Tasted by Xfactor on 10/15/2015 & rated 91 points: In stride, drink now. (2128 views)
Tasted by Naomi Oreskes on 8/29/2015 & rated 94 points: A fabulous wine. Great fruit, earth, finish. Wish I had more! (2274 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 8/28/2015 & rated 92 points: Another wonderful wine on "Pinot Friday's", which Paula and I usually grill some seafood (seared Ahi Tuna this time) and match it with a Pinot. This was really singing, with ripe fruit and a spicy nose that paired well with the food and was delicious sipping after dinner. Sad it was our last bottle. (2131 views)
Tasted by Guillaume T. on 8/3/2015 & rated 95 points: Farewell to this wonderful wine and winery. I hope the DuNahs enjoy their second retirement. They certainly earned it! I will miss their wine - I likely won't see its like again for a long while. (2195 views)
Tasted by schaden43 on 4/19/2015 & rated 90 points: Always a treat. Watch for broken corks. (2098 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 4/15/2015 & rated 94 points: We started to drink our case of 2008, and let this last bottle sit for a while. Medium garnet color. Very expressive nose of red fruit and spice. Terrifically balanced palate right out of the bottle, and got even better, smoother with some air. Long finish. Classic Russian River Pinot. These guys got it right while they were making this wine. (712 views)
Tasted by schaden43 on 11/20/2014 & rated 91 points: Last of the case. Goodbye to a good friend. (1052 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 8/14/2014 & rated 93 points: Second to last of the case. This wine has been consistently good over the past two years. We probably drank it up too quickly to to see a lot of the potential development, but it has improved with time. (1341 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 8/4/2014 & rated 91 points: Darker and more brooding than my first sampling. Really enjoyed it more this go around. (1293 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 6/28/2014 & rated 92 points: Ah Dunah! My last bottle of this lovely exemplar of Russian River Pinot Noir. Precious and luscious in every way. (1381 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 6/20/2014 & rated 91 points: Sweet cherry fruit but not over-the-top. Some nice minerals and flower petals, but still more Cali than Burg. Dark color starting to show a little at the rim. (1262 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 5/24/2014 & rated 93 points: Same notes as my November 26 posting. Really enjoyed this with Paula at the lake after being away for a couple of months due to crazy, hectic schedules for both of us. (1126 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 5/16/2014 & rated 91 points: Another excellent bottle. Plenty of dark cherry fruit, but this wine was far more than fruit. A very good balance of acidity but still plenty of smoothness. Hints of sweet Oak and notes of cream. (780 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 5/8/2014 & rated 92 points: DuNah rocks! Juicy, luscious, ripe, full, fascinating. (865 views)
Tasted by joe blum on 3/28/2014 & rated 90 points: drinking very well. nice nose and good berry taste (900 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 2/23/2014 & rated 90 points: Same experience as my October tasting - enjoyable mid-week drinking. Great QPR, very pleasant pinot but nothing wows you to merit higher rating. (950 views)
Tasted by thalver on 1/16/2014: Quite funky upon opening. Is this the same wine all the other tasting notes are on? Upon breathing, the funkiness did largely blow off to reveal a spicy, earthy, red-fruited taste profile....quite Burgundian in a CA sorta way. Nice balance and structure, lingering finish. 91-92 (1013 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 12/16/2013 & rated 90 points: Gets the cherry note for RRV spot on, albeit a bit darker than most. Dark, small cherries, nutmeg, and dry loam. I found the cherry note to be wonderful, but there was not terribly much complexity. Not too much change after 3+ hours. Between this low showing and some comments regarding longevity problems, concerned this bottling is on the back of the bell curve. 50/5/12/8/8/7 (1046 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 12/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Another nice bottle. Nice acidity with loads of cherry fruit. This bottle was a little more "grapey" than my last but still very nice. (955 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 11/29/2013 & rated 92 points: We're going to finish DuNah soonah than anticipated, because it's too good to wait. Enjoyed with Kate and Jan day after Thanksgiving. Tasting notes similar to previous. Outstanding Pinto Noir at an exceptional price. (1011 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 11/28/2013 & rated 93 points: This stuff is really good. (825 views)
Tasted by Drmarg on 11/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Sadly, after pouring 1.5 magnums of the '05 down the drain (corked), I quickly grabbed our '07 and decanted for 30 minutes. Still drinking well but recommend consuming this vintage quickly before it realizes the same fate as the '05. Over the years Dunah Pinots have been one of my go to favorites. The '07 is top notch with raspberry, earth and just a hint of spice framing what was a nicely balanced pinot. A real treat! (908 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 11/26/2013 & rated 93 points: Wow this wine was really hitting on all cylinders tonight. By that I mean it had an incredible nose that can be detected 3-4" above the rim (which is one of my scoring parameters). I got scorched earth, cranberries, Asian spices and nutmeg on the nose. Then there is the finish. This was a wine that held the bold flavors on the palate for a good 30-45 seconds. The tannins were firm yet not mouth drying which suggests this wine is at a nice plateau and can go for many more years.
This compared to some of the best Kosta Browne RRV wines I have consumed over the years (for 1/2 the price). Well done and looking forward to the last couple of bottles. (872 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 11/10/2013 & rated 90 points: Lovely slightly sour black cherries. Very smooth with a nice twinge of acidity. Long finish. Hints of sweet Oak. (879 views)
Tasted by pjb1955 on 11/9/2013: I have to say that the corks are breaking on all the bottles I have opened to date. The wine is has not been compromised. Let it open for at least an hour for the best results. (954 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
