Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 51 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by PT insurgent on 3/13/2024: Nose, somewhat restrained compared to the palate. Notes of creamy, smoky citrus, grapefruit, orange zest. Great intensity and freshness, can't ask for much more. (553 views)
Tasted by cvst on 1/22/2024 & rated 93 points: This was again subtle and silky with present acidity but so smoothly woven in. The wine reminds me of a clear and deep lake in the nature, calm and peaceful with slow evolution and great persistence (530 views)
Tasted by cvst on 5/1/2023 & rated 93 points: Drank over three days. Very good persistence and certainly some good years ahead of it. Golden yellow. Nose of green apple and beeswax. On The palate apple, peach, pear, green grass leaning towards hay, pebble stones with notes of honey and early signs of petrol. Dry and lush. Very silky acidity, well structured and with a long finish. Early maturity (809 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 10/11/2022: Emrich-Schönleber Halenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs, vertical tasting (Botrini restaurant): In the nose, the wine sits close to 2013 + 2015, dry, flinty, citrus, lemon, fresh and light, green elements, pear, green apple, light floral notes, a few “pear drops” adding to its concentration, like spring mist in a garden!
In the palate, the wine shows high intensity and the same spring time freshness, green fruit, floral notes, high acidity, mineral, medium body, citrus and pear scented medium to long finish.
The wine is still tight, if not a bit harsh
-/-
The wine keeps its spring time freshness, pear, apple, lime scented, palate with a touch of sweet lime not, tasty. Interesting, like the 2015 with a hint of RS (876 views)
Tasted by cvst on 6/25/2022 & rated 93 points: Lush and dry. Let breathe in bottle for about an hour and drank it over the next two. Petrol, beeswax, apple and pear. Well balanced, acidity high but not too present. Beautiful long finish. (1248 views)
Tasted by Alex Barbera on 1/7/2022 & rated 92 points: Blindprobe - war auf der Falsche Spur, eher bei SB, Frankreich. Hätte lieber etwas mehr tragende Säurestruktur und weniger Süße. Spannend, unterhaltsam
11 wird nicht mein Lieblingsjahrgang werden können (1533 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 1/6/2022 & rated 93 points: Online Blind Tasting #11: *** Note is based on 2x0,1l bottles filled about 2 days before the tasting from 0,75l bottle ***
Glass: Zalto Universal
Clear, youthful pale lemon color. Clean, medium+ intense, youthful nose. Floral notes, sweet fruit, lots of crushed stones, fresh herbs, sea salt, shells, elder flower. Airy, dense and complex. Almost Sauvignon Blanc like.
On the palate very lean and precise. 13% abv, very well integrated. High, ripe and racy acidity. Liquid stones, sweet yellow stone fruit, a bit smoky, zests and nettles. Beautiful tension and energy. Very young and fresh. Rather cool than warm. Long, mineral and zesty finish. Certainly not at its peak. Give it 2-3+ years to fully shine. 93++ (1819 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 11/14/2021 & rated 91 points: blind
Much more evolved than the Schäfer Fröhlich same site. At his peak. But I had much better bottles from this vintage even the bottle was not defective. 91 (1512 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 7/17/2021 & rated 92 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2011 (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Bottle double decanted about 7h before the tasting.
Clear, pale golden color. Deep, smoky, mineral nose.
On the palate quite lean for 2011. Round, wonderful balance, very mineral and elegant. Long finish. Still very youthful. Needs time. One of the very few wines in 2011 with upscale potential for at least 10+ years. 92-93+ (1919 views)
Tasted by MRE on 7/11/2021 & rated 91 points: In a very good state now. Developed matured fruits, still feeling fresh, citrus, lime tropical. Very good acid and minerality. Good balance. (898 views)
Tasted by onehit on 4/2/2021: Very nice fruit and acid profile (787 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 2/27/2021 & rated 91 points: not blind
Well aged Riesling but for my taste too sweet. At his peak. 91-92 (1155 views)
Tasted by David Meddings on 12/16/2020 & rated 91 points: Medium yellow. Ripe orchard citrus fruit with a mineral kerosene note on the nose. Palate follows nose, with minerality becoming more prominent. Dry long final and medium body. (1037 views)
Tasted by DrZett on 11/28/2020 & rated 93 points: Very nice. Elegant soft acidity and very balanced body. In a good spot right now. (840 views)
Tasted by Frank Schneider on 11/12/2020 & rated 93 points: Very nice riesling. Ready to go. Improved with a bit of air. Good minerality and quite long. Missed the acid backbone to lift it up. (854 views)
Tasted by Vertigo on 8/15/2020 & rated 92 points: Blood orange, grapefruit, lemon, fennel, smoky and mineral notes. Medium plus acidity. Long. (827 views)
Tasted by dvansteenderen on 1/25/2020 & rated 93 points: Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs Vertical 2005-2018: Passion fruit. Very saline and long. (1238 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 1/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Halenberg / Chevalier tasting-cum-lunch (Wine Bar 4850, Amsterdam, NL): Reflects its warm vintage, was spectacular in youth, but lacks structure and freshness now, a bit flabby, with a slightly warm finish. (1944 views)
Tasted by Sunny10 on 10/15/2019 & rated 91 points: Hints of muscat, honey and mineral, full body, dry and long finish, nice. (1120 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 10/13/2019 & rated 92 points: Not blind
At his peak. Juicy, peach, apricot, lemon, pineapple. Balanced, maybe a touch too sweet. Won't get better but very good for the next 2-3 years. 92-93 (1262 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 8/11/2019 & rated 92 points: not blind
Juicy, exotic fruits, a bit lacking of acidity but still fresh, for the next 3-5 years. 92 (1370 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 6/8/2019 & rated 93 points: Nahe^3: 10 vintages of Halenberg, Hermannshöhle and Felseneck + X (@Private location, Frankfurt): *** brief note from an extensive tasting ***
Glass: Gabriel Gold
Tasted blind. Bottle opened about 2-4h before, double decanted before serving.
Very young and fresh nose, a bit muted. Needs time to unfold. Citrus and wet stone. Wonderful mineral core, zesty bitter notes, ripe fruit. Round and wonderful harmony. A bit more precise than the Felseneck. Needs air. Still very young. 93++ (1942 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/27/2019 & rated 91 points: From Magnum, not blind

Not in best shape. I had it a few times better before. Too "sweet", not so clean in the late palate, missing the concentration in the mid palate. Tropical fruits with mandarine zest. No chance against Schäfer Fröhlich's Felseneck 2010 same bottle size. 91 (1439 views)
Tasted by amateurwino on 9/3/2017 & rated 92 points: Nose of finely crushed rock and petrol, orchard fruit. Subtle, elegant style on the palate, with a steely minerality. Lovely GG. (2427 views)
Tasted by Marcyrillo on 5/12/2017 & rated 93 points: Great wine. Very long. Fantastic balance! (2667 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Nahe
