Community Tasting Notes (average 85 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 1/17/2011: Appereance is clear, medium and ruby.

The nose is clean, medium, and shows much fruit with a touch of unintegrated oak (I would guess chips).

Palate is would guess is slightly off-dry, medium acidity, I don't feel its alcohol so it holds it well. Body is medium, flavor intensity is medium as well. Flavor characteristics are fruit with some spice, spice is a bit stalky, length is short.

Quality fits its price, so quite good at $13. (2764 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 11/15/2010: really has an acidity that i would not associate with lodi and that draws me in. an ashen volcanic nature. polished, not too rich black fruits. nuance of grassy wild strawberry in the nose. (2944 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/5/2010: Soooo much better than last year. Fuller fruit, still has the 9 north chunky hand on the wood, but darn good for $10. (3011 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/15/2010: Better at least a half an hour open and a full glass gone. (3007 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/11/2010: Big shift this vintage -- doesn't display Napa as the appellation let alone even California. The back makes reference to Lodi and I am told its pure Lodi this year.

Holds the style of Nine North -- big, not sloppy, a bit chunky in its youth with the tannins being a touch higher than the fruit. But I kinda like this style. Seems like 9 North makes nice agers with cheaper fruit. So this fits my expectations of them.

But the wine -- has Zinfandel's blue and black fruit, doesn't have much spice. I would guess its got some chips or planks giving it cardomom and cedar note on the back. Very youthful right of the cork pull, needs a bit of time to broaden out.

I will report back. (3048 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
