Community Tasting Notes (average 92.8 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 87 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by asheio on 3/28/2024 & rated 93 points: Great bottle. Still razor sharp, the fruit is getting more towards tropical. Probably at it’s best now. (443 views)
Tasted by Mculfsson on 3/2/2024 & rated 95 points: Still very young and not even near full maturity. Amazing. Still, extremely enjoyable. The points would be higher if it had a bit more complexity, but I would not be surprised if that came in a couple of years (617 views)
Tasted by Achermann on 1/29/2023 & rated 91 points: Felseneck vertical 2012-2021:

Peachy and quite herbal nose. Preserved yellow fruit, acidity medium+. Compared to 2013 it might lack a little intensity, but it is still very much alive.

Drink or keep. (2024 views)
Tasted by tobyc on 1/27/2023 & rated 90 points: Light golden colour. Herbal bouquet w. eucalyptus and banana. Dry w. over-medium acidity and minerality. Coherent and balanced. Preserved yellow fruits. Good finish. Drink now. (1828 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 9/3/2022 & rated 93 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 - Part II (Concept Riesling, Düsseldorf): Glass: Gabriel Standard
Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color. Nervous, reductive nose with some vegetable notes, On the palate dense, deep and spicy. Medium+ acidity, very phenolic and mineral. Beautiful tension. Long finish. 93+ (2485 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 5/7/2022 & rated 94 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Typical SF nose, that vanishes with air. Otherwise quite smoky and mineral. On the palate dry, very mineral, dense and deep. Great pressure and tension and very long. Liquid stones at its best. Still young, potential for at least 5+ years. 94+ (3324 views)
Tasted by dk563 on 4/23/2022 & rated 94 points: Honeysuckle with spring flowers, spice on the finish. Lots of minerality. Really wonderful. (2160 views)
Tasted by fc1910 on 2/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Another mature Felseneck from my cellar, pnp,
intense gun powder nose, slightly tropical fruit,
very well structured palate appearance, supporting acid with juicy, almost lush tropical fruit, limy background, mid bodied, fruit delicious to chew on,
but for me lacking some tension here, outstanding bottle, on this level it is more or less aloof criticism,
but, the purity, clean persistence, electric tension of the recently tasted 2010 I do miss a bit here, long although convincing aftertaste, ***-(****), around 92(+) potential (2558 views)
Tasted by Nisse28 on 1/1/2022 & rated 92 points: Very good as always. Now a bit more golden yellow, grapefruit dominates. But 2012 isn't my vintage. Generally I think they are a bit to broad shouldered, not enough acidity. I think it has allready past its peak. Stromberg is the best 2012 from here. (2130 views)
Tasted by Vertigo on 12/30/2021 & rated 92 points: Ripe pears, dragon fruit, white peach, apricot. Medium to medium plus acidity. Texture has some creaminess to it with a long finish. Really nice wine that lacks some complexity compared to the very best vintages. (1891 views)
Tasted by Brnshj22 on 11/26/2021: In a dumb phase right now. Lacking the usual energy and nerve. Day 3 showed brutal minerality but I would keep a few years and hope for better days. (1759 views)
Tasted by Mahatma Chianti on 11/2/2021 & rated 93 points: Tasted blind with other winegeeks. Obvious SF. Had 1/3 bottle left to catch up its developement for the following three days.
Phantastic wine!
Lots of ripe fruit in the nose, very ripe and juicy, not to say "canned", mandarin, pineapple and apricot, some reduction funkiness. Juicy on the palate, with ripe medium tannins and acidity. Great balance, though pretty juicy. Over time this bottle of Felseneck 12 gained in structure and depth, some passion fruit and cream evolved, it became more and more smoky and mineral. But it still stayed on the juicy side of Riesling. My regular impression with most of the SF wines. Don´t get me wrong: i admire SF for the sheer quality of his wines and enjoy them a lot. They are too good to miss and i have of a lot of them in my cellar. But i often wonder, why Tim Fröhlich doesn´t vinify his wines just a bit more dry...?

But after all: Great wine! Dink now or within may be the next five years. (1760 views)
Tasted by Cailles on 9/19/2021 & rated 93 points: This Riesling showed very good with a nicely layered fruit core and an overall very good balance. The 9 years have helped to integrate the acidity and lose its baby fat. For it to reach the 95+ points category it would have needed just a touch higher acidity and a bit more complexity. This bottle again showed me that these Riesling GGs just need 10 years to get to a point where I like them. From the wine list at Geranium.

TN: Expressive nose displaying intense peach, apple, herbs and a strong minerality. At first lots of petrol notes which disappeared the longer the wine sit in the glass. Very inviting and with good precision. On the palate the acidity is high and well-integrated but especially as the wine got a bit warmer in the glass it became obvious that an even higher acidity would be beneficial. The structure shows a good freshness, not much weight and a wonderful creaminess. The aromas are in the same orchard fruit spectrum with some slight hints of tropical fruit and a strong mineral core. Medium length. Overall a quite elegant and harmonious wine.

Decanting: Not decanted. Good from the go but improved with a bit of air. A short 30-60 minutes in the decanter should be sufficient. (2383 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 9/3/2021 & rated 94 points: Tasted at Geranium in Copenhagen. Lots of citric notes and peqch fruit, brutally mineral showing steel and chalk, also match stick and bee wax. Slightly creamy with nice, refreshing acidity. An intricate texture. Drinks amazingly well. Really lush and fleshy, but acidity at the lower end of what I would like hence not sure about ageability from here on. (2024 views)
Tasted by eagreni on 7/31/2021 & rated 93 points: Aromatic nose of yellow apples, peaches, lychees, raspberries, slate and flint. A powerfull wine, but still with a lot of finesse and elegance. Very concentrated, high acidity, seamless, very long. An incredibly balanced and elegant wine! The 2012-vintage is perfectly mature now, but a 2005 tasted alongside was still in good shape. This suggests that it will probably drink well for a at least 5 more years, but I guess it is in it's prime at the moment. (1945 views)
Tasted by asheio on 6/7/2020 & rated 93 points: Power and finesse. Very concentrated and tight, yellow apples and tropical fruit, minerals. (2823 views)
Tasted by ploher on 2/29/2020: Had this at a restaurant and thus didn't take any notes, but I can say that I enjoyed this immensely. Fantastic balance, velvet texture, long and just very harmonious in every way. Classic, top tier Riesling with a very bright future ahead. Beautiful nose promises fantastic development. 17.5+/20 (2770 views)
Tasted by champussi on 11/29/2019 & rated 92 points: Aquacongas hat das schon gut umrissen.
Tasted by aquacongas on 11/21/2019 & rated 93 points: Felseneck Vertical tasting of all vintages with Tim (Rocaille Düsseldorf): blind, Zalto universal glas
all 15 vintages of Schäfer-Fröhlich in 5 flights, all semi blind

I guessed 2008. Spicy, a bit sweet in the finish. Missing length and precision but in a nice stage at the moment. 93 (3352 views)
Tasted by Puteljen! on 10/5/2019 & rated 94 points: 3rd Annual Gentlemens Dinner (Villa Ekenhov): Always great to have a Felseneck from S-F. Never dissapoints. This is starting to shed its baby fat. Nose of petrol, chalk, pear, rubber, peach and lime. Some herbs as well: basil, mint. On the palate dark and rich but balanced by a still intense acidty. Lots of detail. Great lenght with more iron and petrol. (3036 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 9/2/2019 & rated 94 points: Weekly tasting group RWP #342; German whites. Many Grosses Gewachs (@ RW): Beautiful mineral impressions in the bouquet. On the palate juicy tropical and white fruits. Minerals and beautiful acidity. Great wine with a great future. (2486 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 6/8/2019 & rated 92 points: Nahe^3: 10 vintages of Halenberg, Hermannshöhle and Felseneck + X (@Private location, Frankfurt): *** brief note from an extensive tasting ***
Glass: Gabriel Gold
Tasted blind. Bottle opened about 2-4h before, double decanted before serving.
Unmistakably Schäfer Fröhlich nose! Deep, complex and a bit dark. Reductive, some ripe citrus. On the palate also a bit reductive with ripe fruit. 2011-2013 Felseneck seemed to me a bit more muscular, rounder and with more ripe fruit and less precision as the Hermanshöhle and the Halenberg. Very young with great potential. 91-92++ (3046 views)
Tasted by Markus IWC on 9/18/2018 & rated 93 points: Riesling GG tasting #15: Inspiring reductive nose with cheese, gunpowder, shellfish and white asparagus. Lovely concentrated fruit, lively acidity and a fresh mouthfeel. 93p (1647 views)
Tasted by mhensel on 9/11/2018 & rated 92 points: Light yellow with a green shimmer --- Nose fresh somewhat shy, grassy notes, citrus, some basil, nice sweet tone --- Palate fresh, watery, very tasty, nice tartness, wonderful acidity, nice mineral flow, citrus fruit, hint of peaches --- Finishes on fruity tart aspects. Very nice vine, very drinkable while classy. (2883 views)
Tasted by Bernstein1985 on 8/15/2018: Erster Eindruck Top, verflacht sehr schnell... junger trinken (2696 views)

Tim Fröhlich was deservedly named “Winemaker of the Year 2010” by Gault Millau, as he is considered to be the most spectacular riser in German wine in recent years. “And not just with the outstanding large wines, the smaller wines are also impressive,” said the Gault Millau critics.

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Nahe
