Tasted by krob34 on 12/7/2011 & rated 92 points: This was a great surprise for my girlfriend and I on a night where we looked at the wine randomly and picked one to share no matter the date. We blindly picked this 2004 Syrah and let it rest for a couple minutes. Debating the quality of what might be we tasted a big, bold and juicy dark ruby in color wine. Very little acidity, very slightly dry, smooth on the front and balanced in my opinion. Could it go a year or two more, I am sure someone will find out? Enjoyed so much that we signed up here and explored the thoughts of others and was nice to see reviews from years earlier. We have a nice little selection that we seem to forget about and this experience was a very nice way to end the day (4430 views)
Tasted by The Wine Write on 12/28/2010 & rated 84 points: Popped & poured, then drank over 2 nights. Closed nose, dark garnet color. Black cherry fruit, a bit tart. Not bad, but nothing great. (4707 views)
Tasted by Colia on 8/24/2009 & rated 85 points: Very simplistic; grape and black cherry nose. Very little oak influence. Clean and simple. (4982 views)
Tasted by oakland.cory on 3/6/2009 & rated 87 points: Super bright pinkish red color to a clear rim. Medium aromas of dark cherry and blackberry with no real noticeable spice or pepper, which I guess makes sense for the Dry Creek Valley. Medium dark cherry and blackberry flavors continue onto the palate with some plum on the finish. Nice and balanced. (5402 views)
Tasted by thirstyman on 11/27/2008 & rated 88 points: Didn't show well because it was paired against the Stefania Syrah. More dust than fruit. No spice or funk. Simple - but good (but not great). Worth it for the $15 I paid, not worth it for full retail. (5220 views)
Tasted by aktormedic on 10/31/2008: Age has done a lot for this wine. The last bottle (8 months ago) was too oaky and too fruit forwards, this is much more integrated, and has some nice earthy and dark elements without diving too deeply into over ripeness. Great for the price (15 bucks) (2408 views)
Tasted by BeachMBA on 6/12/2008: No rating. I think this was too young. Nose was tight and spiciness was not full enough yet. Might turn into a very good wine, sorry I opened it so soon. (2347 views)
Tasted by GodStreetWine on 1/1/2008 & rated 88 points: Solid Dry Creek Syrah. Nice dusty component. Good spicy finish (2726 views)
Tasted by drdebs on 4/23/2007 & rated 88 points: Chocolate and cherry attack, with acidity on the back end. Will age well. Big and complex. (2606 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
