Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 50 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by tinybubbles on 1/27/2023 & rated 96 points: Great focus and energy to this bottle. As fresh as they can still be. (997 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 6/12/2022 & rated 94 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose put forth match-stick, lemon, brioche, and mineral notes.

In the mouth, this was a big wine with a lot of power and acidity. I was gorgeously intense and long.

This still seemed a bit young to me. However, I doubt it will ever lose the sulfur note in the nose and the slight bit of excess oak in the mouth that hold it back for me. It those elements don't bother you, your score would likely be several points higher. (1344 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 6/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Not quite as clean and bright as the ‘99 the other night but still correct and alive and a good example of mature Leflaive. A little more in the way of toasted nuts and bruised yellow fruit. (1414 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 4/17/2022 & rated 90 points: I thought this bottle was slightly more evolved than recent 1996 Pucelles and lacked freshness I'd hope for from library release. (RE 08176) (1525 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 10/9/2021 & rated 94 points: Cusp of full evolution into lemon aromatics and placid palate, retains tension. (RE 08718) (1841 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 6/15/2021 & rated 94 points: PnP, thought it was short on finish at first, but with air it got notably longer. Sesame-perfumed, rich, graceful. Lingering vintage acidity for the long run. Soft and powerful at the same time, just a beautiful old Leflaive. I'm running out of complimentary words here; consistent decade for the domaine. 94+ (1561 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 5/26/2021 & rated 96 points: Beautiful bottle. Smooth but complex. Nothing out of place here. (1402 views)
Tasted by WIBA on 2/17/2021 & rated 92 points: library release? and dangerous vintage but showed well. great minerality and leanness. Acidic and fresh but with time, it opens up. Not as explosive as the bigger brothers Chevalier or Batard, but an elegant one. (1337 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 2/17/2021 & rated 94 points: Showing good depth for the '96 BBM. Perhaps less sharpness and focus than some bottles, but very good palate complexity. (1468 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 2/17/2021 & rated 92 points: Library release. Lime, mint and peanut aromatics. Is peanut normal? Resolved palate. Can’t help thinking this should be better, much better. (RE 08177) (1367 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 10/10/2020 flawed bottle: Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose emanated citrus, almond paste, and white stone but it was contaminated with a bit of TCA.

In the mouth, this wine was lovely, with it ripe fruit and strong acidity. It had outstanding length.

This had all the material for greatness, it was just never going to make it. based on other CT notes, it appears this vintage of this wine had problems. Without the TCA this would have rated 95 easy. (1237 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 3/6/2020 & rated 95 points: The nose was beautifully explosive with flint, sesame, matchstick and citrus. Palate was precise and layered with strong core citrus fruit and lingering minerality. Got the punch and length. (1809 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 2/13/2019 & rated 93 points: Well structured, still vital, but lacking a bit of both from what it was a few years ago, at least in this bottle. 93- (1652 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 10/21/2018 & rated 92 points: Ingo's Birthday Clash 20.10.2018; 10/21/2018-10/22/2018 (Jörg Müller Sylt): Not so strong as the chevalier-montrachet last year, subtle rice popcorn, missing legth and depth. 92 (2407 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/27/2017 & rated 92 points: Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction; 10/27/2017-10/28/2017 (Charlie Palmer Steak - Washington, DC): Rich stone fruit, most prominent at the start. Slightly hollow middle is the only detraction, with good intensity and richness on the finish. Good freshness and vibrancy for the vintage. Overall very good. (3153 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 4/28/2017 & rated 88 points: Well advanced bottle with little coordination or substance across the midpalate. (2446 views)
Tasted by salil on 3/25/2017 flawed bottle: Prematurely oxidized. Bummer - pristine bottles of this should be amazing. (2723 views)
Tasted by etyc on 1/13/2017: 1996-themed dinner at Am Club. (2389 views)
Tasted by Frank Schneider on 10/28/2016 & rated 100 points: The nose , taste and finish of this 20 year old wine was nothing more than perfect. Chardonnay can be different but not better. This was fantastic wine , which i will never forget ! Popped and poured. Amazing !!!!!!! (2687 views)
Tasted by BradE on 1/14/2016: The Boys of Bedrock without Bedrock. BBM and Dujac Clos St. Denis; 1/11/2016-1/14/2016: I found this bottle subdued, and four hours of air didn't change my initial impression. Carl loved it, and truly believes its just a matter of development time. Most of us weren't with him on that. Bottle or wine; not sure. (3167 views)
Tasted by paul195 on 9/18/2015 & rated 95 points: Remarkably light lemony color, with an impressively bright citrus nose and almost chalky minerality, more like a grand cru Chablis than a BBM. After 30 mins this opened up to reveal more of the wines fruit and floral components. This transformation was evident on the palate as well, initially I was struck by the acidity and structure of this energetic 19 year old. Over the next hour the layers of fruit, spice and minerality clung to this wine's vibrant acidity. Texture was both light and rich at the same time and finishes leaving you wanting another sip. Lots of time left for this compelling BBM. (2242 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 4/24/2015 & rated 92 points: quite rich and powerful, a little evolved now. (2360 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 4/1/2015 & rated 94 points: Light petrol, lemon peel, and stones on the nose. Wet rocks, papaya and backpalate lemon peel. Some oyster shell and chalk on the finish. Great acidity on this. While I did not have this wine young, it appears that the acidity has come into better balance versus where it was ten years ago. (2475 views)
Tasted by Flavito on 11/15/2014 & rated 95 points: Amazing complexity, drinking perfectly now. No sighs of oxidation, will last decades! (2811 views)
Tasted by paul195 on 10/13/2014 & rated 95 points: Medium gold color, fresh fruit profile, rich and velvety texture, good balance and integration. More elegant than powerful, still youthful and held up well for several hours. This is a wine I could drink all night. (2134 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
