Tasted by easttide on 11/5/2023 & rated 93 points: Needs strong salty food like a ribeye to make it sing, which it does. No signs of fading as mentioned. If I had more I'd try in 5 years. (1245 views)
Tasted by OaktownRush on 10/7/2023: Some minerality, subtle fennel, spearmint and tar. I thought this bottle had some interesting stuff going on but felt it was a bit tired in general. Probably time to drink the other bottles I have. (1040 views)
Tasted by devraj on 9/29/2023 & rated 93 points: Magenta turning to dark orange around the rim. Expressive and alluring perfume of Chinese five spice, mint, dried dark cherries and orange rind. Palate shows silky and sweet dark red berries, hint of savory brown spice, medium acidity, gentle tannins and a long perfumed finish. This has really come together. (1099 views)
Tasted by t0pshelf on 6/26/2023: Third & final bottle, no oxidation here like there was in bottle #2, however it's lost almost all of its tannic structure. Drink now! (1377 views)
(1482 views)
Tasted by StewartWent on 12/18/2022 & rated 88 points: Warm year. Fruits are a bit hard and generic, some heat. More typical back end, fine tannin, floral fruits. Needed to see more. (1645 views)
Tasted by Vandelaar on 12/11/2022 & rated 92 points: Drank through a case and this 5th bottle is the best yet! I found the wine to modernistic in its first decade and two years back I was quite pessimistic about this friend's future but boy was I wrong.

Tertiary stage is there and the wine cooled down, got lighter on its feet and got a lot more sophisticated. Beatiful nose where small red fruits have appeared combined with a dry autumn forest and dried flowers.

the palate shows some darker fruits, a bit dried. prunes & raisins. a drying leather impression, old dark tea, earth and a (for a red) awkward (wal)nutty note. A good acidic structure keeps it light and 14,5% is nowhere to be found.

I am finding out that my preference lies in the more aged Nebbiolo's and red in general. With Produ's you just have to be patient ;-) (1512 views)
Tasted by devraj on 11/12/2022 & rated 91 points: Reddish brick in color. Gentle aromas of dark red berries, baking spice, dark red florals and hint of dried earth. Palate shows sweet and sour red fruits, anise, good acidity, firm tannins on a medium finish. This has been the best showing of this wine from my cellar. (1659 views)
Tasted by ttholst on 10/6/2022 & rated 87 points: En time i karaffel. (1649 views)
Tasted by Sonoffalstaff on 8/7/2022: Leave it for 3-5 years before making a proper judgment . I think it could be special but needs more time (1699 views)
Tasted by chefdilletante on 7/27/2022: A little lean and drying but comes to life with food. Not complex or profound; a bit stingy so adjust expectations. Recommend hearty protein. Heavy sediment; advise decanting. (1350 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 6/18/2022 & rated 91 points: Savory profile accented by faded dark cherry fruit. Lots of sandalwood, earth, minerals, iron, and tar on the finish. Tannin is nicely integrated. Mature, drink now -2024, seems like fruit could oxidize if you hold too long. (1540 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/22/2022: Slightly more dirty than I would prefer, but that's Barbaresco. Also slightly more advanced than I would prefer. (2161 views)
Tasted by jpp10780 on 3/20/2022 & rated 90 points: Textbook Produttori. Nebbiolo cherries, some remaining lip smacking tannins but mostly resolved at this stage. Not entirely adding anything with 13 years of age which was slightly disappointing but the fruit is still there and it's an enjoyable glass of wine on Sunday evening in New York City. (1690 views)
Tasted by King Cab on 1/23/2022 & rated 92 points: In such a great spot. Pretty nose of fragrant spring flowers and red cherry. Deeply layered palate that has dried red cherries and a touch of cardamom. As it sits you start to get some notes of soy sauce and earthiness. Great length and finish and just seems to glide across your tonque. This has spectacular balance and verve, even at 12.5 years old. Well stored and it shows. This has always been a favorite of my family and I grab them whenever I see them. (2257 views)
Tasted by olracx62 on 12/25/2021 & rated 91 points: at the eye, ruddy purple coloring; at the nose, showed purple flowers and cherry notes with some earthiness. At the palate showed cherry, mushroom, earth, wood and some spice, coupled with leather and underbrush. Not as round as expected, masculine, bold, typically a food wine with still some years ahead to get some more gentleness (1831 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 12/12/2021: Popped and poured and this was great with Italian take in. Floral perfume on the nose, cherry fruit on the palate, and a silky texture with fine tannin. Great showing and I wish I had more but unfortunately this was my last bottle. These will drink well for another 10 years easily. (1959 views)
Tasted by bethel31 on 12/1/2021 & rated 90 points: Decanted. Drinking already and tannins resolved. Dried cherry, soft mouthfeel with a bit of metal taste. (1901 views)
Tasted by Iam Redwood on 11/14/2021 & rated 93 points: Wow, classic nebbiolo and in a great spot. Cherry, leather. Elegant (1589 views)
Tasted by bordeauxman777 on 9/20/2021 & rated 90 points: Seems muted today, but it still vibrant and quite young. A legend in making? Lovely (1963 views)
Tasted by btock on 9/16/2021 & rated 90 points: Brought this to a very enjoyable patio Italian dinner. We hit all the B's during the evening, and this one was up first. Served against a simple but excellent cacio e pepe bucatini. Dusty tannins, dark garnet, ruddy purple coloring. Aromatics were very nice, some sauavge and dried herb notes. Lighter weight than I expected on the palate. This was in a nice spot and a great food wine. (1558 views)
Tasted by I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine on 9/16/2021 & rated 90 points: Luis Italian Wine Tasting at Broder's: Double decant for one hour - Very nice wine, especially for a Nebbiolo. This offers a great qtr, especially if you bought during release, but even at the WS price (currently $87). Noce showed purple flowers and cherry notes with some earthiness. Palate showed cherry, anise, mushroom, earth, wood and spice...it was a very nice wine and definitely a compliment to food! I am not a big Nebbiolo fan, but this one showed quite well! In a good drinking window now with a decant, but definitely has a lot of life left in it. 90 points and an excellent QPR! (2151 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 9/16/2021 & rated 91 points: Italian wines on Broders patio (Broders Patio): Double decanted for an hour. Yes, it's big like you expect from barbaresco, also fairly well-integrated. Woodsy, mushroom, leather, violets. (1703 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 9/16/2021 & rated 91 points: Italians at Broder's (Broder's Pasta Bar, Minneapolis): Medium dark red color. Double decanted for an hour. Drank a glass over an hour. Lovely nose with leather, baked cherry, dried spice, hints of anise. The palate is medium bodied plus, deep red fruits, dark cherry, black licorice, savory and well spiced. (1740 views)
Tasted by Javachip on 8/28/2021 & rated 95 points: San Diego Superspeader 2021 (Solare Restaurant, Liberty Station, Point Loma, San Diego CA): 14.5 % alc. Decanted. Clear medium ruby color. Beautiful wine with notes of sour red cherries and raspberries; violets, leather, tar, orange pekoe black tea. Bright and fresh, pleasant acidity and tannic grip, ideal with fresh truffles. Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

Producer
Prior to 1894, Nebbiolo grapes were sold to make Barolo wine or simply labeled ”Nebbiolo di Barbaresco”. But in 1894, Domizio Cavazza, headmaster of the Royal Enological School of Alba and a Barbaresco resident, created the first cooperative, the ”Cantine Sociali”, by gathering together nine Barbaresco vineyard owners to make wine in the local castle that he owned. Cavazza understood that there were differences between Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Barolo district versus the same grapes grown in the Barbaresco district and, for the first time, recognized it on the wine label. The ”Cantine Sociali” was forced to close in the 1920’S because of fascist economic rules. In 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco, recognizing that the only way the small properties could survive was by joining their efforts, gathered together nineteen small growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco. The first three vintages were made in the church basement, and then in the winery built across the square from where the Produttori is still located. United once again, the small growers continued the work started by Domizio Cavazza, producing only Barbaresco wine and enhancing both the reputation of the wine and the village. The proud past of Barbaresco and the dedication of its creators have made the Produttori one of the greatest producers in a great wine-producing area; it... ”continues to set some of the highest standards of wine making for any cooperative in the world”. (Robert M. Parker, Jr.; The Wine Advocate, 2-28-90). The Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, now has 56 members and 100 hectares (250 acres) of Nebbiolo vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation, which amounts to almost 1/6 of the vineyards of the area. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. The winery produces a Barbaresco D.O.C.G., a blend of Nebbiolo grapes harvested from different vineyards, and a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. In great vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced from nine classic premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries: Asili, Rabaja, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Paje, Montefico, Moccagatta and Rio Sordo. These are the geographical names of sites where Nebbiolo grapes have always been cultivated. The names of the single-vineyards, the total number of bottles produced, and the name of the owners of the vineyards are marked on the labels. The Produttori del Barbaresco, which vinifies only Nebbiolo grapes, produces around 420,000 bottles (35,000 cases) per year. In a good vintage they are divided among Barbaresco (40%), single vineyard Barbarescos (40%) and Nebbiolo Langhe (20%). Produttori del Barbaresco s.a.c.

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
