Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Drinking Trees on 2/4/2023 & rated 91 points: Nose of Ribena, bay leaf, and campfire smoke. Very dark, slightly closed flavour profile of blackberry, clove, and graphite. Palate is intense, but very smooth, with lots of fine-grained tannin and a touch of bright acid. 16 years old, but still feels pretty young. I think it'll last another 10 years, at least. (250 views)
Tasted by Chaslin on 11/29/2019 & rated 90 points: Nice wine (785 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 4/30/2016: Enjoyed with lunch today and poured from Coravin. This wine was bought five years ago and kept at 55 since. It has NOT hit the end, but it's certainly not on the way up either. This wine opens with plum and clove. A blackberry note in the background is dying off to reveal a darker semblance of this wine. A hint of chocolate that was probably very present about 2-3 years ago was almost absent in the middle. Finishes with some tar, tobacco leaf. A hint of black pepper, tannin dropping out therefore has more of a grittiness. This wine was very enjoyable by itself. A herbaceous note that was present in the first 20 minutes died off and did not return. Given that this one is stored at 55, I'd probably give it about 1 or 2 years more. (1886 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 3/13/2016 & rated 87 points: I think that this one finally hit it's end. I have been wondering how it was holding up so well but this one was ok at the opening but died after an hour and was undrinkable on day 2. Glad it is my last one. (1817 views)
Tasted by Drinking Trees on 10/27/2015: Soft nose, reminiscent of a warm fireplace, with notes of black fruit and anise. Palate is soft and slippery (some glycerin), but with intense tannin and acidity. Flavour resembles blackcurrant cordial, with notes of charred oak and vanilla. (2009 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 9/9/2015 & rated 90 points: Let this sit for a while and it was enjoyed by all. I am still impressed that this has such great depth at its age. (1851 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 9/27/2014 & rated 87 points: Should have read my own notes. We arrived for a week at the beach and popped this upon arrival. A nice drink with food but not a good PNP. Didn't rate lower since it was my blunder. (1960 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 5/23/2014 & rated 89 points: Enjoyed by all. Very smooth. Enjoyed without food. (1286 views)
Tasted by Awilcox on 6/23/2013 & rated 86 points: deep purple, i get the lacquer on the nose but not the spice or vanilla. opens up to some strawberry and earth but very light.
it's ok, but i'd not buy again, very little complexity but pleasant. meh. (2029 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 4/22/2013 & rated 85 points: Not yet a fan. Not much fruit here. Will continue to monitor. (1886 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 4/22/2013 & rated 89 points: A light Shiraz but a tasty one. (1913 views)
Tasted by Drinking Trees on 12/14/2012: Nose of vanilla and lacquer. Palate shows rich vanilla and red fruit, with smooth, powerful tannins and moderate acid. Could benefit from further ageing. (1751 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 8/26/2012 & rated 87 points: OK Shiraz. I don't know why but was hoping for a bit better. Weak finish. Perhaps it will improve with more age. (1650 views)
Tasted by moega on 1/7/2012 & rated 86 points: Wasn't sure exactly what to expect here, I typically don't drink a lot of Shiraz. Like a few of the others here, I didn't get much on the taste and also found it a bit underwhelming. It certainly was pleasant enough to drink but didn't find myself hurrying for a second glass.

Opened up on 2nd day, upping rating to 86. (1567 views)
Tasted by Doherty007 on 10/26/2011 & rated 83 points: Very nice, needs a good 30min air prior to drinking. (1616 views)
Tasted by Ollantay on 10/22/2011: I am going to let my second bottle sit for a year or two before I give it a try.... Because, as much as I did not, not enjoy the first wine, it wasn't as complex as I believe it could become. A bit acidic and underwhelming... (1541 views)
(2705 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 9/5/2011 & rated 88 points: This wine is not a true Shiraz by odor or taste but it can appease those who are not that "well versed" into Shiraz. Upon popping the cork I saw a good purple dark lacing throughout the cork bottom. No sediment on the cork. Wine poured a dark red/light purple hue with some formation of froth on even a light pour. This wine does not have an overabundant nose at all, but there are some very subtle hints of cherry and licorice. The taste on the palate is moderate, with very light spice that is slightly accentuated. This is NOT your big, bold Shiraz so if that's what you're looking for then this is not the Shiraz you want to choose. This is a medium bodied Shiraz that shows some good potential for development over the next 2-3 years. (1451 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 4/16/2011 & rated 90 points: There's a touch of grape gum with some tart berry notes; medium + body, good structure, big soft but dusty tannins, with a touch of strawberry; long finish! Not a fruit bomb... (702 views)
