Tasted by Vince_chip on 4/2/2022 & rated 93 points: Excellent!
(701 views)
Tasted by Millennial Drinkers on 10/29/2020 & rated 91 points: Dark ruby red. Dark cocoa on the nose with black cherries, mocha, minerality and some chalkiness. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium body. Well rounded palate with dark cherries, dark gravel and chocolate. Long finish. Drink till 2025. (973 views)
(690 views)
Tasted by Renevin on 7/2/2020 & rated 91 points: Nez de réglisse, fruit rouge. (705 views)
Tasted by curtr on 12/1/2019 & rated 92 points: Decanted 1.5 hrs. Great depth, paired well with turkey soup. Still could last at least 2 more years. (959 views)
Tasted by by on 11/9/2019: vanilla, raspberry, pepper, tobacco.

starting to get into a nice place. (528 views)
Tasted by curtr on 10/27/2019: a bit lean. (496 views)
(760 views)
Tasted by Renevin on 3/15/2019 & rated 91 points: Beau nez, expressif, des notes d eucalyptus, fruits noirs.
Tasted by ChateauDutremble on 1/12/2019 & rated 92 points: Open first nose of dusty plastic! Second nose of cooked cabbage, dark fruit, spices...touch of barnyard. Rich fruit extract...white pepper flavours... Tannins are present but nice umami sensation. Excellent structure and concentration....complexity. Long finish. Excellent wine! Ready now but will keep a few more years. 92+ (649 views)
Tasted by FlyPig on 11/30/2018 & rated 94 points: Drink up, this is as good as it’s gonna get. Bravo. (753 views)
Tasted by pgm on 7/27/2018 & rated 92 points: An excellent exemplar of a Washington wine done in a Right Bank Bordeaux, Figeac style. The Cab Franc is heavily foregrounded, making it a bright but savory wine with currant and herb aromas and flavors.

If it came in a Figeac bottle I’d have said “Nice Figeac!” and felt like I got my money’s worth; with the Cadence label and its price tag, this is a huge bargain.

Should be cellared to add some dimension and variety from all the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Ready to drink now and for 10 years maybe. (1085 views)
Tasted by fingers on 8/6/2017 & rated 91 points: Decanted for about two hours. Medium ruby/garnet color, clear and sound with no sediment. Proper Bordeaux profile on the bouquet: complex, light intensity, with a nice lift from the Petit Verdot and green pepper from the Cab Franc. The palate is still holding very firm tannins and the blast of alcohol is also a bit shocking but I think, as some of the others here do, that this has some promise for a bright future once the tannins blend in. Tri-tip, prime rib, or any charbroiled beef wili make a very suitable partner. 5+11+16+9= 91 (1746 views)
Tasted by Petersaustin on 1/28/2017 & rated 94 points: Softened over 45 min - fantastic structure. I think in 2-3 years this is a 97. It is absolutely worth the money. (1637 views)
Tasted by Stevethebeav on 12/21/2016 & rated 92 points: I was going to wait longer but didn't. This is doing well right now however. Blueberry, dark cherry, licorice and fresh leather. Great length and structure. Firm tannins. (1590 views)
Tasted by ephorn on 8/4/2016: Light shone through the dark raspberry robe. Excellent energy on palate. Tannins still grippy. Pure and clean with a touch of alcoholic heat in the finish. No excess baby fat here. I'd hold this for a few years to melt the tannins and develop complexity (1862 views)
Tasted by Stevethebeav on 3/6/2016 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 1/2 hour but needs a lot more. Very mineral on the nose and the Cab Franc seems to give it a earthy, brininess on the palate. Deep dark berries with mint notes are present. Some smoke and cedar there too. Great length and balance to this with fine tannins. I've got one more bottle and am hoping another year will make this shine brighter. Right now still seems a bit closed. (2008 views)
Tasted by Vince_chip on 12/4/2015 & rated 93 points: Cabernet-Sauvignon riche et dense!

(2026 views)
Tasted by Nerve4Verve on 3/28/2015 & rated 90 points: Beautiful well crafted wine... a little under-powered from what I was expecting. A bit of cedar, tobacco, and dark fruit balanced with the fine tannins. At the price of entry, I'm not sure I'd buy again when there are tons a great wine to be had cheaper. (2156 views)
Tasted by forcumba on 3/20/2015 & rated 93 points: Decanted. Needed an hour to really start to shine and it was still developing nicely, when unfortunately the decanter was empty! Wow! (2251 views)
Tasted by fitchbuck on 2/6/2015 & rated 93 points: It was f*cking great. What else is there to say? (1924 views)
Tasted by yofog on 4/24/2014 & rated 93 points: Sooo tannic, this has brilliant components but let it rest, seriously, or leave it open for a day before drinking. (2310 views)
Tasted by junglejuice on 4/9/2014 flawed bottle: Casa de Gilbo (Boston): This wine was a bit oxidized as there were some obvious issues with the seal. The cork came easily dislodged and pushed into the wine when it was opened. Despite this, it showed fairly well. If anything, it showed that if this had been in top shape it would easily held its own in the single blind format.

For this reason my score is withheld, although I will say that despite showing signs of being flawed it was still very drinkable and none remained at the end of the night. Which is saying something, especially in the context of the company it was in. (2252 views)

Washington Wine Report (12/31/2012)
(Cadence Red Wine Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Red Mountain) Heady aromas of black and red fruit meld with mineral, floral notes, and currant. The palate is bold yet restrained with length and depth supported by firm tannins that need some time to fully stretch their legs. A beautiful wine that needs more time in the bottle to fully come into its own. Give two plus years or a long decant. 41% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot, and 6% Merlot. 14.4% alcohol. Sample provided by winery  **** points

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

Ciel du Cheval (named for the wonderful views of the neighboring Horse Heaven Hills) sits further down the Red Mountain slope from Tapteil on slightly more vigorous soils. Jim Holmes has employed a fan trellis system and careful management to great effect; the wines are among the most elegant from Red Mountain without sacrificing any of the power and intensity typical of the terroir.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

Washington

Washington Wine
Washington State is a premium wine producing region located in the northwest corner of the United States. Although a relatively young wine industry, it is now the nation's second largest wine producer and is ranked among the world's top wine regions. Washington wines are found nationally in all 50 states and internationally in more than 40 countries.

Wineries
With 30,000+ acres planted, the state has ideal geography and conditions for growing premium vinifera wine grapes. Primarily grown on their own root stocks, the vines produce grapes of consistent quality, resulting in strong vintages year after year. While its focus is on Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the region also produces a wide range of other spectacular whites and reds.

Growers
Winemakers from all over the world have chosen to establish themselves in Washington, where they can create wines reflecting this region's unique characteristics. Their hand-crafted wines are receiving wide acclaim from critics regionally, nationally and internationally for their consistently high quality. Many of them have received scores of 90 and above from the major wine media. Overall this is a higher percentage than other leading wine regions.

Regions
As the state's fourth largest fruit crop, the Washington wine industry is an important contributor to the long-term preservation of Washington agriculture. The industry is committed to sustainable agricultural practices and conservation of water resources.

Varieties
Washington produces more than 20 wine grape varieties - a ratio of 56 percent white to 44 percent red. As the industry matures and experiments, it finds many grape varieties that thrive throughout Washington's microclimates. There are more than 16,000 vineyard acres of red wine varieties statewide.

History & Vintages
Washington's wine future is limitless. As consumers discover the quality of Washington wines, demand continues to grow nationally and internationally. New acreage and wine varietals are being planted and new wineries are opening at a remarkable pace. Washington State is recognized as a premium viticultural region around the world.

State Facts
Washington's wine industry generates more than $3 billion to the state economy. It employs more than 14,000 people, directly and indirectly, with projections to add nearly 2,000 more jobs by 2006. In terms of tax revenues accrued to the state and federal government, wine grapes are among the highest tax generators of any agricultural crops. Furthermore, Washington wine tourism attracts nearly two million visitors annually contributing to the positive growth of local and regional economies.
Washington State - the perfect climate for wine = ideal growing conditions, quality wines, business innovation, lifestyle, and social responsibility. All are key elements of this world-class wine industry.

Vintages
"2008 and even more so 2010 and 2011 were cool, even cold vintages (think: 2002 in the Barossa) without the extreme ripeness, extract and higher alcohol that had become the norm in the state’s post 1995 world. 2008 was manageable but the duo of 2010/2011 nearly caused a “great depression” in Washington State." - Jon Rimmerman

Columbia Valley

Columbia Cascade Winery Association

The Columbia Valley AVA lies mostly in Washington state, with a small section in Oregon. The Cascade Range forms its western boundary with the Palouse regions bordering the area to the east. To the north, the Okanogan National Forest forms a border with the AVA and Canada. It encompasses the valleys formed by the Columbia River and its tributaries, including the Walla Walla River, the Snake River, and the Yakima River. The Columbia valley stretches between the 46th parallel and 47th parallel which puts it in line with the well known French wine growing regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy. The northern latitude gives the areas two more hours of additional daylight during the summer growing season than wine regions of California receive. The volcanic and sandy loam soil of the valley offers good drainage and is poor in nutrients, ideal in forcing the vine to concentrate its resources into the grape clusters.
