Tasted by ondinefrancis on 12/27/2020 & rated 98 points: Delicate nose on opening that matured into a full bodied and rich heady fruit as it warmed in the glass. Delicious anise undertones and warm plum in the mouth. Excellent now! (2443 views)
Tasted by ondinefrancis on 11/14/2020 & rated 95 points: An excellent wine all on its own but stood its ground with Thai fish curry. On its own it had stunning flavour of black cherry and a fresh tang of kiwi at the end. Full bodied and perfect drinking now. Dark black ruby in colour. Going to enjoy my other two bottles this year.  Tasted by Freezo_de on 9/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Bright mid ruby with slight bricking on the rim. Bouquet of cassis, black cherries, green bellpepper, vanilla and a touch of dark chocolate. Palate echoes nose, with the fruit a bit backward. Round and fresh, ABV 13,5%, medium acidity, tannins slightly chewy, providing good backbone. Short to medium finish with aftertaste of black and blue fruit, vanilla. Lovely but not too complex wine. Colour 5/5, Nose 12/15, Palate 16/20 Je ne sais quoi 7/10. 90P. (1343 views)
Tasted by Smudge4! on 7/25/2020 & rated 90 points: 89 after short decant. Light garnet, little sediment. Violets, blackberries, touch of mint Some bell pepper on nose. Like others paired with ribeyes cooked on real charcoal. Black cherries showed up on nose before steaks were done.in a good place now. Tannins are integrated so drink up over the next few years. Improved through dinner (1412 views)
Tasted by smcisaac on 6/1/2020 & rated 87 points: Paired with grilled ribeye. (1507 views)

Tasted by Pbnj on 4/29/2020 & rated 87 points: Drank 1 hot with grilled ribeye, oven roasted potato, grilled tomato. Ruby/garnet red, significant but appropriate acidity and mellowing tannins.

Transforms to enjoyable, balanced, classic Bordeaux. While not a knock out robust mouthful, it is far from a shallow disappointment. Pleasant nose, low side of leggy, probably best to drink by 2024. (1482 views)
Tasted by Ranjack on 4/19/2020 & rated 93 points: Every bottle of this case has been remarkable for the price. It is testament to the old saw about buying lesser chateaus in exceptional years. In its younger days, it was fresh and well-structured, with great acidity and fruit. As a fully-mature Bordeaux, it has a wonderful perfume that could be mistaken for a fine Burgundy. At about $15 a bottle, it doesn’t get any better than this. (1547 views)
Tasted by tymmiol on 3/22/2020 & rated 92 points: Love this bottle. Medium to deep ruby color, the wine carries the explosive aroma of a young napa Cabernet, being at 10 years old, no less. Smelt cassis, chocolate, vanilla. On the palate the angular tannic structure (remember this is a 2010 bordeaux) has just started to resolve and created a well-balanced frame of its tannin and acidity, enclosing a mint and green pepper undertone. Medium length finish. Had it with a fine grade Kobe beef and tomato-based pasta. Perfect match, and just fantastic value (I think it was $20), and just enough aging to be very enjoyable. (1446 views)
Tasted by schneesurfer on 1/18/2020 & rated 87 points: I had much higher expectations. Nothing remarkable in the nose and palate. Don’t get me wrong, this wine is o.k., but I thought 2010 could be more complex even for a small CB. No improvement on 2nd day. Drink or keep for 5 more years. (1701 views)
Tasted by Bsharmastl on 8/7/2019 & rated 91 points: Beautiful bouquet of graphite and minerals with A floral undertone hits you. Just a wonderful amalgamation of smells. Very smooth tannins with excellent light mouth feel and a pleasant aftertaste. Black fruits And herbs greet you in perfect harmony. It would be a perfect wine if not for the short finish. (1953 views)
Tasted by BigGDaddy on 1/17/2019 & rated 88 points: Quick decant; clearly needs more time to breathe. Very woody, and dry, good mouthfeel and lingering finish. I like the structure. Old world style. Another decent 2010 Bordeaux and excellent QPR for $20. (2646 views)
Tasted by slulkin on 11/1/2018 & rated 87 points: Dark crimson core to a just slightly fading meniscus. I may be out of step with other tasters, but the nose seemed predominantly cedar and green pepper followed by black fruits and maybe a hint of coffee. Round and mid weight on the palate with, as another taster put it, "almost sweet tannins." Enjoyable enough on it's own while passing out Halloween candy, but not terribly exciting. (2793 views)
Tasted by KillerJones on 10/6/2018 & rated 89 points: Rocky minerality upfront on the nose, followed by notes of thyme, & slight oak. Dark cherry, plum, & cassis round out the bouquet.

Elevated acidity on the palate; dark cherry, cassis, plum present once again. Fruit quality is leaning towards stewed & dried, less ripe. To me, the fruit has held up over time.

A fantastic pairing with red meat. (3012 views)
Tasted by maxima on 8/10/2018 & rated 88 points: Bu en succ.
Beau petit cru, austère mais bien fait
et avec une belle structure...à revoir. (3291 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 7/24/2018 & rated 87 points: PnD 2/3 of the bottle. Let air for 1hr.

Clear. Medium purple colour.

Clean nose. Medium intensity with aroma of cedar cassis raspberry tobacco and ash. Developing.

Dry. Medium(+) acid. Medium(+) tannin. Medium alcohol. Medium body. Medium intensity with flavours of cedar herbs red and black current and a bit of ash.

Medium(-) finish. Good. Drink now.

Hollow in the middle too much green and ashy notes. Expected more based on the ratings. Does not over deliver for the price. Let’s see if the rest of the bottle surprises tomorrow.

2 Days later. The great pyrazine blow off. Less green more plum and cassis with a bit more flesh and balance. + 3 pts. (2846 views)
Tasted by Brown11 on 6/30/2018 & rated 90 points: I really like it. Hard to find is a good QPR in Bordeaux. Already makes a lot of fun for this price. Real left bank Bordeaux feeling, even when it’s not upper class. Paired with a nice entrecôte and the hour after meal and I had a lot of fun with this. But it’s possible to wait another 3 years for the peak (who really knows)! (2512 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 6/18/2018: An elegant wine, really evolved mainly by these almost sweet tannins.
On the nose is frank and fresh with fruit compote. Modern and a bit short. I am afraid there are better examples for half the price in Haut Medoc.

Un vino elegante y evolucionado principalmente por unos taninos casi dulces. En nariz se muestra franco y fresco con fruta en compota. Moderno y algo corto. Hay mejores ejemplos por la mitad de precio en Haut. (2491 views)
Tasted by Ortiz Brown on 6/8/2018 & rated 88 points: Deep purple in the glass with crimson at the edges. On the nose, plum, old wood, and dark cherry. On the palate more plum, with blueberry, tart cherry, a vegetal (green pepper) element, and a mineral, graphite quality as well. Saved a glass to see how it would evolve a day later; it was terrible. Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Médoc

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.

Haut-Médoc

Read more about Haut Medoc and its wines Long-standing fame The legally created division into Médoc and Haut-Médoc dates from 1935. But as long ago as 1815 a Chartrons broker, whose word carried weight, spoke of great red wines in the Haut-Médoc, so recognizing the high quality successfully achieved by this region's growers in the eighteenth century. The same Bordeaux broker revealed that the business world of the Chartrons and the great Bordeaux proprietors had established a sort of league-table of the parishes in which the vine-growing communes of today's Haut-Médoc appellation showed up well.

The Haut-Médoc appellation stretches over some thirty seven miles from north to south, from Saint-Seurin de Cadourne to Blanquefort. Within this area, certain zones produce wines exclusively with the Haut-Médoc appellation. It has terroirs of remarkable quality. And although we may note a certain predominance of layers of gravel (essentially Garonne gravel) from the Quaternary, all these sites are characterized by their wide diversity. Today in the southernmost communes of the appellation, the suburbs of Bordeaux, numerous vineyards which existed at the beginning of the twentieth century have disappeared, victims of urban expansion. But the vines live on... because man has retained his devotion to them.

The astonishing variety of different terroirs, the result of the very extent of the area, explains the diversity of Haut-Médoc wines, a fact which is rare within one and the same appellation.
But, over and above the differences, linked to this mosaic of climatic and geological influence, all these wines have the same family traits of character.
Alert and lively, full-bodied without being too powerful, and harmoniously balanced, they acquire a rare bouquet over the years.

In order to have the right to the Haut-Médoc appellation of controlled origin, red wines must:
- come from the communes of Blanquefort, Le Taillan, Parempuyre, Le Pian, Ludon, Macau, Arsac, Labarde, Cantenac, Margaux, Avensan, Castelnau, Soussans, Arcins, Moulis, Listrac, Lamarque, Cussac, Saint-Laurent de Médoc, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, Saint-Sauveur, Cissac, Saint-Estèphe, Vertheuil, Saint-Seurin de Cadourne "excluding all the parcels situated on recent alluvium and sand on impermeable subsoils",
- satisfy precise production conditions : grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Carmenère, Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cot or Malbec), minimum of sugar (178 grammes - 6.27 oz. - per litre of must) degree (an acquired 10°5) base yield (48 hectolitres per hectare).
