(2145 views) | | Tasted by brigcampbell on 12/27/2013: Green hue but fairly light in color. Nose is driven by green apple with pear hiding in the background. Palate starts on the attack with big Granny Smith apple and zippy acidity. Mid palate shows the pear and a hint of straw. There's even a bit of cat pee for the purest. Finish is very clean with a lingering ripe soft pear. Really? For less than $8 this is an all time favorite QPR. Normally we're not drinking lots of SB in December but it's been 85 degrees and we grilled ahi tonight, just seemed like the right thing to do. It's $8 and it delivers a lot of freshness, creaminess, even some chalky minerals. I like the mix of bitter lemon and sweet red grapefruit. So easy to sip. I whipped up some Monday night chicken fried rice and opened this and an Oregon Pinot Gris. Not bad for a Monday night. (2442 views) | | Tasted by brigcampbell on 9/9/2013: Very faint color. Strong citrus fruit and grassy notes. Well balanced. Good wine at a great price. (2484 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/22/2013 & rated 85 points: Still has the grapefruit and sweet tart thing going, but also really creamy. The fiancee has made this the house weekday white. (1918 views) | | Tasted by Mike Kopanski on 7/31/2013 & rated 87 points: Not normally a fan of Sauvignon Blanc that has seen oak, this one easily makes me adjust my standards. We have tried a couple of bottles, and really think this is the best Sauvignon Blanc ever from Trader Joes. As usual, the story starts with the fruit, which in this case easily has the structure and character to handle some oak influence. We still know this is Sauvignon Blanc as we get a touch of lemongrass and herbs on the nose. Lots of smooth pear, peach and white apple mix well grapefruit and other citrus. A touch of guava and some white spice. Super balanced acidity. The oak is slightly more prominent on the finish, and as it warms in the glass. (904 views) | | Tasted by BBinSC on 6/27/2013 & rated 87 points: Mostly the same as previous notes, except there's a touch more mineral in this one (a little more of what I expect from CA SBs).
Please note that as true "everyday wines," these bottles are being consumed over 2-3 nights, and the flavor holds nicely night to night. Very nicely done. (996 views) | | Tasted by BBinSC on 6/23/2013 & rated 87 points: Really good American SB at $7.99. The flavors are well-balanced, the wine is dry, citrus is prominent with a hint of grass, and the acid is there, although not aggressive. Really high QPR. Will buy again. (840 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 6/22/2013 & rated 85 points: Very pale straw colored. Aromas of ruby red grapefruit, lemon zest, a hint of rosemary and sweet tart candies. Tart and crisp, with medium acid, but the creamy mouthfeel keeps it from being too light. Grapefruit, green pear and sweet tarts mix with just a hint of rosemary and chalk. Straightforward but not simple. What else can you ask from an $8 California Sauvignon Blanc? (771 views) | | Tasted by jonahfactor on 6/22/2013 & rated 85 points: We might have found our patio sipper for Summer 2013. Would see this appealing to a lot of people. Has some of the varietal character of Sauv. Blanc that people seem to like without the aggressive herbaceousness that turns them off. Reasonable legs and a pale straw color in the glass. Notes of hay, guava and grapefruit in the nose, following by citrus and faint minerals on the palate. Hints of cat pee. Crisp, refreshing finish. At $8, one to buy by the case to last the summer -- as long as you don't take this offering too seriously. (849 views) | | Tasted by brigcampbell on 6/16/2013: By far the lightest colored wine ever, basically clear with slight green tint. Strong grapefruit and lime flavor backed with ripping acid. Excellent value at $8.
Note, this is different than the previous vintages which were napa, this is Sonoma Knights Valley. (830 views) |
| Sauvignon Blanc Varietal CharacterUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino County |
