Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/4/2017 & rated 89 points: BYO Blind Tasting and Dinner (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. I correctly thought it from Loire, but thought it much younger. Fresh tart apple with moderate weight and very good balance. Mineral textures were a real highlight here. Very good length, even if not necessarily very nuanced flavors. (1416 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 3/4/2017 & rated 92 points: Served blind. I was thinking Loire Chenin but was absolutely floored to learn that this was from 1988. Nothing in the wine's appearance, aromas or tastes would place it as a nearly 30-year old wine. The nose was quite fresh and lifted with minerality and fuzzy Chenin fruit. The palate was exuberant and zippy. Good mineral character. Persistent on the palate. Excellent. (964 views)
Tasted by BradKNYC on 11/29/2006: The theme was Chenin Blanc and Northern Rhone. (Applewood): Gunflint aromas with a hint of yellow citrus pith. Austere and acidic on the palate. There's not much here other then mineral with a touch of dry honey. It's alive, but tough to like. C+. (2849 views)

Savennières

Savennières is a small, relatively well-known Loire Valley region producing wines made from the chenin blanc grape.

They are not conventionally fruity, and benefit from extensive aging.

Savennieres often have smells like white truffles and animal notes, even when young. They can last for a tremendous amount of time, and some people mistake the evolved aromas after 10-20 years with oxidization, but I have yet to taste an oxidised chenin blanc, since the amount and type of acidity (many g/l and tartaric) preserve the fruit in a much more effective way than e.g. chardonnay.
