(1872 views) | | Tasted by MagicJuan on 1/4/2019 & rated 89 points: Despite being a few years past its ‘drink by’ date, this wine has aged superbly...what was once a classic Chardonnay coloring has evolved in to a deep golden hue, with complex notes of acidic fruit and some buttery/oak flavor. Opens up beautifully as well, improved with some time uncorked (2041 views) | | Tasted by VoteferPedro on 6/3/2017 & rated 92 points: Gold hue the classic oakiness of early 2000 Kistler is subdued and there is a freshness on the nose that is surprising at 14 years. For sure I bought on release and kept cold and dark without moving it so this was optimally stored. The palate is broad and generous with fruit in balance w acidity. I feel it is excellent and could remain so for another 5 years but there is nothing more coming. No real flaws but a tincy monolithic 5+12+17+8 (2909 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 2/16/2016 & rated 96 points: Well, color me surprised. This was opened by a friend tonight during a casual business meeting and it showed extremely well. Deep yellow color with a youthful bouquet of pear, citrus and Lily-of-the-Valley floral qualities. Rich and full without being heavy, with lemon, citrus, honeysuckle and wet stone qualities. I tend to think Parker is full of crap when he likens Kistler/Peter Michael/big CA Chard to Corton Charlemagne or nearly any other terrific Burgundy, but there was definitely a hint of that here. It had the richness and citrus of a great Corton Charlie, so I can't argue with his assessment of this one. Pristine examples such as this will hold a few years yet, but I have no doubt that this bottle was an exception and I certainly wouldn't expect too many more like it. (3537 views) | | Tasted by KenK on 1/31/2015 & rated 92 points: Surprised to find that while some slight nutty flavors from age, this is still s fine drink. Rich lush and bold yet nicely balanced. In the style of a Batard. Drink up. (3930 views) | | Tasted by Peech on 1/2/2015 & rated 92 points: nose was leaner than expected, a little flinty, pretty big toasty corn notes, oaky, buttery. Nice acidity balance here. (489 views) | | Tasted by M DU VIN on 12/23/2014 & rated 92 points: Still drinking very nicely after all those years. No sign of oxidation. (3171 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 9/2/2013 & rated 92 points: Very nice, but it has peaked and seems to be fading a bit. More secondary flavors. Nicely balanced. (3786 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 8/24/2013 & rated 94 points: Citrus, citrus oil, minerals, white pit fruit, vanilla oak, giveing way to toasted brioche and hazelnuts. Lovely layers of flavor. Long finish. Concentrated. Belies its age well. (3824 views) | | Tasted by Tmurphrey on 8/4/2012 & rated 89 points: Pretty good. A couple years past it's prime (4079 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 5/4/2012 & rated 94 points: Dominated by citrus and minerals tonight. Lovely finish. (4025 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 3/3/2012 & rated 95 points: Superb. Drinking beautifully now. A little more tropical fruit and nuts than last time around. (4081 views) | | Tasted by NY Wino on 2/10/2012 & rated 94 points: Delicious...great nose, fruit and finish. Sad it was my last bottle but they are surely ready now and not getting any better. (3204 views) | | Tasted by Ernoid on 11/27/2011 & rated 87 points: Surprising burgundy character for an American wine. (1907 views) | | Tasted by zheem on 8/10/2011: Nose offers very little but oak, although very appealing oak. Flavors very balanced and delicious with more wood flavors (vanilla and sandalwood), ripe pineapple. All is saved by an enticing bitterness that cuts through the richness and sweetness and makes for a vibrant finish of glycerin and fresh ginger root. (3685 views) | | Tasted by VashonWine on 5/7/2011 & rated 94 points: Beautiful golden hue. Grassy nose. First tastes of pineapple and vanilla, follows by apple and sweet plum. The finish was a bit tannic but still overall a tremendously pleasurable wine. (3733 views) | | Tasted by JDRFoster on 4/16/2011 & rated 95 points: Beautiful wine, with nice citrus, buttery brioche, green apple, bosc pear, and core minerality. (3652 views) | | Tasted by JBVino on 11/28/2010: No notes taken (4338 views) | | Tasted by PangurBan on 11/24/2010 & rated 94 points: Still backward and needing some time before revealing itself. Showing stone fruits and wet rocks with notes of hazelnuts. A very impressive wine with a smooth finish that just goes on and on (4345 views) | | Tasted by dmattson on 11/20/2010 & rated 95 points: Very nice. Buttery and very nice. (4571 views) | | Tasted by zheem on 11/2/2010 & rated 91 points: Very prominent oak in the nose overpowers the otherwise very pretty aromas of Mashed potatoes with butter, toasted almonds, and fresh dough. The first night the acidity was almost too much, although balanced some of the other richer flavors. Second night everything is more balanced with the fresh citrusy flavors shining through. Finish is long with a little welcomed "bite", citrus zest and sandalwood. (4396 views) | | Tasted by LOML2008 on 8/13/2010 & rated 95 points: Excellent wine. Crisp. Buttery. Smooth. (4633 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 4/22/2010 & rated 93 points: Same as 2/20/2010 bottle. (4604 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

| Kistler Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma ValleySonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.
Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries. |
