Tasted by HenryAUnger on 5/14/2018 & rated 95 points: The wine was what an aged Cabernet should be. Smooth, plenty of fruit. Minimal tannins. (1547 views)
Tasted by Spartan517 on 4/30/2017 & rated 90 points: Still delicious.. but past prime. Still thick, rich, and dark, but not what it used to be. Glad it's my last bottle. (1954 views)

Tasted by edog77 on 7/15/2013 & rated 91 points: Gift from my mom's cellar. Alcohol, candied cherries, vanilla, applecore on nose. Color of deep dark amber red rimmed. Palate of cherries, rasberries, prunes, with vanilla, alcohol heat on the finish. Probably lost some prime but still drinking well. (3731 views)
Tasted by mygrogro on 6/14/2011 & rated 91 points: love this wine!

Tasted by markellen.foodies@gmail.com on 2/8/2010: FRENCH BAKERY 1997 NAPA vs TUSCANY BYO Dinner; 2/8/2010-2/9/2010 (The French Bakery, 1023 Kane Concourse, Bay Harbor Islands, Florida): Richard's wine (4676 views)
Tasted by jrekent on 1/16/2010 & rated 83 points: On the positive side, the wine *looked* fresh and youthful -- medium purple. And what fruit it had was tasty, berries and tar and a hint of bottle complexity. But there sure wasn't much fruit, and what there was got beaten down by the still-present wood. Very light feel in the mouth, short finish, drying on the palate. Improper storage (I recently purchased the wine)? At any rate, this sure didn't taste like what others' notes would indicate. (3242 views)
Tasted by winelovr2001 on 3/16/2008 & rated 92 points: Beautifully balanced cabernet, at its peak now. Tannins have softened quite a bit. Cherry, rose petal and leather on the nose, with cherry, raspberry, and tobacco on the palate (2762 views)
Tasted by jeeps78 on 11/24/2007 & rated 93 points: Definately in its prime. Well integrated and loads of fruit. A pleasure to drink. (2815 views)
Tasted by beaunehead on 2/16/2006 & rated 95 points: Wow - I've been a Hanna fan for a few years now, but this baby moved me to a whole new level. Drinking perfectly now, with just the right balance of primary fruit still showing, supported by secondary spice, vanilla and coca butter flavors. Still dense, but silky smooth - the proverbial baby's bottom - with tannins fully evolved, acids in check, and a long, true to the fruit, finish. Just wonderful. From the evolution, I'd advise savoring this over the next couple of years rather than longer. Considering how pricey many of the '97s were, this was a real steal; wish I'd bought a few more! (3206 views)
Tasted by tobinw on 12/10/2005 & rated 94 points: Wonderful wine , had aged nicely. Smooth drinking that improved over course of dinner. Black cherry, blackberries, hints of vanilla, with mellowed tannins to top off the after taste. Had with a tri-tip dinner. Perfect compliment. Too bad it was my last bottle. (3263 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 9/5/2005: large scaled with a big nose of red berries and red currants with a whiff of alcohol and a tiny whiff of tea. Sweet, concentrated, open-knit. Slightly turning towards tired, so I deem this at or slightly past peak drinking. (2179 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 2/1/2001: ($30) Tremendously big Cabernet. Huge Blueberry liqueur nose. Lots of alcohol but it hides readily in the fruit. Great length and concentration. Turley-like Cabernet. Delicious. $30 (2189 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma County

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
