Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. Terrasse du Diable67 DOMAINE LES PALLIÈRES Gigondas Terrasse du Diable 2007 92 $28 France In 1998, American wine importer Kermit Lynch and the Brunier family of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe bought and restored this estate, where they employ traditional winemaking methods. In 2007, they bottled two separate cuvées to distinguish their low- and high-altitude vineyards. The Grenache-based Terrasse du Diable, sourced from stony, northwest-facing vineyards located above 800 feet, is the more elegant, minerally wine of the two. Five percent each of Mourvèdre and Clairette are added for greater complexity. 3,830 cases made. From WS 1.10.2010.
