 Tasted by merlot78 on 5/12/2016 & rated 89 points: The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like cherry, red currant and vanilla. It tastes like red currant, cherry, mineral and vanilla. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity. (1105 views)
 Tasted by Mads Eriksen on 4/18/2014 & rated 90 points: En lydefri vin. Chokolade i duften. Mørke bær i smagen. Dekanteret i 2 timer og smagt op mod en californisk Pinot Noir som den krøllede. Passede fint til Osso Buco Milanese med polenta. Ikke meget udvikling i smag/duft. Vil formentlig ikke blive bedre og holde samme niveau i 5 år. (1566 views)

Blackcurrant, cherry, milk chocolate and a little vanilla in the nose that evolve significantly in the glass over short time. Juicy berry fruit in the mouth, soft chocolate, pronounced tannins, relatively long finish. (1621 views)

Fruity and supple on the mid-weight palate with perfumy character and some chocolate. Pretty lengthy.

Chiara Boschis is widely recognized as one of the first women producers in Barolo, though she comes from eight generations of winemakers. In 1981, the Boschis family acquired the E. Pira & Figli estate, occupying some of the most prestigious land in Barolo. In 1990, Chiara took over the operation on her own, bringing dedication, charm, patience and determination to every aspect of production in order to raise the quality and image of the winery to that which it enjoys today. In 2010, Chiara’s younger brother Giorgio decided to join her, contributing a wealth of experience both in the vineyards as well as in the cellar.

Chiara is an artisan grower, whose philosophy is to craft wines that combine the extraordinary power of Barolo with approachability, balance, intense aromatics, and elegance. This equilibrium is achieved through strict vineyard management (all work is carried out manually), careful selection, organic farming practices and meticulous vinification techniques that favor a gentle touch, allowing the grapes to express their true character. She is a farmer first. Chiara then unites the best of traditional and modern winemaking techniques in a continuous endeavor to consistently produce high quality wines representative of their heritage.

Chiara has a very limited production of about 1,200 cases of Barolo each year. Her wines are made exclusively from the 6.5 hectares (16 acres) of proprietary vineyards in Barolo (Cannubi, Liste and Terlo), Monforte d’Alba (Mosconi, Ravera and Le Coste) and Serralunga d’Alba (Gabutti). Currently two single-vineyard Barolo wines are produced, Cannubi and Via Nuova, though a third (Mosconi) will be added to the line up in 2013. Chiara also produces three traditional Piedmont reds: Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba and Nebbiolo d’Alba.

Barbera is a red wine variety, originally from Italy, which is best known as the second-most important Piedmontese variety after Nebbiolo. The wines made of this grape are mainly the everyday drinking wines of the region. The main appellations producing Barbera are Asti and Alba.

Barbera - The most widely grown red wine grape of Piedmont and Southern Lombardy, most famously around the towns of Asti and Alba, and Pavia. The wines of Barbera were once simply "what you drank while waiting for the Barolo to be ready." With a new generation of wine makers, this is no longer the case. The wines are now meticulously vinified, aged Barbera gets the name "Barbera Superiore" (Superior Barbera), sometimes aged in French barrique becoming "Barbera Barricato", and intended for the international market. The wine has bright cherry fruit, a very dark color, and a food-friendly acidity.

Alba is a town and comune of Piedmont, Italy, in the province of Cuneo. It is considered the capital of the hilly area of Langhe, and is famous for the white truffle, peach and wine production. Piedmont is in the Northwestern region of Italy, bordering France and Switzerland. Piedmont is predominantly a plain where the water flows from the Swiss and French Alps to form the headwaters of the Po river. The major wine producing areas are in the southern portion of the region in the hills known as the "Langhe". Here the people speak a dialect that is 1/3 French and 2/3 Italian that portrays their historical roots. Their cuisine is one of the most creative and interesting in Italy. Nebbiolo is the King grape here, producing Barolo and Barbaresco. In addition, the Barbera and Dolcetto are the workhorse grapes that produce the largest quantity of wine. Piedmont is predominantly a red wine producing area. There are a few whites made in Piedmont, and the Moscato grape produces a large volume of sweet, semi-sweet and sparkling wines as well.
