| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.4 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by 2 Utes on 5/9/2022 & rated 92 points: This bottle was a magnum. We had this in celebration for my daughters’ graduations. Excellent wine. Jammy front end. Great nose. Slight alcohol finish. Not hot. With a mag 5+ years left of life I believe. Big bodied, with more dark berries with raspberry notes mingling in with the nose flavors. Tannins are still solid but the wine is well balanced and drinking nicely with a brief decant. Still has the structure to go many more years. (2218 views) | | Tasted by VinoDiver on 8/19/2017 & rated 92 points: Soft, velvety wine with good fruit and lingering nose. Drinking very well as a pop and pour. (2332 views) | | Tasted by il_diavolo on 8/3/2017 & rated 92 points: very bold ripe style. I actually thought the fruit carried it well but you have got to be Ok with the style. Blueberry, espresso beans, milk chocolate - you get lots of upfront sweet fruit and lots of oak related influence, and not a lot else. Went well with steak and I thought the quality was high for $80 in Napa - would buy again in the style. (2148 views) | | Tasted by pdicorpo on 10/14/2016 & rated 89 points: Easy drinking wine. (2076 views) | | Tasted by Corrie on 7/26/2015 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully right now, no decanting necessary. (2679 views) | | Tasted by Mmulle on 6/10/2014 & rated 93 points: Amazing oak and fruit (2011 views) | | Tasted by beezer6 on 4/14/2014 & rated 91 points: Tenzing Portfolio Tasting (Untitled - Chicago, IL): Lighter styling. Young. Milk chocolate and coffee qualities. (3008 views) | | Tasted by jpmo on 1/29/2014 & rated 94 points: Drank this with a somm and a couple F&B professionals. Clearly the hit of the evening. Good depth and complexity. This is a winner that will get better and better with some cellar time. Delicious. (2426 views) | | Tasted by Nutty08 on 4/27/2013 & rated 92 points: Bassins 28th Annual California Barrel Tasting (Mandarin Hotel, Washington, DC): Beautiful floral plum and spice notes. Well structured and tight, with the fruit underneath the structure. Toast on the finish. Needs considerable time. 91-93 (3575 views) |
| Gemstone Producer websiteRed Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Yountville Appellation America |
