Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mag357 on 2/24/2023: Leesy breezy flinty aromas, followed by a lush and tender mouthfeel, good concentration, sappy oystershells, honey candied pears, no razor like acidity but nevertheless balanced, the sea salts and slightly bitter aftertaste balances well the opulent flesh. A run for the money. (298 views)
Tasted by WST on 10/31/2022: Savory and saline. Perhaps past prime. Accidental alliterations.
Lemon, bitter lime rind, slightly nutty (cheesy?) Better with the meal than before.
Addendum; not past prime or in decline. Improves with air; luscious and excellent by meal's end (276 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 5/12/2020 flawed bottle: Mildly & frustratingly corked (678 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 5/10/2020 & rated 90 points: Delicious lovely succulent Chablis notes. Yet... caution, POX lurks here. (643 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 7/6/2019: Tasted over 1 hr
-translucent light-med gold
-mild reduction, ripe sweet lemon
-med+ acidity, med- weight high intensity sappy bitter lemon ripe yellow fruit, persistent finish
-impressive intensity almost bordering on exotically ripe (751 views)
Tasted by Mazy on 12/30/2018 & rated 89 points: Bien. Pas de coup de coeur, mais 2012 est peut-être plus difficile à juger, surtout sur un terroir plus chaud. (1128 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 9/27/2018: Begins well, good clear to yellow tinged palate, good clarity, acids are relaxed but present, some saline notes and overall good but not really as cut as I’d like. By the second night, this is duller on the palate, rounder, a touch flabby even, lacking in cut, and the color on the second night is much more advanced. Lately, I’m not that keen on 2012 Chablis, and this is another example. (1118 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 8/25/2018: Hmmm, the color here is a little darker than I think it should be. The palate at first is impressive, with some textural development of note. But then it sort of loses its energy. It may be time to drink these, a little sooner than expected. Need to try a second bottle to assess. (913 views)
Tasted by swapdoc on 11/1/2017: Acidity is gone. A tired white grape juice with some lemony undertones on the nose. Past prime or a damaged bottle. (1572 views)
Tasted by Ebrim on 5/13/2017 & rated 90 points: Short note - lime, greene apples, flint, limestone, stonefruit, needs more time to realy open, well balanced and concentration, medium+ finish. Very good quality, 90-91p (1411 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 1/28/2017 flawed bottle: Massively corked (1331 views)
Tasted by IJC on 9/16/2016: Soft, feminine in quality, with everything in balance - hints of limestone and talc, lemon zest and just a touch of vanilla (the oak). A wine of subtlety, it gave a lot of pleasure, and suggests there may be more with age. I did not detect any sharp edges, or missing elements, as others have noted.

Rated 1 on a scale of -1 to 3. (1357 views)
Tasted by -E- on 6/24/2016 & rated 91 points: Klar, mild strågul. Mild nese med med dyp sitrus, voks og innslag av aprikostoner. Hint av kalk.
Fast, dyp og aromatisk frukt med god fruktmodning, moderat konsentrasjon og lettere viskøst preg. Frisk, spisset syre. Tørr utgang med lette bittertoner. God lengde med mineralsk anslag. Har godt av å ligge litt. (1715 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 1/30/2016: Lemon, seashell, nice tangy acidity, almond on the finish, but overall this is not that great. It's a bit hollow in the center, a touch sharp with the alcohol sticking out as a result of that midpalate void. It firms up the next night, again showing lemon water, but Liz and I both call this thin. A bad bottle, or has this closed down? Bottle 2 of 12, and the first wine I opened following a couple weeks of abstaining after breaking my knee in Mexico. (1493 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 11/20/2015: This begins really austere, very dry, with a single note of wool and not much else, except maybe a hint of briny-lemon on the finish. Tight. This is not giving much up, but as it airs, I'm wondering if that's just a faint note of creme brulee? Coming back to this wine after some air, still dry, austere, young, but very interesting - citrus, minerals, taut palate, but just a hint of a layer of butter creme underneath. Needs time. On the second night, floral notes, more effusive than the first night, but so dry and minerally on the finish, under-ripe yellow pineapple fruit and a bit of wool. This is way too young to be drinking now. Bottle 1 of 12. (1140 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 6/10/2015: Much too young and tight but excellent structure and I suspect classic form. If only it showed a bit more now but will need to wait 3-4 years to let it broaden and add flesh. (992 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
