Tasted by Ryan_E on 3/5/2013 & rated 93 points: This is an incredibly smooth zin, medium in body, with lush fruit notes and just the right amount of smokiness. This wine is designed to pair well with your food, adding just the right amount of subtle notes to your palate. Let it breathe for 30 minutes before you serve.

Tasting notes: Blackberries, currants, leather, and a touch of vanilla on the front; medium smokey with fresh cracker pepper on the back (3414 views)
Tasted by dchaley on 3/2/2013 & rated 91 points: Wanted to write a follow up review on this wine as we shared a bottle with friends after returning home from barrel tasting in Sonoma this weekend. I am beyond impressed with this wine, especially after having tasted some fairly high-end zins both in the barrel and the bottle over the past few days. I don't know if it's the quality of the fruit in Lodi or what, but the balance, structure, and mouth feel just work. It's jammy without being too fruit forward, and has a nice depth and mineral finish without being too flinty. For what you pay this wine seems like a no-brainer. (3221 views)
Tasted by ShawnMcknight on 2/18/2013 & rated 94 points: Outstanding thick zinfandel. Gold Medal winner of California Zin competition (3416 views)
Tasted by dchaley on 2/6/2013 & rated 91 points: Admittedly my score is high, but that's because it was an incredible value at $5.99 a bottle on sale at Cost Plus. Everything you'd want in an Old Vine Zin, jammy fruit, smoke, and spice with nicely balanced tannins and a medium body. I've had more expensive zins from Lodi that I didn't like as much as this. Would definitely recommend, especially at the $7.99 price point Cost Plus still sells it at. (3183 views)

Zinfandel

ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-Zinfandel

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
