Community Tasting Notes (average 92.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 61 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Collector1855 on 9/29/2023 & rated 94 points: CdP blind tasting. Illuminating evening, while there were some nice and complex wines there were also quite a few misses. Issues revolved around either not aging well and becoming pruney, oxidative with cooked fruit aromas or just being too heavy/sweet/alcoholic. TN: This was the first red that convinced me front-to-back. Discrete nose of cool dark fruit, licorice, intermixed with subtle underbrush and earthy elements, everything is very precise. The palate is well judged, medium+ bodied and not over the top (despite 15% Alc), good finish. Good now and can age further. 94-95 (1068 views)
Tasted by Jfung21 on 7/29/2023 & rated 94 points: Even more delicious with time
Paired with bbq steak. Raisins and anise. Great long finish - still has a sweetness and tannins. Has longer aging potential (490 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 7/16/2023 & rated 94 points: I haven‘t had this in a few years. It has developped really nicely since my last bottle. Open and radiant, this is showing notes of blackberries, dark cherries and kirsch, some dark notes of soil, some notes of leather/roasted bone marrow. It's full bodied and dense, with excellent mid-palate persistence. As most 2010s, this also has nice medium-high acidity and still medium tannin that is very good quality, it has melted away a little since my last bottle. Long finish. A really excellent CdP from this excellent producer and great vintage. While my personal taste has moved away a little from these wines, this is really excellent. (773 views)
Tasted by Winnje on 3/12/2023 & rated 90 points: Smooth tannins, but overpowering alcohol scent. Decanted 2 hours in advance, improved further in the glass, still lots of dark fruit, pleasant to drink. (729 views)
Tasted by Mchiarot on 10/21/2022 & rated 92 points: SWDental supper Wild Roots (892 views)
Tasted by Mchiarot on 9/24/2022 & rated 91 points: powerful and perhaps lacking a bit of elegance. fruit bomb. certainly boozy mouth feel at 15% alcohol. not sure this will improve with time, but certainly this wine has a few years left. (681 views)
Tasted by peter.mancell@mfg.com.au on 8/20/2022 & rated 94 points: Excellent CNdP.
Big dark fruit, some earthiness, lovely mouth texture and mild but evident tannins.
Got better in the glass on the air. (661 views)
Tasted by peter.mancell@mfg.com.au on 4/23/2022 & rated 95 points: Wonderful mid weight CNdP.
Lovely fruit and texture.
So pleased we have another. (933 views)
Tasted by def on 10/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Thick and velvety. Nice fruit reminds me of a very good Californian. Certainly in its drinking window. (1196 views)
Tasted by Jfung21 on 10/10/2021 & rated 93 points: Licorice, dark fruit, had a lot of sweetness. Restrained tannins. Has even more aging potential

Paired with prime rib (1010 views)
Tasted by Oldmanzin on 8/8/2021 & rated 94 points: Red fruit takes center stage but is great spice notes are close by. The wine has fresh aromatics displaying hints of underbrush and flowers. Velvety texture that glides over the palate. Layers and layers of complexity. Entering a great drinking window. Great juice. (1184 views)
Tasted by Oldmanzin on 4/13/2020 & rated 94 points: I decanted this wine for three hours. Dark fruit, with notes of underbrush, minerality and a touch of tobacco. Wonderful spice notes as well. This wine has great balance. The nose developed more with each glass. Good texture and depth. There is a lot of upside yet to come for this wine. Great juice. (2282 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 3/26/2020: limited notes, had some pruney/licorice/burnt notes but overall good - score in the low 90's (1993 views)
Tasted by Plabella on 8/18/2019: gifted to Tres Bonnee Ammee (2287 views)
Tasted by Villon on 1/2/2019 & rated 92 points: Encore jeune et primaire. Concentration, puissance et fraicheur. Longue vie possoble. 92+ (2633 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 12/4/2018 & rated 91 points: Just about gave up on CdP...this isn't a 100% turnaround, but keeps the wine alive in my universe. Especially at the sub $40 price paid. Cinnamon, caramel, red and black fruit, grilled meat, mineral. Nice acidity, Significant tannin. thinking this has years still (2225 views)
Tasted by DonDon on 9/13/2018 & rated 93 points: I am not arguing this is the greatest wine on the planet but on this evening, with no decant at all, it was perfect and delicious straight out of the bottle. Classic CNdP flavours but so so fresh. Elegant and mineral. Have 6 left and will enjoy how this ages (1764 views)
Tasted by Winefeld on 8/25/2018 & rated 92 points: Liquorice, camphor, garrigue, mushroom, tea leaves, rose pedal, plum, blueberry, menthol, leather, earth, moss. Finely tuned acidity balances still firm tannins. Never beastly despite tipping the scales at 15%. Peaking now and for the next several years. Enjoy freely. (1465 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 2/18/2018 & rated 94 points: About 2.5 years after my last bottle, this is still showing pretty young. First a little reticent, but opening up a little in the glass. Pretty complex but slightly muted aromatics of blackberries, dark cherries and kirsch, some dark earthy notes and some animalic notes of roasted bone marrow. It's full bodied and pretty dense, but without being heavy, has nice medium-high acidity and medium+ tannin that is very good quality. Long finish. If this is gonna open up some more, it will be a really great CdP and a spectacular value, even in this region known for good value. (94+) (2590 views)
Tasted by iawcc on 5/10/2017 & rated 91 points: The Grenache really come through. Medium tannin, high acid, full body. Earthy mushroom as red fruit. (2371 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 12/6/2015 & rated 94 points: Darker ruby color with some purple. First slightly reticent, in need of some air. Very beautiful notes of blackberries, kirsch, dark cherries, earth, some flowers, meat, roasted bone marrow and some spices. It's pretty full-bodied but with impeccable balance, has medium-high tannin and medium-high acidity. Great and complex finish. This is still pretty young at the moment, I will give my remaining bottles a few more years but it's already very pretty and I love the vintages' freshness a lot! (94+) Excellent value too. (4246 views)
Tasted by DonDon on 7/27/2015 & rated 92 points: I've left a note on this before but it's really improving. For the price this is a superb CNP (3857 views)
Tasted by Baggio on 3/19/2015 & rated 91 points: Whew! Intense. Syrah dominant, I would say. Needs time. (4444 views)
Tasted by sp4388 on 12/9/2014 & rated 92 points: Delicious dark fruit and cherries and a little spice, silky texture, tannins still very strong- Id hold this at least a couple more years or give it a long decant. For $45 in an expensive category, this is on a relative basis a pretty good deal. 92 (4053 views)
94+ pts (3887 views)

AOC Red Châteauneuf du Pape
Cuvée Hautes Brusquières

Grape varieties :
This cuvee is made up of Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%)
The vines are between 30 to 50 years old.
Situation and soil type :
All the grapes come from the Brusquières plateau, in the north of Châteauneuf du Pape, where we can find the famous round pebbles and a clayey subsoil
Vats :
Wood and stainless steel with temperature control

Vatting :
Since 2000, we have decided to destem and to crush all grapes
Vatting lasts 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the vintage at a temperature between 25 and 30°C
A release or a punching of the cap is done every 2 days and pumping over every day.
The malolactic fermentation happens in barrels and vats.
Ageing :
Ageing continues in barrels and big oak tanks during 12 – 18 months depending on the vintage.
Tasting :
This is an atypical cuvee in terms of its complexity of aromas: deep spice, black fruit flavors and chocolate notes are overlaid with leather and a wild complexity.
This complex nectar needs a long cellaring to 15 years from vintage.
Further information:
The cuvee bottled without filtration is stocked in our warehouse air-conditioned at 16°C.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
