Tasted by kstoddard on 2/26/2023: Undrinkable (436 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 10/29/2022 & rated 90 points: No formal notes, but this was a wine that everyone enjoyed.
It was further proof that CA cabernets need time. They will reward you in the great enjoyment - as this wine did. (341 views)
Tasted by dajapino on 9/22/2021 & rated 97 points: Excellent, in a perfect place. Gorgeous balance of fruit and mountain spice, all wrapped in a smooth velvet package. (613 views)
Tasted by astrauss on 6/19/2016 & rated 93 points: Wine is still primary but in wonderful balance. Tannins have softened and the fruit and oak are in check. Very extracted dark purple color. Sweet bing cherry cola and sweet nose. More cherry on the palate with a long finish. (2751 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 6/13/2016 & rated 93 points: The MotownDoc said it so well... ditto.. what a great wine, at peak (2206 views)
Tasted by themotowndoc on 4/8/2015 & rated 93 points: The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like prune. It tastes like raisin and mineral. The body is full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (2621 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 3/31/2015: PNP later in evening and really nice. Still very youthful and dark colored, but not simplistic or heavy and very pleasant after many bottles of funkier European stuff....some big sweet Cali fruit was very easy on the palate...delish (2527 views)
Tasted by budman on 8/15/2014 flawed bottle: Slightly corked - no rating. Drinkable, but blah. (3054 views)
Tasted by redsmarc on 1/11/2014 & rated 95 points: For a wine that is 12 years old it is still amazingly youthful. It truly is coming into its own and the fruit and tannins are beautifully integrated. Mid palate hints of ripe fruit with exquisite tannins. Still very extracted. You can tell so much care was taken in the making of this wine. I am gushing as I drink it! (1968 views)
Tasted by budman on 10/27/2013 & rated 92 points: This particular bottle showed no signs of being over the hill. (2166 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 9/28/2013: bit monolithic
low 90s (1938 views)
Tasted by Novelwines on 4/20/2013 & rated 94 points: Spring mountain produces some of the best fruit! This stuff is so velvety at this age, I could call it a big Merlot lover's Cabernet .This one was a huge crowd pleaser. big fruit, soft supple tannins and a solid finish. Sherwin always seems to deliver great new world Cabs (1985 views)
Tasted by shaferguy91 on 3/27/2013 & rated 92 points: No decant. (2207 views)
Tasted by astrauss on 2/28/2013 & rated 91 points: Finally this wine is coming around. Nose has a bit of secondary earthiness to go along with the toast of oak and cassis. The palate is now more in balance as the dark red berry fruit profile folds into the tannins. Finish is moderate. Wine is getting better with time. (1901 views)
Tasted by budman on 2/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Smooth and in it's window!!! Very nice mature Cali cab. (1470 views)
Tasted by sfowine on 8/21/2012: Found it in perfect harmony at this point in its life. One of the last years that this winery did traditional CS bottling, and by that I mean not all fruit-forward, and more highly extracted. This wine highlights Spring Mntn fruit from good year with some age to let it integrate. One bottle left and it'll be hard not to drink it in 2012! (1782 views)
 Tasted by shaferguy91 on 7/16/2012 & rated 92 points: Decanted 1.5 hours. (1770 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 6/24/2012 flawed bottle: Saturdays at One - Glenn's Birthday! (Glenn's house in Southlake, TX): WIMLNR

Mildly corked. Unfortunate, my last bottle. (2559 views)
Tasted by King Cab on 10/20/2011 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour. Dark in color with edges a bit red, this was totally open and ready for business. Nose of red fruits with cherries and cassis. Palate showed some aged wine stuff of cedar box, tobacco and worn leather. There was a hint of forest floor. Pure and fully integrated, this was near perfectly balanced. Somewhat Bordeaux-like, it's one of those wines that appeals to both old world and new world guys. Pretty and precise with a finish that remained consistently red fruited. After an hour or two in the decanter it got softer and just a wee-bit thinner. I would not hold these too much longer---if I owned anymore that is. (2648 views)
Tasted by Early on 1/24/2011 & rated 94 points: I would concur with recent tasting notes--this cab is superb and its prime. Opened and let breathe for only about 30 minutes and it was most impressive. Will let my next and last bottle breathe for a couple hours and wait with heightened expectation. (2496 views)
Tasted by GlenviewGSW on 1/9/2011 & rated 94 points: Excellent Cali cab. Rich yet polished tannin structure , drinking well right now (2390 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 7/10/2010 & rated 94 points: Not decanted; replacement bottle from winery for a previously corked bottle. Blue fruit, berries, cassis and heady leather on the nose, with noticable but not overpowering oak. Just about perfect-tasting for this wine today, with a heavy-to-medium weight, fine-grained tanins, great mouthfeel with a bordeaux-like finish that goes on for 20+ seconds. Juicy, ripe fruit flavors dominated by blue and blackberry, still get some of the glycerin that I picked up on my last tasting of this 4 years ago, but this is in great form. 4 hrs after opening this has integrated even better, with faint cedar and mild black plum along with cigar. Now I'd assume its a bordeaux if I didn't know any better. Should still be very good for another 3 -7 years. I always thought of Sherwin as fruit-bombs until now. Much like a mature Fisher cab from a few miles down the road. (2555 views)
Tasted by cortoncharlie on 4/24/2010 & rated 88 points: Nothing special (2609 views)
Tasted by Vinomarcus on 4/7/2010 & rated 93 points: Wednesday Night Blind - April 2010 (Peter Pratt's Inn): Blind Wine # 9 - I brought this - Finally; redemption! This was singing, loaded with gorgeous fruit, cassis, beef blood and spices, well structured and very well balanced. I really love Sherwin Cabs. (3277 views)
Tasted by wineislife on 10/28/2009 & rated 93 points: Nice improvement since my last bottle in 2006! This does a great job of managing the fine line of fruit and earth components. I enjoyed the gravel and the mid-palette was a wonderful combination of dark fruits matching the earth. Drinking very well now and likely improves from here. (3106 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
