This would have been among the top in that tasting if it had been included. Classic profile: a nice tartness, some savory elements with earthy and vegetal nuances, soft counterweights of sweet tobacco. Drink now and for at least five more years. (2148 views) | | Tasted by DrakkarNoir on 10/9/2014: 13% abv. Very cloudy/murky. Murkiness reminded me of freshly pressed apple juice. Nose was subtle, earthy, funky, a bit of pine. Acidity still present. Not worth the experience at ~$70. (2383 views) | | Tasted by BradKNYC on 2/25/2013: Loire in the afternoon with two Vouvray from 1947. (NYC): I can't say I was a fan of this wine on release. From a pretty poor vintage, I found the wine entirely too green, dilute and harsh back in the day, but time has been kind to it. The wine has mellowed nicely, though there's still some coarseness and austerity on the finish. Most of the green meanies have shifted to the much more enjoyable tobacco range of the spectrum, with a touch of tomato leaf/geraniums for old times sake. Softened cherry, earth and leather flavors are warming and comforting. The finish is a bit abrupt, and as mentioned earlier, there is coarseness and austerity, but with say a roasted chicken on a Monday night, this would do very nicely. B. (3841 views) |
