Retrospective blindtasting of Parker Aussie favorite Oliverhill (Rich and Peggy's Home in Los Altos, California): Group's #2 (my #4) – 32 pts.; 2, 3, 0, 1 - nearly opaque purple red violet color; intense clove, sweet smoke, charcoal, tart black fruit, sweet green herb, menthol nose; tight, intense, tart black fruit, pepper, green peppercorn, gun powder, menthol palate; long finish 91+ points (1570 views) | | Tasted by impresario51 on 1/1/2011 & rated 89 points: Decanter an hour, this had hints of greatness but didn't compare to a Two Hands of similar makeup and age. I kept waiting for more fruit on the finish, just was barely there. (2763 views) | | Tasted by jamieirving on 3/14/2010 & rated 91 points: Established in the early 1970s, Oliverhill Winery is located just outside the town of McLaren Vale, in the'Seaview' region. Producing wines from just three varieties (Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah or Durif as it's called in Oz) their entire production is Vegan friendly.
The Clarendon Shiraz is made from fruit grown by Tony Fagg, on Gosse Road at Clarendon and aged in French oak for 16 months. The resulting wine is very deep indeed. I found aromas of dried fruit, earth, smoke and tar on the nose. The palate is full on savoury. I found white pepper, spice and eucalyptus ending with a touch of violets and well integrated wood tannins. 91 points. (2992 views) | | Tasted by cmr on 5/7/2006 & rated 92 points: Rich and concentrated, very tasty shiraz. (3480 views) | | Tasted by Hoya Vinophile on 12/23/2005: A nose of camphor, licorice, and eucalyptus. (3389 views) |
