went great with mussels (2306 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/9/2018: Deep yellow. Rising aromas and flavors of bright citrus. Usual glycerine feel, off dry, excellent acidity, and lingering soil. Very fresh and much better than a dull bottle last month. (2679 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 1/5/2018 & rated 91 points: Light golden amber color. Nose is tighter then other glasses, with some coaxing showing orange marmalade, honeycomb, with nut oil and vanilla secondary notes. Palate is medium bodied, with hints of tart melon, orange peel, quince, passion fruit and crushed nuts. Well made and enjoyable. (2280 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/24/2017: Medium yellow. Typical weight and feel. Off dry. Sound and far better than Le Mont tonight, but still somewhat subdued fruit and muted overall compared to how well other bottles have drunk recently. You wonder if this was one of those low grade TCA-affected bottles, but it did not go down the usual corked path of getting much worse with air. (2343 views)
Tasted by cwjames on 12/22/2017 & rated 89 points: mature, gentle, evident sweetness from the the demi-sec style, melon notes. Went well with gnocci. (2102 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 11/18/2017: The !*&#show (Spring (Downtown Los Angeles)): Wow again. Stunning nose, with loads of honey and guava. Beautiful texture and acidity, with an amazingly soft sweetness. Fantastic finish. Every bit as good as the last time I had this...which was very good! (2680 views)
Tasted by GAET on 11/1/2017 & rated 93 points: C'est toujours aussi bon !! voir mon précédent commentaire. (2340 views)
Tasted by redknife on 10/20/2017 & rated 94 points: Very nice wine, medium to full body with apricot and honey notes

Took to Christis with the group; paired well with tuna tartare and a veggie flatberad (2323 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 10/1/2017: Full yellow. Pure honey on the nose. Off dry entry with apple and citrus, beautiful texture and weight, great acidity, and a ton of finishing soil that always seems to distinguish Clos du Bourg. Great showing! This seems to have gained structure over time and now has a thrilling counterpoint of sweet fruit balanced by cleansing acidity. (2645 views)
Tasted by glou.sf on 9/22/2017 & rated 95 points: Ripe peach, honey, minerals, and some flowers on the nose. Apple, melon, honey, and citrus flavors on the palate. Really nice balance between the acidity and sweetness. Beautiful, long finish. (2415 views)
Tasted by Troon on 9/22/2017 & rated 92 points: Decanted for about an hour and served just below cellar temps. There is tropical notes and mineral on the nose. The palate is crisp and balanced with notes of lemon and burnt sugar. I enjoy the demi-sec because it is subtly sweet. Very enjoyable. (2171 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/28/2017: Full yellow. Typical pear and citrus. Medium weight, off dry, excellent soil, good acidity. Just suffers from a dip in intensity mid-palate, but otherwise perfectly sound. (2838 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 6/2/2017 & rated 91 points: Spicy aromas. Guessed it was a pinot gris from Alsace. Very intense and concentrated, still smooth, tangy and elegant. (1946 views)
Tasted by Doc90 on 4/22/2017 & rated 94 points: Tasted blind. Enchanting nose full of minerals, fresh peaches, and sweet perfume. I really like this fresh nose. Tropical fruit up front with stunning clarity and balance throughout. Hints of Fruity Pebbles. Superb depth. When a wine is complex enough to challenge your ability to describe it, you know it's really good stuff. (3203 views)
Tasted by redknife on 4/15/2017 & rated 92 points: With the group at Le Provencale

No formal notes but the nose was very nice and wine went well with sweet breads with a light caper sauce.

The light sweetness of the wine counterbalanced the sweet breads sauce (3007 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 3/18/2017: Excellent and much as described by Loren, although I also got some honied notes, but I only tasted it early and then the others secreted it away...glad I have more (3036 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 2/26/2017 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about an hour.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of apricot, peach and brandy soaked pears. Flavors of pears, peaches and kumquats. Medium to bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold. (3366 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 1/27/2017 & rated 94 points: An eclectic mix of nice wines with friends (Pine Lake Trout Club): Great showing for this wine. If anything, it got a bit underrated being the first wine. Golden in color. The nose is very nice especially once it warmed up. Citrus, mostly orange with a slight herbal note and a nice salinity to it. Also slight crushed shells. On the palate, slightly viscous, barely sweet. Nice complex if tight and young. Drinkable now but needs air. Easily a decade left in this with no degradation. (3487 views)

(2578 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/16/2016: Full yellow. Typical quince scents. Medium weight, not terribly concentrated for Vouvray. It has a lemony core that I don't think I've experienced before in this wine. Thereafter, more expected honey and spice, only off dry. Impressive in its youthfulness and no oxidation whatsoever. Excellent. (2624 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 11/27/2016 flawed bottle: Corked! (2742 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 11/18/2016: This one was in a good place. (2720 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 10/23/2016 & rated 91 points: My third glass thru Coravin. This wine sings with pure chenin notes of honey suckle, beeswax, lanolin, and blanched nuts and a touch of Meyer lemon. Long and smooth finish. Well made and easily enjoyable throughout a meal. (2384 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 10/3/2016: served with many friends to accompany lobster and shellfish. Funky chenin nose and not quite the acidity I would have hoped for, but still contrasted pretty well with ripe sweet fruit. Color not orange but very full gold. Folks were in raptures but I thought it pretty good...not sure if this gets better with time, but not sure you need to wait if you have a few bottles (2454 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 9/9/2016 flawed bottle: Corked (2713 views)
Tasted by Vinophiliac559 on 6/12/2016 & rated 91 points: Paired with Thai food, very nice texture, good balance, went great with the semi-spicy dishes we had (3027 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/19/2016: Dinner with Two Jadot 1993 Grand Cru Reds (Liholiho Yacht Club, San Francisco): Full yellow. Over time, baked apple, honey, and pear, but it took a while to release these scents. Off dry, some bitterness to start but gradually found its footing and texture. Good but not as glorious as it can be. (3766 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 2/28/2016 & rated 90 points: Coravin 2/28/16: Yellow-golden color; nose is aromatic, orange peel, almost a little funk like brett?; palate is medium-full bodied, slight buttered popcorn, oily texture, some white fruit, acidity is medium-low; medium finish. This is a strange bottle, probably in an awkward phase, and it lacks the crisp acidity of the best Chenin blanc. I'm not sure I like this now, though I have one more bottle to try in a few years. 89-90
1 hour air: melds together a bit better; oily orange citrus on the nose; palate is showing a bit more acidity. This is interesting, though maybe still falls short of purely enjoyable. 90-91
2/29/16: Opened the rest of the bottle. A bit better integrated than yesterday. The nose has less funk, more orange rind with slight minerality; palate shows a bit more acidity than yesterday, a bit less flabby; finish is medium length. Still, this is more interesting than enjoyable. At its release price it is probably a value, but at $50-60 it's a pass. 90 (3094 views)
Tasted by daghaug on 2/16/2016: Vått hår, nøtter (mandler), litt potetkjeller på duft. Lite frukt på nese. Svært fyldig i munnen samtidig som den er frisk (men ikke som en riesling). Noe merkbar sødme, men ikke mye. Mye mandelpreg i avslutningen. Kompleks og rik vin, men mangler kanskje noe friskhet for vår smak i forhold til en riesling kabinett. Er nok en matvin, men ikke spesielt god match til sushi. Vi liker dette, men foretrekker nok viner med mer syre. (3283 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 1/8/2016 & rated 90 points: Pale straw color wheat in nature. Nose of leechy, quince, honey suckle and flower. Palate is where this wine shines with lush honey, pineapple juxtaposed with citrus rind, blanched nuts and white earth. Long finish of honey suckle. (3158 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 1/8/2016: Lower acidity than what I expected, but still light on its feet. Pear and orange rind and quite a nice match to a flavorful fried rice and chicken dish. (2876 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/6/2016: Burnished light golden. More orange than pear plus a lick of honey. Off dry. Full, soft feel, nice fruit, a dusting of spices, but a little looser and less focused than I remember. Tasty as always, but this bottle lacked verve and acidity. (2704 views)
Tasted by Morrisson on 12/6/2015: Très explosif à l'ouverture. Le vin est d'une belle complexité et fait preuve de beaucoup de fraîcheur malgré son âge. Définitivement des notes de miel et d'agrumes. (2599 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/15/2015: Yellow. Classic pear nose. Drier than I recall it tasting early on. Wonderful texture and back end soil. Mature at this point. (3236 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 7/13/2015: Fresh tasting with the flavor of pear and grapefruit pith. A little honey but it is not what I would consider a sweet tasting wine. A delightful Chenin Blanc and soooo much better than the 2005 Foreau that I opened a few days ago. (2957 views)
Tasted by BradKNYC on 7/11/2015 flawed bottle: A wonderful evening of Chenin. (Chez Kravitz- Old Saybrook): Corked. A bottle I had a couple of months ago showed beautifully, though expressed the vintage's ripeness with slightly elevated alcohol and softer than usual acidity. (4434 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 7/11/2015 flawed bottle: Chenin Blancs @ the Kravitz (Old Saybrook): Seemed to have a bit of cork taint when first opened, but not quite sure. After a few minutes, it got worse. No mistakes about it. Darn! (3381 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 6/21/2015: I was nervous about opening this after a previous note mentioned that the bottle didn't show well. However, this was excellent. We opened this last night, double decanted, had a glass, and left it for tonight.

Last night, this showed fantastic complexity on the nose: tropical fruits, a hint of sherr....and lots of fantastic chalky minerality on the palate, with great body and good acidic spine to back things up. A very long finish. This didn't really taste demi-sec, closer to just sec.

Today, even better. I can't begin to describe the nose: it just keeps changing as we sit with it. Hints of mango, chalk, sea salt, slate, lime. On the palate, this is much fuller bodied than I remember it from last night. Still great acidic spine, and mouthfilling pineapple and chalk on the palate. Great, long finish. After the Robert Fleury Extra Brut champagne, you definitely see this is demi-sec, but the sweetness is just a perfect complement to everything else.

On the nose, this is everything that Joly Savennierres that we had a few months ago was not. This was a head-turner. We paired this with a mango-jalapeno-tuna-tartare and then scallops with summer tomatoes and lemon-pepper pappardelle. Went wonderfully with everything. (3280 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 6/7/2015: Nice, and it disappeared pretty quickly. But it wasn't a great showing. Not sure now is a great time to open these. (2896 views)
Tasted by winot on 4/21/2015 & rated 92 points: Hard to say, this is still very youthful. Everyone loved it for its youthful vivacity and balance, but this has a ways to go before it really starts to shine. It does seem sweeter to me than other good vintages at a similar stage, so I'm hoping that time will address that. (2825 views)
 Tasted by GAET on 4/4/2015 & rated 93 points: Sucre résiduel : 17.6 g, acidité 4.3 g et 13.5°

(2678 views)
Tasted by JeffGMorris on 12/24/2014 & rated 91 points: Lobster night at home. I wanted to check in on this still young Huet. Full of lanolin, beeswax and some quinine. Great purity of fruit and the depth of the 2005 vintage is clear here as it still needs time to unwind. Nice today but much more potential. 50+13+12+8+8=91+(+?) (3029 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/20/2014: Yellow. Underripe pineapple. Textural but seems a bit lighter than usual for this cuvee. Off dry. Slightly crystallized tropical fruit is joined by a twist of citrus, and a ton of earth that I associate with Clos du Bourg carries through to the end. Excellent sugar/acid balance in this bottle. I've had this a few times this year. Whereas last time, I did not find a lot of structure, tonight was very different. Just a dream Demi-Sec in terms of balance. (3053 views)

Tasted by m_arcon on 9/13/2014 & rated 92 points: Huet tasting Sec, Demi-Sec and Moelleux from different vintages (Andis Home): Colour: Light yellow
Nose: Firstly again this very conspicuous mix of confectioner's sugar mixed with vanillin. Then more orange & lemon aromas than in the Sec. Also pear and kumquat.
Palate: The higher sugar level is good for the wine. Give it a bit more roundness & brighter shoulders. Good acidity which keeps everything in balance. Again a nice spicy, ginger note on the mid-palate. Medium+ body. Medium finish. (3469 views)
Tasted by MC on 8/3/2014: Really pleasant Vouvray that is perfectly ready to go and holds up well before, during, and after dinner. Light to medium body, with a touch of sweetness but an elegant profile, this is a lot of fun to drink in the summer. A- (3093 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/26/2014: Seattle Dinners with Old Friends; 7/25/2014-7/26/2014 (Ye Olde Pacific Northwest): Yellow. Fresh aromas of pear. Medium weight, off dry pear and apple fruit. Very good, but not as much grip and terroir as the best vintages of Clos du Bourg can have. (3167 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/3/2014: Oh my, what a beautiful place this wine is in now. Light tulip color. Quintessential Chenin nose of pear, honey, spice, and a tad of mint for even greater interest. Medium weight, completely seamless and integrated, a little sugar balanced by adequate acidity. Tremendous length and that lovely Clos du Bourg soil on the finish. Considering aging potential, one could quibble with the acidity not being higher, but no argument with the statement that it is disarmingly delicious at present. Probably time to start tucking in if you have significant stock. (3098 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 3/27/2014 & rated 91 points: White Frenchies at Sea Change (Sea Change at the Guthrie, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. Slow to evolve in glass, initially rather reserved and non-descript (Craig mentioned a spoiled milk note), but it blossoms after 45 minutes to reveal a tropical character, nectarine, peach, passion fruit, and distinct minerality. The palate has marked viscosity, lemon oil, citrus zest, earthy, apricot, passion fruit, medium bodied, slate, medium finish. This is a wine that requires some time to emerge to full appreciate.  Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/11/2014: Medium yellow. Honey and pear with a bit of apple. Marvelous texture and balance. Off dry, unfolds beautifully in the glass. No rush to attack these, but damn, starting to drink really well. (3276 views)

Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/20/2013: Last tried a year ago. Continues to show more structure and lemony fruit along with some pear. Relatively dry Demi Sec. Textural and excellent with a good dose of terroir on the finish. (3583 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 5/3/2013: CT Texas V - North Dallas Forty and then some; 5/3/2013-5/5/2013 (McKinney, North Dallas, TX): I think this was shut down, it had a reductive note that just did not blow off, even after an hour in the glass. (4285 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 4/16/2013: It's been nearly 4 years since the last one, and, as expected, it's travelling a very fine path. Opened up at about the 45 minute mark with vibrant aromas and lively acids floating the not insignificant stone fruits and crushed rocks swirling all about. Likely to hit its peak in just a few more years and hold there for a decade, if not longer. Impressive, immensely pleasurable drop; get some if you can. recommended (3742 views)
Tasted by lolo66 on 2/9/2013: Drinking this with Japanese food side by side with a peay Viognier 2010. Both are vibrant and have a saline element behind the tart fruits. (3410 views)

Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/30/2012: Light tulip yellow. Bright citrus and musky florality. Magical weight, balanced between glycerine fleshiness yet a real sense of lightness. Off dry with marvelous combination of orange and pear. Deeply embedded at the back end is intense grapefruit pith (which brought Sancerre to mind) and a ton of soil. This somehow manages to achieve great balance despite lower acidity than years such as 2002 or 2010. Just delicious and it seemed tighter and better structured than it was when I last tried it about 2 years ago. I certainly hope this is true since I have a lot of this left to drink through!  Tasted by wineismylife on 7/11/2012 & rated 91 points: Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group - July 2012 (Caravelle, Richardson, TX): WIML91

Tasted non blind at a wine dinner. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about 90 minutes.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of kumquat, orange and camphor. Flavors of apricot, kumquat and minerals. Medium to bright acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. I'd likely hold. Still a baby and might be entering a shut down phase. (4365 views)
Tasted by coremill on 3/12/2012: A small glass with dessert. This was showing pretty shut down but there's a ton of underlying material here. Apple sauce, honey, and almonds on the nose, where you can smell the chenin wooliness. Structure dominates the palate, where there's currently a hole in the midlde, but the finish, while austere, is long and intense. This tastes drier than some secs I've had, and I think it just needs a long sleep, or a lot of air, to fully fill out. Come back in 10 years. (4090 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/27/2011 flawed bottle: Saturdays at One Annual Post Thanksgiving Chinese Food Glutonny Festival (First Chinese BBQ, Carrollton, Texas): WIMLNR

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose was very mildly corked. Palate was muted as a result (yes, I did take a small sip to make sure it was corked). Shame, normally a wonderful wine. Others disagreed with me it was corked. (4929 views)
Tasted by JeffGMorris on 9/23/2011 & rated 95 points: Steve & Barb's house. Light yellow and an interesting wine to drink right after the '07 Sec. The residual sugar and the power, depth and balance of the '05s makes all the difference here. '07 will never match '05 in my opinion. Medium bodied and already very layered for such a young Huet. The sugar/acid balance is spot on here. The layers and depth that this wine is starting to show is fascinating. It is a great Huet in the making and proof of my theory on '05 ZH and Huet both hiding so much in reserve upon release. A little sweetness on the finish but not much. The only question is the aging curve on this. Does it get any better? Does it hold like this for 50+ years? There is no doubt it will be a stunning wine for many decades to come. Another one where I'm happy I went long. 50+13+14+9+9=95(+?) (2203 views)
Tasted by celtic67 on 7/21/2011: ordered off the list at Boulevard in SF. beautiful nose of pear, lillies & seashells. on the palate, wildflower honey, green apples & minerals. slightly more full & rich than the sec. as with most Huets, the balance here is exemplary. tremendous. (4487 views)
Tasted by sommelier41 on 5/29/2011 & rated 94 points: Gorgeous bouquet, showing quince, grapefruit, and garden flowers. Lovely right now, although still very much in its infancy. Quince and ripe pink grapefruit dominate the palate, with accents of honey and wildflowers. I love the sugar level here, just enough to make you want more, and it dissipates along the mid, only to return on the finish as freshly squeezed oranges. Grapefruit and limestone complete the long finish. Excellent balance and bright acidity. (4872 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 3/26/2011 & rated 94 points: Very clean and pure wine with a citrus nose and citrus on the palate. Touch of sweetness and a nice finish. (4641 views)

Tasted by tantotinto on 1/31/2011 & rated 90 points: Tasted immediately after opening. Pale gold color. A complex nose of orange, mineral and spice. Rich and full-bodied. Citrus and honey are the predominant flavors but there is much more in this glass. The gentle sweetness is perfectly balanced by tart acidity. It has a long and succulent finish. (4581 views)

Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Light and delicate nose of honeysuckle, lychee and wet stones. Once again light and delicate flavors on the palate of honey, lililkoi and minerals. Medium acidity, light to medium body. Drink or hold. 90-92. (5607 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/7/2010: Loire Wines, Including '07 Joguet Chinons (Terroir Wine Merchant and San Francisco Wine Trading Company, San Francisco): Medium yellow color. Honey and pear. Positives-delicious fruit in an off dry style and a nice dose of soil on the finish. Negatives-acid is too low and the focus is just not there. Enjoyable at present, but this will not take its place in the temple of great Huets. (5515 views)
Tasted by sommelier41 on 7/25/2010 & rated 95 points: Fresh and vibrant bouquet of honeydew, lavender, lilac, and honeysuckle. Sweet melon, grapefruit and oranges full on palate; honeysuckle and white pepper delicately play on the mid. Tangy, spicy, mineral finish that hangs forever. Still very young. Brilliant! (4322 views)
Tasted by Roughl on 4/27/2010: Pretty, showing the ripeness of the vintage. All in balance. I'm not a big fan of this vintage as I prefer a more slender, acidic and bitter Chenin Blanc profile. (5362 views)

Tasted by Tim Heaton on 11/14/2009: pop n pour consumed over 3 nights. Fairly reticent nose on the first night and somewhat on the second night, too. This opened up to reveal several layers of fruit and minerality on the nose and palate. Ripe mango, persimmon, peach and wet stones follow through with superbly balanced layers of fruit and seriously focused acidity. This has the stuffing for 15+ years, and I'd recommend a hold at this point of at least 3-5 yrs. Approx $30, drink thru 2024 (5636 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 10/17/2009: Sacred Cow is released into the wild (Restaurant X, Oklahoma, OK): WIMLNR

Tasted October 17, 2009 at an offline.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of sulphur, light apricot notes, papaya and a dash of orange. Light flavors of apricot, orange and a bit of peach. Mediium to bright acidity, medium body. Seems a bit closed at the moment so no rating at this time. Continue to hold. (6446 views)
Tasted by spacewrangler on 8/25/2009 & rated 90 points: Perfumed wine featuring red apple skin and flavors, pear, honey and floral tones. Great match with a shrimp dish. Plenty of acidity yet this is nice and broad in the mouth. (5755 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 8/18/2009 & rated 92 points: Straw yellow color. Perfumed tropical fruit nose. Melon, apple and pear fruit on the palate. Well balanced with very nice complexity and elegance on the finish. I've had very bad luck with this wine. The first bottle was off and the second was corked. This outing has restored my faith in Huët. A beautiful wine. (5284 views)

Tasted by bevetroppo on 5/10/2009 & rated 89 points: Day after from memory, and not much of that to speak of. This came early in the evening and was served with some simply grilled shrimp that had been marinated in high quality EVO, lemon, and rosemary. It was an excellent match. The Clos du Bourg had a racy nose that I seem to recall had elements of ripe pear and lime zest but that's not reliable at this point. Out there on the edge of sweetness but with an appealingly off dry mineral-laced finish (I might be making this up, just can't be sure). A beautifully made wine from a dedicated practitioner of biodynamics (since 1990). Must have been a fruit day yesterday. (5039 views)

Tasted by jeff nowak on 2/10/2009 & rated 86 points: double blind. where is the acid? the RS comes off bloated, and while the undercurrent of flavors gave hopoe, this never developed into much. (4077 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 2/10/2009 & rated 88 points: Blind Night (Scott): Pale yellow color. Tastes of pear, melon and pineapple. Quite spicy. Nice mid palate length and depth but the finish is a bit fat and flabby. Could use more acidity. Full bodied with and oily texture. (4710 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 9/20/2008: 2005 and 2006 Huet (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Lighter yellow like the '05 Sec wines. Not giving much aromatically. A very different animal than the Le Mont Demi-Sec, this is lighter, racier, and more ethereal, with a distinct peachiness to the fruit. Its sense of weightlessness is more like a German Riesling, but it stealthily glides through your mouth and leaves a delicious, lingering finish. Terrific with outstanding potential. (4309 views)
Tasted by Terkel on 2/22/2008 & rated 92 points: Mixed wines (Terkels appartment): Golden yellow color. Aromas of peach sirup and flowers. Some sweetness is present on the palate, but an flowery elegance starts the taste, but a complex midpalate takes over. Long taste and a superb balance between the sweetness and the acidity. (4674 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 2/19/2008: OK, this is infanticide. But it's good anyhow, if a bit dominated by its sugar at this point. We drank this over three days: it's a big wine that never really sorted itself out. (4092 views)
Tasted by xwine on 2/17/2008: Stellar wine! Beautiful up-front white fruit (peaches), and terrific palate presence; rich, mouthfilling. Bracing acidity provides great balance to the slight sweetness, and gives the wine a sense of lightness, notwithstanding the richness. Top quality wine, with a long life ahead of it. (3860 views)
Tasted by JeffnCin on 10/13/2007: Color: straw, more golden-yellow than greenish tinged (not as “oolong”-tinged as some vouvrays).
Aroma: Very nice nose -- light peach, talcum powder, hint of grass and a light scent of clover.
Taste: a touch of honey on the tip of the tongue, something reminiscent of warm summer days, maybe warm melon or light peachiness.
Overall: Sweetens up as it warms – more citrus sharpness when its cold. I like the palate best at about cellar temp, I think, rather than at room or a chilled temperature. However, the nose came through at all temps. Superb. (3986 views)
Tasted by Brnshj22 on 5/7/2007 & rated 92 points: Extremely focused and with a razor sharp precision. This is five years too young but still very enjoyable. If you're planning on having it in the near future, give it lots of air time! Will be stellar!! (4056 views)
Tasted by JeffGMorris on 4/27/2007 & rated 92 points: Tasting with Noel Pinguet at Domaine Huet (Vouvray, France): Pale colored and with 17 g/l residual sugar this wine has a wonderful depth to it with great finesse. A delicate and filigreed wine, this was the first wine to remind me of the '05 Zind Humbrecht lineup in that there seems to be lots of power in reserve that will take this wine through a long and wonderful life. 50+12+13+8.5+8.5=92+ (5059 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 2/21/2007: Melon, lanolin, talcum, some citrus on nose. Nice weight on palate, with yellow and white fruits and gentle sweetness framed by bracing acidity. Minerality is hiding a bit under the fruit sweetness, though i get hints of it on the moderate finish. While lacking complexity at this stage, it's a very pretty wine with finesse and impeccable balance. (3914 views)
Tasted by PhDP on 1/20/2007: Robe très claire. (4028 views)
Tasted by Spencer on 1/9/2007 & rated 94 points: Open, and drinking beautifully right now, but should age gracefully. Very ripe, with just a slight note of honey, but impeccably balanced. Chalky stone, great acidity, asian pear, honeydew melon on the palate. Long, constantly evolving, finish. Fantastic young wine. (4056 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 10/31/2006 & rated 92 points: Beautiful. Ripe melon, pear, and lemon balm on the nose, with bright ehco of those flavors on the palate, also a pure rainwater type of sensation. full bodied, with a touch of honey at the finish. cellarworthy. (4079 views)
