Tasted by Schönibert on 5/17/2024: Anfangs etwas zugenagelt diese Flasche, kommt nach ner Stunde aber. To Be Continued. (50 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 1/1/2023: Weiterhin bullish, es geht es hier steil nach oben. (878 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 3/25/2022 & rated 90 points: Da kannste nicht meckern. (1086 views)
(1308 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 7/26/2021 & rated 90 points: Much better this time- served cool, which gave it elegance and freshness so less spice and oak, more fruit, a most agreeable summer wine. (1902 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 5/14/2020 & rated 87 points: Mine certainly wasn't starting to decline and it was better the second evening, but my cellar is cold. Very much a wine of its time, with quite a heavy dose of toasty oak and spicy fruit, although much purer notes of cassis emerged the second evening. No longer really my sort of wine, but perfectly drinkable. (2645 views)
Tasted by caesar77 on 3/2/2020 & rated 90 points: Still going strong, but past its prime. Day two saw the red berry turn to prune. Drink it now if you have it. (2153 views)
Tasted by pinotwok on 9/21/2019 & rated 89 points: Meine vierte Flasche in den letzten Monaten, bin positiv überrascht. (2344 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 12/10/2018: Schöne Konzentration und volle Packung an Aromen, allerdings noch etwas arg heterogen. (2981 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 9/7/2018 & rated 90 points: Klasse Bottle mit tiefschwarzen Johannisbeeren. (2535 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 8/30/2018: Merlot heavy. smelling good. With some rich oak on it as well. Works it out actually. Stiff tannins on the back end. (2224 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 6/21/2018 & rated 88 points: Quite similar to Sénéjac, tasted at the same time, with high octane, high octave rounded black fruit and a touch of creaminess on top, but a little kirschy on the finish - slightly more intense so at exactly the same price it just gets the nod. Good summer wine. (2290 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 4/2/2018: Heut nicht in Topform, dicht, gute Säure und Tanin - aber bitter. (2044 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 12/15/2017 & rated 89 points: Dicht, rote Säure, einnehmend, gutes Tanin, Holz. (1749 views)
(1734 views)
(1600 views)
Tasted by Francois Le Mouel on 4/9/2017 & rated 89 points: Very good as always, but lacking the high quality tanins and the intensity of the best vintages. More low key, but still very balanced, if compared to 2009 and 2010. Not really a wine to cellar, it should be enjoyed over the next 3 years. (2676 views)
Tasted by Barolo Raymond on 3/5/2017 & rated 89 points: Medium-medium(+) ruby with translucent rim,fast-moving legs @13.5% abv. Medium developing aromas of red cherries, green pepper,, bramble, dry leaves, bundnerfleisch. Dry, medium(+) acidity, medium tannin, medium(+) alcohol and medium body. Medium palate of red cherry, blackberry, pepper and some evolving leather notes. Balanced, crunchy texture. Good length with focused fruit-driven clean finish. A left-side hedonistic quaff. Nice, precise and enjoyable. (2394 views)
Tasted by markydecker on 12/28/2016 & rated 89 points: Very high QPR Bordeaux. Leather, tar, crushed blackberry, nice extraction, good acidity, smooth tannins, very drinkable right now. Very pleased with this wine. (2398 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 9/23/2016 & rated 87 points: Upfront fruit, sprightly and quite high octane, perhaps a little forced, it lacks a middle section and depth but still charms and flatters the palate. (2454 views)
Tasted by daniel_eat_drink on 6/4/2016 & rated 89 points: Impressive nose with tobacco, spicey and earthy notes. Good flavour, but not with the density you would expect with this nose. Quite short. Quite ripe for the age, wouldnt wait too long with my next bottles. Good value! (2595 views)
Tasted by mike410 on 12/2/2015 & rated 90 points: Very simple well made wine. This is for immediate enjoyment. Drink up! (2446 views)
Tasted by macaujames on 11/21/2015 & rated 89 points: This again is great. Its not so much a livewire as the 2009 and 2010. Its a quieter and subtler wine. Has great florality, some cassis too, nice elegance, delineation and good length. Can be drunk while the 2009 and 2010 are cellared. (2466 views)
(2276 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 11/4/2015 & rated 90 points: Tasted during a WA event „a matter of taste”. Medium garnet. Nose of dark fruit with a slight bretty touch. Enters the palate soft with great balance and not underripe as many 2011. Great food wine. (2470 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.

Médoc

Appellation Webpage (Conseil des Vins du Médoc)

The land with the Médoc appellation links three kinds of Médoc terroirs: Garonne gravel, Pyrenees gravel and soils of clayey limestone. Taking account of the huge area the appellation covers, these terroirs are extremely varied in character. Thanks to this variety of terroirs, the infinite palette of the wines with the Médoc appellation has distinction, roundness and a balanced personality. They may be full bodied with a fine ruby red colour. They should be kept a long time for their many nuances to develop. Others are elegant, subtle, with a fine bouquet, ready to be drunk younger, though this in no way reflects on their exemplary finesse. In order to have the right to the Médoc appellation of controlled origin, red wines must: - come from the peninsula bounded on the east by the Garonne and the Gironde, on the south by Blanquefort Brook, on the west by the Atlantic Ocean but excluding the communes of Carcans and Hourtin, Brach, Salaunes, Lacanau, Le Temple, Le Porge and "land of recent alluvium and sand lying on impermeable subsoils", - satisfy precise production conditions : grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Carmenère, Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cot or Malbec), minimum of sugar (170 grammes - 6 oz. - per litre of must) degree (an acquired 10°) base yield (50 hectolitres per hectare).

Vins de Bordeaux:
Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot
Soil: Alluvial terraces of gravel deposits, light, good for Cabernet, and deep and clay-like, good for Merlot
Surface Area: 5,522 ha
