Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by cab blends on 11/12/2015 & rated 95 points: The best of the last 6 cabs over the past week.

While the color has aged - garnet with copper, the body and tannins are mature and integrated. Tannins still nice at 7/10 and a lengthy finish. Meaty and toasted tannins in the nose - nice and enticing.Hints of chalk too. (2313 views)
Tasted by Millennial Drinkers on 11/11/2015 & rated 93 points: Beautiful garnet with brown edges. Nose has petrol, cassis and green peppers. Palate started with cassis and got slightly more acidic. Moderate tannins, 6/10, moderate body. Well integrated. Moderate finish but drink now, wears off as it breathes. (2402 views)
Tasted by Anative on 9/12/2015 & rated 92 points: Cork crumbled but had done its job as the wine was perfect. Nose was full of cherries, color was brick red, on the palette it was a wonderful balance of fruit with a nice silky long finish. Only have two more of these...nust find more. (2499 views)
Tasted by quickben on 1/19/2014 & rated 90 points: Simply superb - this is still full of life - opened up some 3 hours after opening and while initially fruit restrained began to come through - might have been a little cool to start as well. Some cassis notes - and with a bit of pheasant a great accompaniment (2973 views)
Tasted by quickben on 1/2/2012 & rated 90 points: Really drinking beautifully - what was a difficult vintage for many has been well managed and vilified into a truly lovely vinous experience. Initial notes are intense fruit but mellows giving cassis and smoky flavours with really good length (3873 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 6/20/2009 & rated 89 points: Very juicy cassis. A lot of good sweetness. Everything is there, but it lacks the complexity and refinement of the truly great. Nevertheless a really very good wine. Ready now, but no hurry. (2461 views)
Tasted by andrewstevenson.com on 8/15/2008 & rated 93 points: Wine-Pages South African Offline (Market Restaurant, Manchester): This has an attractive nose - very rounded and Bordeaux-like in style. Lovely, caressing palate, with sweet, but not over-sweet round, black fruit. A very pleasant, very drinkable, very impressive wine. (2999 views)
Tasted by Oh Dae-su on 2/17/2008 & rated 89 points: It is a rather dark, violet coloured Cabernet Sauvignon. The fragrance is dominated by paprika powder, black current, cherry and a bit of chocolate as well as a hint of smoke. The flavours are quiet concentrated. Black currant and cherry are the strongest ones. It is still rather tannic, although 2002 was a very questionable year. Its style is old fashioned. There are not overpowered fruit tastes or too much sweetness. The only modern impression I could spot could be its "creamy" character. Maybe the 14 % alcohol are a bit too much, but I don't have the impression that this might cause disharmony. It simply makes the wine a bit too aggressiv. Anyway I guess it is by far one of the best South African Cabernet Sauvignons from 2002. (2452 views)
Tasted by Mlermontov on 10/5/2005 & rated 88 points: South African Wines - VERY LONG; 10/5/2005-10/6/2005 (the Modern): well made wine from a not so good year. ripe flavors and good medium bodied wine. (3813 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon
