Pepper, earthy, and oregano on the nose. BIG chocolate on first sips, medium tannins. No big fruit - more dried fruit dates/prunes/figs.
Halfway through the bottle we both got stewed or sun dried tomatoes on the nose. Not a bad thing - more of a subset of "earthy."

While I did get some sense of grenache on the palate, it truly was disjointed. By the end of the first night, I kept getting cola notes. Will let it sit and see how it evolves in 24 hours.
No funky smell the second night. I am now getting the licorice notes and the black fruit taste. And, while the tannins are winning the war, the acidity is putting up a valiant effort. I did not decant this and I must say, it's got the longest strands of sediment I've yet to see in a bottle of wine! (4217 views) |
