Tasted by gvergolias on 1/15/2010 & rated 88 points: Surprisingly nice. Strawberry, black olive, touch of twigs and pepper. Fairly well balanced, a bit harsh on the finish but it complements the roast I had with itquite nicely. (2470 views)
Tasted by Cunningham on 7/20/2009: 4.5/5 Stars (2888 views)
Tasted by mike l. on 1/23/2009 & rated 60 points: dreadful watery bitter crap. was 3.99 at grocery outlet. wouldnt be worth 39 cents. (4070 views)
Tasted by pgm on 10/28/2008 & rated 88 points: Interesting: strawberry and raspberry with green olive, pepper, and sticks. Simultaneously a little thin, but meaty in profile. Nothing profound here, but it's provocative and unique. (2644 views)
Tasted by Winezak on 8/26/2008 & rated 81 points: Did not like it, if fact I poured the last third of a bottle away (2840 views)
Tasted by neurovino on 6/3/2008 flawed bottle: Corked. (1601 views)
Tasted by d'Yquembe Mutombo on 5/5/2008 & rated 87 points: A very enjoyable and well-structured Rhone blend. Nice rustic undertones and good tannin structure. Poor QPR at $20 though, almost a carbon copy of the $13 Guigal CdR which I would buy over this wine. (1825 views)
Tasted by LeifErik on 4/24/2008 & rated 87 points: This is an interesting wine being a Non Vintage blend with a release year. Released in 2004, I'm unaware of the blended vintages, but it's already showing the brickish rose color of maturity. On the nose I'm struck first with notes of peppered tangerines and rose petals, then there is an elusive and yet still obvious aroma of sardines dipped in cocoa-soy sauce. Fruits of cassis, charred blackberry bush, and grape soda begin to emerge soon after, all followed by aromas of young cedar plank. In the mouth there is an upfront obvious plummy fruit flavor. The tannins are firm but not aggressive, quite soft really, focusing at first on the mid palate, but with time the oak tannins emerge on the gums. The acid structure is soft and subtle but elongated nicely through really high toned fruit flavors of ranier cherry and citrus zest. This all finishes with a lovely cumin rose finsih. There is no overwhelming minerality here, or persistent typical fruit profiles, but definitely a persistent rose theme, which is of course quite characterisitic of grenache from this area (assuming that of course there is substantial grenache sourced from Rhone territories). The oak influence is a little strong considering the lack of fruit to counter balance it all, and it will probably be a bit light for some, which I don't mind. It is definitely not an extracted wine. However, still a nice wine, and the price is really affordable. It's quite unique and fun to experience a wine of these varietals (grenache/syrah/carignan) that seems as close to maturity right away as this one -- a clever NV blend. (1807 views)
Tasted by zblang on 1/20/2008 & rated 80 points: Not my cup of tea at all. (2012 views)
Tasted by ncmussell on 3/13/2007 & rated 84 points: Light ruby color, very little nose right out of the bottle, did develop a little nose of floral and pepper. Definitely a light wine, with not real pronounced fruit. Left some for tomorrow to see what happens with some air. Really think this would be a good summer wine given its lightness and an excellent compliment to something like a steak salad. Probably wont buy the Lot 2004 again. (2046 views)
Tasted by DenisLee on 3/6/2007 & rated 84 points: light, but not unpleasant. (2244 views)
Tasted by espia on 2/7/2007: Not bad (1470 views)
Tasted by DeWiPe on 1/6/2007 & rated 85 points: My experience was like most other descriptions here - lighter in style than expected, needed air time to open up sufficiently, fair to good but much better QPR can be had elsewhere. (2532 views)
Tasted by paulyp on 1/6/2007 & rated 85 points: Pretty tame. The fruit on the palate was pronounced and pleasant but fell off very quickly. (2383 views)
Tasted by Littlehope on 10/21/2006 & rated 86 points: I enjoyed this, but first impressions were of a ligher than expected Rhone blend, but this improved with time after decanting. However there are cheaper CdR out there which are better. (2399 views)
Tasted by Cahill on 10/15/2006 & rated 85 points: I thought that this wine was well made, but with merely adequate fruit. Flavors are just not up to par for the price. (2576 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 10/8/2006 & rated 82 points: Nothing special. Average flavors. RP says lot 2004 is from the 02 vintage, and I believe it. I'll wait for lot 2005. (2845 views)
Tasted by GraemeBell on 8/27/2006 & rated 85 points: Obviously Rhone, and leans more towards South. Easy-drinking. rich and kind of sweet on the attack, quite fruity and light thin finish. Quite good value. (2597 views)
Tasted by Frodnesor on 7/25/2006 & rated 87 points: Somewhat light ruby color. Rich nose of black cherry with a hint of spice. Nice mouth feel, both sweet and tart and a light finish. (2740 views)
Tasted by rumpole on 5/20/2006 & rated 84 points: Not bad, easy rhone. However, not complex or memorable. (2833 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
