| | Tasted by trellisdoor on 2/5/2016 & rated 89 points: Polished and well made, I was surprised that my beau and I finished this so quickly. It's not really my preferred style, as it's rich, velvety, and fruit-driven, but the glass doesn't lie. A nice bottle of wine that's ready now, as I don't think the structure will support the ripeness (but not over ripeness) of fruit. A nice example of Zin made well at an affordable release price. Mediu plus body with slightly sweet dark cherry fruit and notes of dark chocolate. Smooth and well balanced. Moderate finish with smooth tannins and a little spice on the back end. Not as big of a nose as I thought it would have, but solid feel on the palette without being over-jammy. The fruit is nice but doesn't incorporate the alcohol well. Balance is off here. Palate is far better than the nose, with ripe reds and a touch of black. No earth component whatsoever. The goopy oaky finish is annoying. I've had much better at half the price. Klinker Brick, Bedrock, Dashe, and any Ridge. (2735 views) |
