Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 23 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by clutj on 3/5/2016 & rated 88 points: smooth, unremarkable (2435 views)
Tasted by chanote44 on 8/24/2014 & rated 92 points: Big, powerful Dry Creek Cab with a 40 second finish. This is still going strong and got better as it warmed in my glass. I envy those who still have bottles left in their cellars. (3277 views)
Tasted by Druidh on 10/21/2013 & rated 91 points: drank as part of a small vertical of 2004 thru 2008. 2007 was the clear winner. dark fruit, good tannin, great acid, great length of finish. Very earthy finish.

four of five people had this wine as their favorite. (3266 views)
Tasted by MMK73 on 6/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured with a roasted chicken dinner. Nice minerality and black fruit with a great long finish. Grippy tannins to begin and evolved nicely after an hour. Could use a 1-2 hour decant or another year in cellar. (4331 views)
Tasted by jmmcdonne on 8/12/2012 & rated 88 points: a little tannic - needs to sit in the cellar another year or two, but will be excellent later. (6023 views)
Tasted by John Tomaszewski on 3/5/2012 & rated 94 points: Beautiful garnet color when held to light. The legs show a certain viscosity making the anticipation of the texture delightful. Heavily tannic nose (needs to breathe) that immediately moves into the classic black currant of a Cab with just a slight touch of tobacco. Wonderful opening with just the right balance of ripe fruit and tannins. A classic example of Dry Creek terroir. The earth is balanced by some spice and the tannins are complimented with honeysuckle, and black cherry. Mid taste is a bit uneventful, but the finish is long with the residual notes of oak, loam, chalk (in a good way) and chocolat. (4596 views)
Tasted by R Miller on 1/27/2012 & rated 90 points: This is an essential Dry Creek Valley Cabernet at its best. (3864 views)
Tasted by gkjrs on 9/10/2011 & rated 91 points: Crowd pleaser (3788 views)
Tasted by R Miller on 3/31/2011 & rated 95 points: This is the essence of Dry Creek Valley. I call this Mike Brunson's pure and liquid Dry Creek Gold. Nervous that don't have enough in the cellar. (3419 views)
Tasted by waragi on 3/26/2011: Brought to birthday dinner at CP. Did not have any myself, however, the cab lover at the table said it was very good. (2968 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 10/17/2010 & rated 91 points: Aromatic cassis, earth, leather, leaves, with a touch of mint; beautiful richness with structure and balance; nice medium finish, but excellent balance and character. (1146 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
