Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Munch on 4/7/2016 & rated 89 points: What a pleasant surprise to open this and find it still fresh and elegant. This could almost be a Pegau Reservee in a very light vintage with a similar nose of forest floor, leather and cigar box and a nice medium body, nice garrigue and subtle pepper and blackberry flavors , medium finish. Very nice and seems to have a few more good years ahead.. (924 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 2/3/2014 & rated 91 points: Really lovely, earthy, complex Rhone. Dried berries, earth and perhaps a touch of licorice. Texture reminds me of a lightweight pinot noir with a lot of bite, but perhaps not quite as silky. Lengthy finish that ends with some tartness. (1153 views)
Tasted by efc on 11/2/2007 & rated 86 points: Pretty much what I expected. Hmmmm, something like a World Series WIN by the BOSTON RED SOX! HAH! I consumed with a Domino's Brooklyn style pizza. For around $10 you can get much better juice. Really just about everything you like in a Rhone style wine like a RED SOX WIN. (2528 views)
Tasted by dgossett on 2/13/2007: A very nice, eminently drinkable, food-friendly red Rhone. Nothing too fancy or special, but a great every day bottle. (2455 views)
Tasted by borneman on 8/17/2006: 3rd bottle tasted more like 1st. Mature Rhone-like flavors with oak and smokiness. Shortish finish but still very enjoyable and nice QPR. (2953 views)
Tasted by borneman on 5/24/2005: Pale granet-red. Medium intensity aromas of cherry and blueberry. Nice balance of acidity, a touch of tannins and minerally berries. Straight-forward but overall very pleasurable and a good food wine. (see contradictions to my previous note - is it me or the wine?) (3028 views)
Tasted by borneman on 11/13/2004 & rated 90 points: Dark colored. Smoke and oak flavors make this wine very different tasting, almost like a mature Rhone. Nice. (2876 views)
Tasted by Eric on 6/14/2004 & rated 84 points: My visit to Domaine du Pégau (TN: 2000-2003 CnDP and more...); 6/14/2004-6/16/2004 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France): This wine consists of declassified 2002 Domaine du Pégau as well as some "nice Syrah from the Costieres-de-Nimes." Light color. The nose shows some nice garrigue with some slightly off-putting stemminess or weediness. On the palate this is medium in weight and quite spicy. The finish is medium-short. All in all, the wine is fresh and interesting far beyond the rating. A solid effort. (5188 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
