Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.5 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 30 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by lightning on 8/29/2023 & rated 83 points: Cabernet and friends: A blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Plums and green capsicum with a touch of VA lift. There is an immediate metallic note on entry and that sits on top of the wine throughout and mars the wine. Some chocolate and earth notes. The nose more successful than the palate for this one. Probably best for making ragu, drink up. (206 views)
Tasted by Alaskawino on 10/12/2019 & rated 91 points: Medium purple with garnet. (654 views)
Tasted by Alaskawino on 6/20/2019 & rated 93 points: Still very good with a year to go. Big dark and multidimensional. Keep last bottle for a special dinner. (691 views)
Tasted by Alaskawino on 12/12/2018 & rated 91 points: Medium purple with garnet high light. Black cherry raspberry and cedar. Hints of tobacco and green tomatoes. Palette is similar to nose as the acid and tannins are balanced after decanting. Good for another year or two. (764 views)
Tasted by Whitelion on 1/10/2017 & rated 90 points: Definitely a big wine... earthy & bombastic but in balance... wow! (1297 views)
Tasted by Motz on 11/29/2015 & rated 92 points: Drank over two days. The bouquet featured an intriguing melange of green peppercorn, fresh sage, green tobacco, bramble, plum, blackberry, black and red currant, dark chocolate, cappuccino, graphite, and mineral dust. The green peppercorn and tobacco driven attack transitions into a lush and rich middle of berries and plum, dark chocolate ganache, and minerality. Dusty Tuscan tannins make their presence known at the back and linger through a blackcurrant, ganache, espresso laden finish of substantive length. The wine features a generous balance of phenolic ripeness and modest alcohol. 91-92. (2061 views)
Tasted by eep240 on 8/15/2015 & rated 90 points: Solid Tuscan. (1781 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 4/10/2014 & rated 88 points: Purple with a vibrant royal purple rim
Full bodied, vanilla + oak present, smokey with stewed dark fruit
Some spiciness. Dry, nice tannins, well balanced
New world style of wine, but older charm filters through as the wine opened up after hour two (2554 views)
Tasted by therhonestore on 2/4/2014 & rated 90 points: Medium garnet. Intense nose of mint, dark chocolate, leather, a bit vegetal. Dry, full bodied and powerful, with melted chocolate, pepper, raspberry syrup, and dried herbs going to mint. A big modern wine that needs to mellow out. (2332 views)
Tasted by Jhcwine on 8/21/2013 & rated 69 points: Rot gut wine. The kind you drank as a poor college student, before you knew better. Absolute plonk. Either a bad bottle (but no clear signs of that) or terrible terroir and wine making. More likely awful wine making, as a good winemaker could produce better wine than this, even with poor terroir. 90 to 92 points? You've got to be kidding! Worst bottle I've had in a long long time. Drinking window? About as long as required to pour this down the kitchen drain! (2535 views)
Tasted by Tarrant on 8/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Very nice, good QPR considering the complexity here, overall very well done - Dark, full bodied with a nose of intense cherry, blueberry, plum, funk, mocha, spice and vanilla, nicely structured and integrated, quite complex, dusty, off dry on the palate with excellent length, nice! (90 Points). (1911 views)
Tasted by Fatty Cat on 11/26/2012 & rated 89 points: Two bottles in a restaurant late Nov 2012: dark red color; red fruits and vanilla; slightly acidic on the palate; medium/full body; round texture. (341 views)
