Tasted by petermpls on 8/21/2021: Agree with those that called this bright. Very fruit forward. If I had more, I would be inclined to give it a few more years to see if develops more complexity. (1305 views)
 Tasted by europat55 on 3/11/2021 & rated 91 points: 2009 Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Tasted Blind): Nose: 91-92. Palate: 90-91
My #4, Group's #1 (76 pts). Tasted blind (1604 views)
Tasted by davidspieker on 9/3/2020 & rated 91 points: Dark ruby color with signs of age. Ripe dark fruit and menthol aromas. Rich smokey dark fruit and meat flavors. Good acidity but a little hot. Wish I had more. (1623 views)
Tasted by lake.vino on 8/9/2020 & rated 94 points: Nose black raspberry and garrigue. Hints of cocoa nibs though less than in most 09 Rhône’s. Full rich ripe fruit consistent with warmth of vintage. Warm spice and floral notes of rose and violet. Palate very well balanced for vintage. Spice hints suggest barest notes of oak with remarkably bright fruit lifted by uncommon acidity. Amazing complexity and length. Not the plodding heavy and hot monsters that all too often come out of cdp. At a good place but no hurry to drink up. (1555 views)
Tasted by LARich on 3/19/2020 & rated 92 points: As good as it gets on a price/value range. Delicious and robust Grenache woth a youthfulness that was unexpected. Worth waiting to see how this develops (1817 views)
Tasted by bluepeter2020@outlook.com on 10/19/2019 & rated 91 points: ripe red fruit and garrigue aroma. Continues on the palate. Drinking well now with soft integrated tannins and still has a couple years of bottle life remaining. I really like this wine. It tastes like what I was hoping for before I popped the cork. (1147 views)
Tasted by jayw on 10/5/2019: Spicy ripe red fruit and garrigue. Nose much better than the palate. Good acidity with fully integrated tannins, but too sweet for my taste. I don't expect this to improve. (1048 views)
Tasted by jmcmchi on 7/6/2019 & rated 90 points: Restrained spice and red berries on nose

Tannins fully integrated, attractive juicy acidity emerges relatively slowly.

Throwing a gritty sediment, medium+ length

Tasted by wormfarmer on 9/16/2018 flawed bottle: Corked. You could get a sense of the fruit, but nose and entry were corkalicious. (1767 views)
Tasted by rogerr on 8/18/2018 & rated 92 points: Nice herbal aromatics. Fairly ripe but still balanced acidity. (1519 views)
Tasted by Lord Marc on 4/1/2018 & rated 90 points: This was very nice, full bodied with mild tannins. The fruit was balanced, you could taste the dark berries, and some hint of black cherries. I would definitely try it soon before it get past its prime. (1658 views)
Tasted by davidspieker on 5/31/2017 & rated 91 points: After an hour of air. Dark ruby color at or near peak. Dark fruit and menthol aromas. Smokey dark fruit elixir with olive and meaty flavors. Good acidity with a long finish. (2340 views)
Tasted by Ideasthatstick on 3/6/2016: This was an amazing bottle. Totally upper crust, I don't want to say mature because it is not yet, but it is at a tier of quality that should be noted. Clear clean flying Grenache with a structural grace note of Mourvèdre - a balance of focused fruit complemented by cutting acids and highly integrated tannins. Galevan produces wines across the spectrum that all share a common character. Thoughtful wine making, thoughtful grapes, thoughtful harvest. It's hard to provide specific tasting notes here, but I can say if you like good wine and are not myopic about varietals regions etc, this will amaze you. It is an underrated, fine fine wine that is singing now and seems to have some aging headroom (3693 views)
Tasted by Anthony Lombardi on 12/7/2015: 90% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre. Deep maroon core with a ruby rim. A classic Southern Rhone blend which never goes over the top in weight or concentration. The Mourvèdre addition adds structural elements to balance the rich red fruit on the palate. Full bodied & rich on the palate with just enough grip. Layers of raspberry & blackberry are met with a savory smokiness & cracked pepper.

The nuance here is met with the flowing counterpoint of sweet rich fruit & the savory dark elements on the back of the palate. Easy to enjoy. Quintessential CDP. (3563 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 2/17/2015 & rated 91 points: Delicious & very drinkable with bright red fruit (cherry, raspberry) over a bed of moderate tannins. Some graphite/stone compexity lurking in the late palate & finish. Good acidity. Very nice. (3934 views)
Tasted by Cosmo3 on 2/8/2015: Wow, a real blockbuster with just the right amount of restraint. Incredible density of herbs, fruits and acids that are well integrated and balanced. Drinking perfectly now but the tannins on the finish speak of a few more years left in this beauty, glad I have a few more left. (3800 views)
Tasted by Johnny C NYC on 7/22/2014 & rated 92 points: Big, satisfying taster. Typical CdP breadth. Comped well versus every wine we put it against. 50/5/13/16/8 (4036 views)
Tasted by Mezz on 7/14/2014 flawed bottle: This particular bottle was corked so not nearly as good as it could have been. (3079 views)
Tasted by sortiarius on 5/3/2013 & rated 91 points: Bouquet: Fruity, alcohol-tainted
Color: Dark purple/violet
Body: Full
Acids: Very high
Tannins: Medium-high
Balance: A bit too rich on the acid
Fruitiness: High
Finish: Medium, semi-complex
Overall: Seems a bit weak initially but grows complex with food. (4821 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 12/12/2012 & rated 92 points: 14.5% ABV. Dark garnet, nearly opaque in the glass. Classy CdP aromas of black berry, black cherry, and garrigue. Medium-full bodied with great texture. Fairly open knit and delicious now. Enjoyed this. (5944 views)
Tasted by mkewildebeast on 10/28/2012 & rated 92 points: Initial dark fruits give way to herbs and a nice smooth, balanced finish. This is bargain of a wine that I am sure would show up wellin a double blind with wines twice it's price. Pnp with a beef burgundy. Have another half case that I planned to save for a decade but I am not sure it will make it. Drinks well now and may get a bit better but not showing the harshness I was expecting. (5858 views)
Tasted by ihavezinned on 10/20/2012 & rated 90 points: nose: cherry, licorice, eucalyptus
palate: red fruit, eucalyptus, fig
very nice (4859 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 4/28/2012 & rated 91 points: 2012 Hospice du Rhone Grand Tastings; 4/27/2012-4/28/2012 (Hospice du Rhone, Paso Robles, California): Very dark red violet color; rich, tart black fruit, herbs, garrigue nose; tart black fruit, herbs, garrigue palate; needs 3 years; medium-plus finish 91+ points (5185 views)
Tasted by drusa17 on 4/13/2012 & rated 91 points: Decanted for an hour before drinking. Opened up over 3-4 hours. Concentrated cherry and berry, some herbs, earthy but not barnyardy (until a whiff of old sock came through toward the end). smooth but present fine tannins, not too sweet, fine acidity, a tad hot at 14.5%, great with roast lamb shoulder. (5623 views)
Tasted by MayValley on 3/16/2012 & rated 90 points: Very interesting and rather atypical CdP. Very herbal cent (almost cab franc'ish), along with some gunpowder and dark fruit.
On the palate the wine is medium boddied and elegant, with smooth red fruit a little spice and a good amount of acidity. Not a wine made to age for many dacades, but a very nice wine at this point. (3306 views)

(GALEVAN Chateauneuf) Chateauneuf Dear Friends, I'm not going to say much about the wines below as they were very hard to come by - this parcel was like pulling teeth to procure. Domaine Galevan will be a new pilgrimage for most of you and their 2009 CdP entrance on our shores is a memorable one indeed. This is an estate to keep a close eye on as they are set to ascend to a level held by the most respected in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Galevan reminds me of Marcoux 20 years ago with a similar injection of feminine sensibility and bargain prices for the level they are playing in. I'm not sure if you’ve noticed but I’ve presented a majority of woman-owned and operated properties of late as they deserve far more attention in the wine-world. Even in year 2010, many continue to have a strike against them in a male-dominated industry that seems to consider many of these properties a dalliance rather than a serious venture. That is ridiculous as most of the affable and creative woman winemakers we present to you are at the very head of their class – regardless of gender. Let’s prove the nay-sayers wrong by giving Coralie Goumarre our undue support – her wine deserves it. This parcel is directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance. Both wines are VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the style: 2009 Domaine Galévan Chateauneuf du Pape - (WA91-93+) 2009 Domaine Galevan Chateauneuf du Pape “St Georges” - (WA92-94) (This wine is better than many of the top-rated $75+ wines from 2007 – if you like the carnival style of 2007, this will find much to admire here – JR) Please give us your maximum number up to 12/each wine and we will allocate accordingly To order: niki@garagistewine.com This parcel is set to depart the cave – it will arrive in February (please check OARS for local pick up after Feb 15th). It will ship during the Spring shipping season. Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure. For current local pick up and arrival/ship information, please see your OARS link below (at the bottom of this offer) - don’t know how to access your OARS? Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
