Tasted by Bob23 on 3/24/2023 & rated 94 points: Really coming into its prime. Lovely syrah funk, good blue and black fruit, excellent (621 views)
Tasted by ken@ampy.com on 9/14/2022 & rated 95 points: Delightful bottle. Enjoyed with Short ribs at the Bayside Bar and Grill, San Diego. Quite youthful with Tannic undertones which which disappated with Air Time. Should last another 10 years. Good complexity with layered flavors. Wish I had more of this one. Bought from Winebid a few years ago. Recommend a 1 hour decant rather a PNP. (1004 views)
Tasted by Bob23 on 9/11/2020 & rated 93 points: It’s delicious - Smokey nose, still lively acidity, nice zip, good life left yet. Mine was a library purchase from arietta a year or two ago so pristine provenance, but I adore these aged variation ones. Find one and enjoy old world sensibilities with new world fruit. (1949 views)
Tasted by grapist on 1/2/2017 & rated 93 points: Never had an Arietta I didn't like and this was no exception. Strong backbone of fruit, tannins and acid. Showing the best of both the 60% Merlot and 40% Syrah. Coffee, mocha, a tiny touch of vanilla. This will continue to get even better, but drinking very well now, even popped and poured. (3429 views)
Tasted by psusfca on 12/5/2016 & rated 91 points: I think that this would go up in score but maybe needs another year or so. It still has a bit too much oak for me. I think it is delicious with an *. I hope the oak softens - at least for me. Some people love an oak first red. (3393 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 3/21/2015 & rated 93 points: This wine is starting to some punch but still utterly delicious. (3944 views)
Tasted by VinoGuy932 on 8/22/2014 & rated 93 points: Beautifully assembled blend of fruit and power done in a graceful well structured style and in balance. Lots of changing layers of complexity that start in red fruit and end with heavier slightly spicy dark fruits with good tannin structure. Completely enjoyable now and for several years to come.  Tasted by mfrome on 11/27/2013 & rated 90 points: You had better like tannin. (3896 views)
Tasted by ledwards on 9/8/2013 & rated 87 points: I found this to be tannic with a touch too much heat. Dominated by sour cherries. Not sure if it will work out all of these issues with time. (3084 views)
Tasted by Mr.Overhill on 3/10/2013 & rated 92 points: Initially, the flavor profile from the merlot and syrah was somewhat confusing, with inky, almost mutated blackberries from the syah meets burnt chocolate fondue and funky creosote from the merlot. After hours in the decanter, things calmed down and a workable union did commence. It gained a sweet, almost everescent midpalate of deeper blueberry reduction, with a sweet stalkiness that was more bordeaux-like than expected. And best of all, this wine is holding it all together approaching year ten. A nice testament to some fine winemaking by Andy and Co. (3420 views)
Tasted by chris_3 on 11/23/2012 & rated 89 points: Powerful wine, nicely aged and integrated. Nice balance of hefty tannins and dark aged fruit (2986 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 4/25/2012 & rated 90 points: Nice wine. Let open for about two hours. At first the finish was really big and ripe and super rough. After some time the palate softened as well as the nose. Some nice meaty aromas showed their face with lower toned cranberry, inky cassis and savory raddish which was cool. Nice palate, caresses well. Big and bold and borderline over the top but with some air it softened out nicely. Good wine but I'm happy I picked it up in the after market this time around. (3107 views)
Tasted by dekay on 1/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Not quite as good as a year ago. Near opaque purple, cassis, leather, earthy on opening. Somewhat out of balance, it was awkward in the mouth. Ripe fruit, but acidity was tart rather than lively. Tannins were light and slightly chalky. Tart and smokey doesn't go well together; perhaps a consequence of the 60/40 merlot /syrah blending. Moderately long finish. (2589 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 7/16/2011 & rated 95 points: So good! Had to open another bottle. (3144 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 6/28/2011 & rated 95 points: Spectacular wine! Had it with gourmet burgers made from prime grade meat and extra thick bacon. Virtually a perfect match but then this wine would taste good with pancakes.
Koodles to Andy and everyone who puts this together. Personally I prefer this over Silver Oak.

Remember you don't drink the label. (2968 views)
Tasted by dekay on 3/17/2011 & rated 91 points: Dark purple, nose dominated by dark fruit with hints of chocolate and a menthol note that comes and goes. Nicely ripe cherry/berry in the mouth with great acids and tannins now in balance (Tanzer described as backward in his '06 review - it no longer is). The saline/mineral quality (which one commenter described as taffy-like) adds an intriguing element that leads to a moderately long finish. Held up well on second day. 91/92 (3011 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 1/16/2011: A solid wine, as always. Showing classic Bordeaux characteristics on the nose, with its oak, graphite, black currant, and cedar notes. In the mouth, quite full and rounded, with pure and precise fruit, earth, and graphite notes. A hint of tobacco joins with the acidity, and the finish is long and shows oak influence, along with ripe tannin. A- (2770 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 7/18/2010 & rated 95 points: Forget about Silver Oak, Caymus, and even Opus One this is Napa done right! I am not saying those other wines are bad but in recent years it’s more about the marketing than the juice. Arietta Variation One is GREAT JUICE. The scent is intoxicating just from pouring into the decanter and after only about 1 hour it’s ready to please. On the nose is has beautiful blueberries, spring flowers and a bit of grilled meat. In the mouth the fruit grabs your tongue and won’t let go. It’s not a fruit bomb it certainly doesn’t pull any punches either. It has ripe plums, cherries and raspberries with well balanced buttery oak but what’s most interesting is a light salty taffy taste around the fruit. Tannins are velvety smooth and superbly integrated. Finishes well over 60 seconds long by itself and a bit shorter with food.
Sure this wine has $100 price tag but there are a bunch of wines in the $85-90 range that does not come close this one. And there are even more big brand wines well over $150 that is about as good. Silver Oak and Opus One may make a great gift if you want a big name but give this wine to your enemies and you may convert them to friends.

Remember, you don’t drink the label. (3160 views)
Tasted by rsepulve on 9/21/2008 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour. More expressive than a year ago with a pronounced chocolatey-ness to it but otherwise consistent with my previous note. Still very tannic on the finish. (3409 views)
Tasted by rsepulve on 5/19/2007 & rated 91 points: I can't find my notes but here's what I remember. Initially reticent nose but opened up considerably after a 3 hour decant. Dark fruits, cherry and grilled meat on the nose and palate. Persistent but somewhat underwhelming finish. (3769 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
