Tasted by snsharma on 9/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Pretty good value for an aged super Tuscan. Drinking well right out of the bottle. Well balanced. (570 views)
Tasted by Delli on 7/30/2022 & rated 92 points: First of six bottles and this was a pleasant suprise. The wine is purple and opaque with the thinnest crimson edge. Earthy and dark fruit nose with understated herbal and leather tones. The red and black fruit on a surprisingly elegant palate. The finish is inky dark fruit. The mouthfeel is excellent with velvety tannins, fading acidity but nice balance. 5+12+16+8=92 (452 views)
Tasted by AAJR on 2/20/2022 & rated 91 points: Decanted & aired for four hours before enjoying. Aromas of earth & berries. Still encountering drying tannins. Flavors of berries, oak & espresso. Still has a long cellar life - DRINK or HOLD (598 views)
Tasted by winespine on 6/5/2021 & rated 94 points: Consumed this with grilled pork chops after a decant. It's a lovely food wine and it's in a great place right now. The parts are stitched beautifully together - there's still plenty of fruit on the nose and palate, the tannins have softened, and the oak (aged in barrique) is well-integrated. (1255 views)
Tasted by AAJR on 10/13/2019 & rated 91 points: Revisting after 4-5 years. Decanted and enjoyed over 6 hours. Dark fruit and light earth aromas. Still a little grippy, but far less than previous experience. Dark fruit flavors - long finish. Note to self - revisit in 2021. Aging is without question helping this wine evolve for the better. (1580 views)
Tasted by gquigs on 10/6/2019 & rated 90 points: Good with food. Tanins were a touch drying but some nice fruit as well. (1395 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 8/17/2019: Limited notes, tasted better than 07 Orma (1308 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 3/22/2019 & rated 91 points: Solid well made wine (1632 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 3/16/2019 & rated 91 points: Not nearly as cohesive or impressive as my
Last bottle. Aromatics were a little flat showing Sangiovese highlights. Palate showed darker, ripe fruits. Tannins were quite prominent and harsh, making this difficult to enjoy without food. Quite drying on the finish. This seemed a little over done and over extracted—not something I noticed in prior bottles. Still quite enjoyable with food.
If my notes are a trend this may be drying out with tannins getting more harsh. (1481 views)
Tasted by Barbacarlo on 12/13/2018 & rated 96 points: Buonissimo! Da decantare almeno 3 ore. (1111 views)
Tasted by gajalaa on 6/13/2018 & rated 91 points: Still very good! (1471 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 4/7/2018 & rated 94 points: Decanted for an hour and a half. Pungent nose of Welch's grape juice and bubble gum. Deep rich purple hue and still very youthful in appearance. I had some trepidation opening this wine as recent reviews have said it was still too young. I couldn't disagree more. This is a big, lush wine with all sorts of complexity and a fantastically soft finish. This baby is singing right now and will probably continue to improve over the next 10 years. There's a lot of life still left in this bad boy. (1533 views)
Tasted by gajalaa on 4/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Wow (2108 views)
Tasted by prof b on 3/7/2017: too young for my taste but a nice wine nevertheless. Drying tannins dominate the palate but cherries and red raspberries come across on the nose, making for an interesting wine. Hold. (2208 views)
Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 1/14/2017 & rated 91 points: Drank with friends at Toscana Trattoria, Pattaya, Thailand. Excellent wine and pizza/pasta place. Thanks to the young Thai fella who suggested this nice Toscana! (2451 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 1/9/2017 & rated 92 points: Darker fruit profile and a bit riper than the last bottle. Almost all blue and back fruit here-- not the bright red of the last bottle. Despite pushing the ripeness, this is well polished and poised, with great balance. Still plenty of tannin, but the plush fruit makes this attractive now. Can drink or hold. (1903 views)
Tasted by Pluecht on 11/25/2016 & rated 91 points: Fantastic full-bodied super Tuscan, long sexy legs rounded tannins broad shoulders. continue to age (1805 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 8/21/2016: 2007 Castello di Bossi Corbaia: 70 cab, 30 Sangiovese, nose and palate includes more earthy, barnyard components, lighter fruit profile, more acid, paired better w red meat sauce.

2007 paleo macchiole: cab franc, darker and more ripe fruit profile, not a lot of complexities, sweeter, less acid.

Both drinking well (92-94), will go for another 5 easy. (1387 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 3/4/2016 & rated 94 points: This was exactly what I was looking for tonight. Nose was more expressive than expeted, with a lifted floral character of red fruits and rose petals with a little tar mixed in. Palate was much darker in profile, with plum and cherry notes, hint of red fruit liquor, and a little mint. Quite concentrated and dark, with prominent tannins on the back end. Moderate to long finish, a bit drying and bitter given the level of tannins, but quite refreshing. I'm guessing this is showing a bit of the heat of the vintage and is more concentrated and larger scaled than I expected (and larger scaled than I generally prefer) but this seems to work for me tonight and I didn't get the sense this was too big for the structure. Could use some time to pull in the tannins a bit more. Drink or hold. Worked well with red sauce and meatballs. (1765 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 12/1/2015 & rated 93 points: Showed better today than last bottle over two years ago. Had more of a Merlot fruit profile rather than Cabernet , the usual Sangiovese floral aromatics barely detectable. Fairly rich and Ripe, with significant but soft tannins. Drink now or over next five years. (1794 views)
Tasted by Nils1921 on 4/13/2015 & rated 95 points: Fabulous wine. Glad I waited... Cherries, leather, smoke, a hint of orange citrus. Very smooth. Perfectly aged. Good for 3-4 years. (2263 views)
Tasted by AAJR on 3/15/2015 & rated 89 points: Last tried this wine 2 years ago, notes very similar - the wine needs more time to mature. Decanted & consumed over 5 hours. Extremely tight & tannic right out of the bottle, but opened up & softened over time. The potential is there, reccomend revisiting after 2017. (2024 views)
Tasted by gquigs on 2/15/2015 & rated 88 points: Took time for this to open up. It still had strong tannins that dominated. Solid, but needs more time (1930 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 7/4/2013: Popped cork, no decant but drank over 3 hrs. Dark purple and black fruits, iron, some astringent/bitter undertones that were unpleasant, somewhat modern in style. I did not get what I was hoping for : the floral aromas and elegance of Sangiovese, and the sweet richness of cab. Not sure if this wine is just too young, but I don't get the 95 pt score at this point. (4071 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 6/10/2013 & rated 92 points: this bottle was brought by redrunner to a central jersey ct offline tasting held at sette cucina. this wine was unfamiliar to me. served blind. i guessed chianti, not remembering that redrunner had said that he would bring a super tuscan. the wine had been decanted for about ten minutes before serving. the wine started off rather unassumingly as a middle of the road chianti. turns out that the wine was closed and had not been given ample opportunity to benefit from air. the color was dark and rich which should have been a hint that there was more to come. all of a sudden, the wine exploded in the glass. effusive nose, rich in the mouth, full of power. keeps on developing intensity through 30 minutes of tasting. the wine was thoroughly enjoyable at this point but is sure to develop into something even more extraordinary in 5 to 10 years. thanks for this experience, redrunner, and welcome to the group. SuperTuscan Blend

SuperTuscan Blend refers to wines which feature a significant Sangiovese component combined with grapes not traditionally associated with Italy like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This separates it from "Sangiovese blend" which is used for wines which are predominantly Sangiovese and combined with traditional Italian varieties. There is often confusion as many wines most famous associated with the term "Super Tuscan" like Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia have no Sangiovese and are properly linked to 'Red Bordeaux Blend.'

In fact, Super Tuscan was a term coined to refer specifically to wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello. These were wines that "fell out" of the official DOCG classification of Italian wines because they either contained grapes not permitted (international varietals such as cabernet sauvignon or merlot,) were aged differently (I.e. in barrique) or were 100% sangiovese - which was not permitted at the time for Chianti (E.g. Fontodi Flaccianello.) Forced to be classified as simply "Vina di Tavola" these wines nontheless quickly found favour in international markets and comanded prices above the highest quality DOCG Chianti Classico & Brunello di Montalcino wines at the time. The wine industry and press began to refer to these wines as SuperTuscans because of their popularity and quality, but also because of the prices they commanded. Subsequently, the Italian authorities, under the Goria Law 1992, redrew the classifications, and included the category IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) to classify the SuperTuscans.
