Tasted by lake.vino on 4/13/2022 & rated 93 points: This wine remains a singular experience - and at 12 years, still fresh and appealing. Nose a mix of floral notes of rose, crunchy cranberry, some strawberry, and a hint of cherry, with tons of stony minerality. Palate more crunchy fruit and mineral driven. Holy cats, this is one serious wine. No hurry to drink this. The acid and refreshing structure and lack of any heaviness or overripeness surprises from a fairly warm region. The complexity is remarkable at the $. If you prefer big oaky, fruity, high alcohol California Zin or Cab, this is decidedly not your bottle. (650 views)
Tasted by lake.vino on 4/4/2020 & rated 93 points: A very singular wine in the best sense. Nose floral with roses and violets an crunchy red berries. Stony notes too. Herbal and tea hints. Palate still fresh. Red bramble and stony fruit and potpourri. Hints of va. Very long mineral and fruit driven finish. Wow! (1126 views)
Tasted by kdubler on 10/14/2019: Like nothing I've ever had before...

Extremely aromatic, nose similar to Gewurztraminer, but possibly even more aromatic. Extremely floral, so much so it's hard to place. Almost black in color, even at 9 years old. Black pepper, clove, and every flower you can imagine. On the palate it just disappears, very little to no tannin. Spicy on the palate but light bodied. This could work similar to a rose for food pairing, but is black as night in color... (1279 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/5/2017 & rated 76 points: I was lukewarm on this wine upon release, and much less positive now. Weirdly floral in a manner that made me think of Gewurztraminer (!) with jammy back berries. I didn't enjoy this when popped-and-poured. No change an hour later. (2674 views)
Tasted by OldwineinVT on 4/1/2017 & rated 89 points: Garagiste selection.
Color: Dark purple
Nose: medium-full intensity. Gobs of flowers -- rose; violets; wild flowers. Spices

Body/flavor: medium; Rounded complex flavors of flowers and dry berries. Great balance.
Aftertaste: lingering

Opened several years after recommended time frame. Amazed by balance and mellow aroma and flavor (2214 views)
Tasted by latorsher on 8/21/2016 & rated 90 points: aromatic with rose water, plums, black raspberries (2444 views)
Tasted by latorsher on 8/5/2016 & rated 89 points: odor and taste of roses (2150 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 7/7/2016 & rated 88 points: Very similar to the last note. Hanging on just fine, despite the expired drinking window. Again shows the perfumed rose and pansy nose. Definite note of tea. Medium bodied, ripe, but dry and reasonably smooth, ripe cherry fruit, not overly long finish, but tasty. (2114 views)
Tasted by PDX-S on 3/28/2015: Nose of potpourri that is heavy on rose hips and violets. Juicy and full of acid, the juice zips across the palate with floral notes and a hint of raspberry tea. Entirely pleasurable and fairly unique. (2212 views)
Tasted by wormfarmer on 1/7/2015 & rated 87 points: Thick on the palate. Very soft & mellow tannins. Blackberry jam and dried almost potpourri-like flowers. (Which I guess makes this varietally correct.) I liked it, but my wife wanted nothing to do with it. A touch more acidity wouldn't hurt this particular bottle, but it's a very decent wine. We had it with roast chicken and vegetables, and while it didn't clash, I can't say it was the right move, either -- but then I'm not exactly sure what is. Kocha-buta? (There's a black tea thing going on here.) Pork with spices and star anise? (Ditto those.) It would be fun to play with. (2363 views)
Tasted by Francophile on 11/18/2014 & rated 88 points: Reasonably full bodied but rather bland tasting and nothing particularly memorable (2260 views)
Tasted by Fuzzyblues on 11/9/2014 & rated 90 points: Earthy, spicy, unusual aroma, violet, black currant. Jucy, floral (violet) flavor with some citrus. Nice wine with unusual flavor. Goes well with cheese and figs. (2406 views)
Tasted by nicefish on 7/15/2014 & rated 89 points: Citrus and orange peel on the nose. Similar flavor profile but mixed with spice and smoke. Unusual. I like it. (2678 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 6/5/2014 & rated 88 points: Dont get the disasterous reviews on this wine. Complex, fragrant and nuanced on the nose, juicy and with good fruit. Lacrima does have a very polarizing fruit profile, nose is very perfumed, almost Chanel so. Palate is very dry, full of plummy cherry fruit with interesting tarry, violet notes. Good wine, and for the price excellent. (2167 views)
Tasted by WestbyGod on 5/6/2014 & rated 82 points: PnP. Muted nose. More primary flavors akin to an odd tasting Bojo with some harsh tannins. Short finish. Meh. (2069 views)
Tasted by SexyEpicurean on 5/5/2014 & rated 82 points: Left a note 2 years ago, had another and not impressed with progression. In fact, this is not improving at all. While the color and bouquet are fine, the tastes are just weird. It is light and fruity like Gamay, but strange conflicting tastes not normally found in wine--almost artificial in quality. I do not recommend. (1954 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 2/26/2014: Slightly off-dry, rather unusual (2048 views)
Tasted by andtheodor on 12/12/2013 & rated 80 points: The nose is all hand soap, rose water, and old lady perfume. Thin palate, some dark fruit, peppery finish. Reminds me of Cru Beaujolais in the artificial grape kind of way. Weird stuff, unlikely to improve. (2350 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 8/18/2013: interesting wine....almost citrus on the nose and a certain spice and tartness on the palate...almost savory spices...interesting...not necessarily something I love but fun to try (3022 views)
Tasted by gordoyflaca on 7/11/2013 & rated 89 points: Slightly tart, floral (2925 views)
Tasted by Not647f on 3/30/2013 & rated 89 points: This was WOTN at the Seder at G and A's judging by the quickly emptied bottle. (I preferred a Vouvray, but no knock here--this is delicious.) Although tannins are present in this dark red, it's still pretty soft--the tannins are just so velvety and smooth. It had a little of the quality of Carmenere in the tannins, but lacked the green flavors I sometimes find in the Chilean star. The fruit wasn't obvious here, but it was present--a little plummy. Lots of perfume to the nose--some roses, more fruits. This worked nicely with the dried fruit that went alongside the chicken. I don't think this is going to improve tremendously, so I will probably drink my last bottle soon. (3429 views)
Tasted by curtispomeroy on 2/13/2013 & rated 88 points: Wide range of opinions on this wine. The first sip of this wine we enjoyed and then over the course of dinner it seemed to degenerate a bit with air. Corked half the bottle and tried again the next night and was very enjoyable once again. (3397 views)
Tasted by PolarBear22 on 2/10/2013: Not a bad wine, but not one that we really liked. No problem drinking it, but not excited about opening the other bottle I have. No rating, as I am not sure what is up. (3091 views)
Tasted by maxmanx on 1/24/2013: Best bottle yet- I left it on the counter, corked for one week, and it was singing. (2903 views)
Tasted by rjm_va on 11/9/2012 & rated 86 points: An "interesting" wine doesn't always mean it's good....the fruit is too funky and too forward such that it's out of balance. Wife couldn't finish the glass as it simply didn't work with the meal due to its too-strong presence. Another Garagiste head-scratcher (2662 views)
