| Community Tasting Notes (average 93.5 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by wsammons on 12/24/2022 & rated 94 points: Will buy more for sure (792 views) | | Tasted by G.O. on 9/17/2022 & rated 97 points: Slowly drank over 4 hours. It opened up after an hour and remained the same till the wine was over. Very smooth tannins, just a perfect acidity, medium finish of dried plums. A super elegant wine that unfortunately is fully reflected in its price. But at least you are getting what you are paying for. 💯% satisfied! (1009 views) | | Tasted by VettersVinos on 12/6/2020 & rated 91 points: This is in a really nicely balanced place right now but the fruit is definitely making its way to the background. I'd drink these soon if you have them. (1828 views) | | Tasted by wsammons on 6/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Lots of blue / black fruit - well integrated tannins (2101 views) | | Tasted by David J Cooper on 9/21/2019 & rated 90 points: Quite dark. Intense ripe nose, raspberry cream, berry jam and a bit of pepper. Ripe jammy red fruit flavours. The finish continues the theme here.
Just to ripe for me. (2366 views) | | Tasted by agebob on 7/19/2019 & rated 93 points: Still taste young. Fruit forward with red berries and mild but ever-present tannins. Pairs nicely with steak. Very well balanced. (1877 views) | | Tasted by alpha_ori on 11/17/2018: Muted and confused. Less than a week after being shipped to me, it is possibly still in bottle shock. Fortunately, I have 10 more. Not planning to touch them for awhile. Hopefully they will come out of their shell! (2159 views) | | Tasted by Al-Vino on 8/26/2018 & rated 93 points: Outstandingly smooth, round and complex. One of the better CdP i have had. Took min one hour of decanting to open up. (1480 views) | | Tasted by JacksonFalcone on 7/19/2016 & rated 96 points: Unreal. Bold yet refined flavor, all the while maintaining the perfect texture. If I could find more, I'd buy more. (2709 views) | | Tasted by peternelson on 5/27/2015 & rated 93 points: Deep blue fruits, red plum, iron, herbs, soft melted licorice, dusty garrigue, perfectly balanced, smooth, lovely. 44% G/33 Mour/23% S (2992 views) | | Tasted by yofog on 5/22/2014 & rated 93 points: Fabulous stuff. Incredibly concentrated yet not weighed down or too ripe or tannic. There's balance and freshness here, and lots of violets. (3893 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/31/2013 & rated 94 points: With one of the higher percentages of Mourvedre as well as Syrah in Chateauneuf du Pape, this stylish wine explodes with licorice, dark berries with hints of blue fruits and coffee bean in the perfume. Powerful, rich and character filled, the wine is silky, sweet and lush. There is some noticeable oak, but that would come together with time. (5013 views) |

A visit to Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape - https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2019/08/a-visit-to-chateau-la-nerthe.html Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. "As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
