Community Tasting Notes (average 94.9 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 61 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by KeithSurg on 10/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Fantastic, but not what it used to be. Took to a restaurant, which was a mistake - tremendous amount of sediment that was not properly handled. Don't hold any longer. (390 views)
Tasted by wine-eau on 6/4/2023 & rated 95 points: First night PnP. Explodes from the glass. Black currant, eucalyptus, cedar. Has that beautiful balance of being powerful yet not overtly hedonistic. By 2 hours it had lost a bit of that intensity, but remained solid even on night 2. A lovely wine. (552 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 1/23/2023 & rated 95 points: Purity of currants, blue fruit, integrated tannins and graphite (816 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 4/4/2022 & rated 96 points: Similar to my last note. Dense and ripe. (1285 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 1/1/2022 & rated 94 points: Just a lovely wine in full stride at the moment. (1336 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 11/15/2021 & rated 95 points: Intense pure currant, casssis with core of graphite and lead and a long finish (1215 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 8/19/2021 & rated 95 points: I let it breathe for 1.5 hours before enjoying. I've enjoyed several vintages of this wine. This is one of the better for my tastes. Unusually soft and fine grained tannins for a red. Nicely balanced and seems relatively low acidity. Sour black cherry note. Mildly drying tannins. (1265 views)
Tasted by ozziewine on 3/4/2021 & rated 100 points: I've had her first vintage (2004, 96 score) and the 2006 (95 score) and now this. Obviously a fan of Celia Welch's winemaking.
Drank this three times over a ten day period (stored on nitrogen) and it was riveting each time, thus the high score.
Recommend using the Syrah glass with just a slight chill.
This is concentrated but not syrupy, thick, plush, dark berries, cocoa, overall dark profile, not a fruit bomb, tannins are fully resolved, drinking absolutely spectacular today, super elegant. That was day 1.
Second time I tried it I picked up on some cinnamon on the finish. Oh my.
Third time I tried it, mint came into play. Is there any flavor this doesn't possess?
Captivating aromas in the glass, polished, fresh, lots of verve. Wow!
I'd say this was just the right wine on the right night, but it was that way over three different, separated by days, occasions. For me, that's wine drinking nirvana. (1608 views)
Tasted by noni15 on 2/8/2021 & rated 95 points: Day 1 : Coravin, this wine is out of this world, concentrated and full of fruit layers and plenty of more life ahead. I did not wait more than 30 mins of air on the glass and opened up nicely to be able to express itself beautifully. It is really a master piece of Napa Valley. (1360 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 10/25/2020 & rated 94 points: Purple fruit - blackberry, currants, and dark cherry. Really smooth with a nice purity but a little lighter profile than expected especially next to the 2016 vintage - medium body. Nice rich flavors of dark berries, some spice box, and cocoa. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over a couple more. Not much improvement with time but at a nice drinking point. However, drank next to the 2016 vintage which I thought was a couple points better - bigger/fuller fruit. Nonetheless, 2010 is a nice vintage of this wine - no surprise of the 95 rating from WA. 100% cab. (2719 views)
Tasted by mjdixon on 7/7/2020 & rated 93 points: Not usually a Napa Cab fan but this was a beautiful wine.
Dark Berries and red fruit with a hint of vanilla oak.
One of the most complex, refined Napa Cabs I have had and not the usual fruit bomb (1454 views)
Tasted by davidsm on 6/19/2020 & rated 94 points: Lost a bit since the last bottle. Do a short 30 minute decant only and ready to go. (1253 views)
Tasted by rylanreynolds on 5/30/2020 & rated 94 points: Fantastic expression from Celia Welch of Scarecrow fame on an excellent vintage. (1220 views)
Tasted by Schiffy on 3/12/2020 & rated 97 points: Rich, expressive blackberry, dark fruit with secondary flavors of cassis, dark chocolate, lavender, mocha and a touch of cinnamon on the finish. Gave this wine a two hour decant and made a world of difference to fully enjoy this Cab’s complex flavors. Amazing nose of fresh cut berries, this is a terrific under the radar Cabernet. (1313 views)
Tasted by DonDon on 1/31/2020 & rated 95 points: I thought this was fantastic. The flavour profile I love about Napa but with more elegance. Tannins pretty resolved now too. In a great spot. (1301 views)
Tasted by davidsm on 8/9/2019 & rated 95 points: Spectacular with 1-2 hours of air. (1343 views)
Tasted by Griffeyfan04 on 3/16/2018 & rated 94 points: Took about 2 hours to open up in the decanter, earthy notes at first and dusty finish, but as it opened up some subtle dark fruits emerged with mint and a chocolate finish. Not as racy as the 2009 but more subdued and restrained, give this a couple more years or drink with a 2-3 hour decant first (2161 views)
 Tasted by tp096255 on 3/13/2018 & rated 94 points: 9.4-
Great structure, fruit forward, loads of blue fruit. Went great with Nick's Prime Rib Dip. (2114 views)
Tasted by MJMorris55 on 12/24/2017 & rated 94 points: Delicious cab, deep, dark inky color...nose of herbs, wildflowers, cassis and red berries. Balanced, smooth silky mouthfeel. Flavors of boysenberries, blueberries, black cherry with a background of spice (maybe cinnamon and mint?). Big, bold and delicious...one bottle remains. Great wine Celia Welch! (1731 views)
Tasted by kgh on 7/7/2017 & rated 94 points: First bottle of this vintage. This needed some time to open up, but is a smooth and balanced cab with delicious fruit. Should definitely get better with more cellar time. (2423 views)
Tasted by jhieb on 10/6/2016 & rated 97 points: Another fantastic Corra. For the money, this is one of the best cabernets out there. (2718 views)
Tasted by Corrie on 3/28/2016 & rated 94 points: Had this wine after a blind tasting of (6) 2010 Thomas Rivers Brown labels and this Corra stood up to the best of those wines. (2458 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 1/30/2016 & rated 92 points: Very dark fruit with expressive nose. Quite spicy and I'm not sure I would have picked this out as a cabernet. Even my wife said "Are you sure this isn't a syrah blend?" (2500 views)
Tasted by jkwoodward on 8/25/2015 & rated 95 points: Still so young but very approachable. Tons of eucalyptus and dark fruit with a bit of heat, but tannins resolved nicely after a 1-2 hour decant and drink. (2944 views)
Tasted by kgh on 8/3/2015 & rated 94 points: Dark berry and chocolate, with hints of cedar and licorice. This has awesome aromatics and long finish without astringent tannins. Drinking at or near peak. (2346 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
