Tasted by JuliannaDHS on 4/22/2023 & rated 92 points: This was openend about half an hour before trying. Dark, deep nose with lots of fruit. Dark and red fruit, oak, hint of spices. Excellent texture and length on the finish. Great with dinner but this would make an enjoyable late night sipper. (806 views)
Tasted by markcic on 2/6/2023 & rated 92 points: Have not tried a bottle in almost two years and it is still drinking nicely. I opened and allowed to slow ox for around 2 hours then we poured through a vintorio. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate is dark berries, coffee, currants a touch of leather and a hint of sage. The finish was moderate to long. (1069 views)

Tasted by markcic on 4/13/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully just like the bottle I had 3 months ago. I opened and allowed to slow ox for around 3 hours then we poured through a vintorio. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate is dark berries, coffee, currants a touch of leather and a hint of sage. The finish was moderate to long. It accompanied a roasted rack of lamb that we had for dinner. (1459 views)
Tasted by Sheff528 on 1/29/2021 & rated 85 points: Waited too long to drink this.... (1456 views)
Tasted by markcic on 1/13/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully just like the bottle I had 6 months ago. I opened and decanted half the bottle and allowed the remainder to slow ox. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate is dark berries, coffee, currants a touch of leather and a hint of sage. The finish was moderate to long. (1299 views)

Tasted by markcic on 7/13/2020 & rated 92 points: This is a really good wine and in my opinion in its perfect drinking window. I opened the wine about an hour and a half before dinner. The nose was dark berries and expresso. The palate was dark berries, leather, expresso and graphite which led into a long finish. (1626 views)
Tasted by brasstab on 6/7/2020 & rated 93 points: Well-aged, without showing too much age. Leather, tobacco, cedar and plush, balanced tannins. Great with a Santa Maria tri-tip on a Sunday evening. (1654 views)
Tasted by Joshbturner on 3/29/2020 & rated 91 points: My first thoughts upon pnp were “rich and powerful.” This is something any big cab lover would like. Very smooth but rich. You would expect the power at 15% alcohol, but it was not too much. Bought from spectrum. Drank the entire bottle in one evening on zoom w friends.

Definitely a great wine. I did not find it to be exceptional, however. Possibly this is just a bit past its peak but I may be wrong. (1653 views)
Tasted by Wine Guy Extraordinaire on 1/8/2020 & rated 96 points: Smooth tannins, rich flavor. Drank exceptional. (1844 views)
Tasted by B&PBaker on 5/11/2019 & rated 89 points: Nice nose and fruit. Just a little tannic. (2531 views)
Tasted by cstir on 12/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Drinking week; great nose; well-balanced with good depth of flavor, good finish (2674 views)
Tasted by wconnolly on 5/27/2018 & rated 90 points: Isosceles always takes a while to come into its own and this is no exception. Bright cherry, blackberry, clove and pepper on the palate. This was better balanced than my last bottle with better integrated tannins. Very nice. (3798 views)
Tasted by JCaress on 5/9/2018 & rated 88 points: Average fruit, quite a bit of tannin. A bit heavy but still drinkable. (3602 views)
Tasted by amc on 4/1/2018 & rated 90 points: This was pleasantly balanced, somewhat jammy fruit, lacked structure that I prefer. Still a well-made wine and definitely in it's drinking window. Drink now. (3374 views)
Tasted by StainedGlass on 3/7/2018 & rated 92 points: Cellar stored at 55 degress from release and still going strong. The fruit is still ripe and rich but less jammy and less over the top than it was shen younger. Red currants, blackberry and plum. Nice structure and a pleasant finish. I have enjoyed 2008 vintage of Isosceles more with age, and it's in a good place now. (2957 views)
Tasted by Pbuschur on 12/27/2017 & rated 94 points: Drank with dinner and everyone loved it. Can’t imagine it getting any better than it is right now. (2928 views)
Tasted by Boardwalk on 11/23/2017 & rated 92 points: Enjoy now, at its peak. Forward; you won't miss it in any sensory way. This has to be your style. (2398 views)
Tasted by Deryl on 10/12/2017 & rated 92 points: This has aged beautifully. Drinking well now. (2721 views)
Tasted by RayT on 7/31/2017 & rated 93 points: Dark ruby in color with a beautiful nose of raspberry, vanilla, and coffee. Tried on the pop and pour with a palate of mostly red fruit with black currant and a strong smoky tobacco flavor. After a 2 hour decant this was much more in harmony. The strong smoky component resided and was replaced by spice box and cranberry on the finish. This wine had soft tannins and a medium long finish.

This was my last bottle of the 2008 and was enjoyed by all. A classic Bordeaux blend that was drinking really well. I definitely recommend a 2-3 hour decant for this wine to fully come together. 92+ (3642 views)

2008 Justin Vineyards & Winery Isosceles

From JJ Buckley:
"...Silky textured finish. Hazelnut and fruit on the finish. Harmonious wine."
—James Suckling

Made from 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and a touch of Petit Verdot, Isosceles is one of the California Central Coast's most iconic reds. It has a long track record of high scores - the 1997 release was ranked number #6 in the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines. And this ’08 just hit 94 Points with James Suckling, the longtime Bordeaux critic for the Wine Spectator who now directs his own, highly-acclaimed website.

Justin is one of the most established wineries south of Napa, and 20+ years of experience has guided the Justin team to the top vineyard sites, and super low yields. They've spared no expense on production equipment and new French oak barrels. By design, Isosceles can be enjoyed now or cellared for 10-15 years for future enjoyment.

Paso Robles is one of the fastest growing wine regions in the U.S., especially in terms of quality. Wineries like Saxum, Tablas Creek, and Justin have propelled the area to international recognition. It’s all about the terroir - the limestone soils on the famous West Side of Paso Robles, where the region's highest rated wines come from. And Justin's Isosceles is one of the best.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
