Tasted by mwanasheria on 10/26/2014 & rated 93 points: Consumed by my wife and she says it was slightly less mineral than the 2001 Kistler Kistler Vineyard they had alongside with it. (2330 views)
Tasted by Herb K on 3/6/2014: Indeed, time to drink up... (2512 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 10/23/2013 & rated 92 points: No formal notes. Time to drink up. (2670 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 10/16/2013 & rated 90 points: Medium gold with a green hue, clear, quite little edge variation - the color did not yield much of a clue as to the true age of the wine. Initially a bit reserved on the nose, opening with some time and a little warming. Lemon oil, roasted pineapple, brioche, roasted nuts, nice acid and mineral core. Certainly time to drink up, but a nice example of aged Cali Chard. (2681 views)
Tasted by howardn on 4/13/2013 & rated 89 points: Most Kistler's of this age have failed, but this one with 12 hours of air comes around. (2955 views)
Tasted by VoteferPedro on 1/24/2013 & rated 90 points: found in cellar! COrk was stained to the top but the wine itself was still fresh. The nose was chalkyand minerally. The Color was pale gold and not as evolved as I expected and the buttery and lemon notes that this carried before are now a bit less articulate and the alcohol seems heavy. While it is past its peak it is still a worthy drink if as a weighty and classic Kistler. still drinking well... (1477 views)
Tasted by winotoo on 1/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Still hanging in there. Quite nice and, as is typical, puts on weight with air and as it warms up. (2100 views)
Tasted by VoteferPedro on 11/6/2009 & rated 89 points: buttered popcorn aroma mixed with a spritzy saline, wet rocks
gold hue
full bodied, typical of kistler with a lemony acidity to balance at the end (2358 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 5/2/2009 & rated 95 points: VANILLA, OAK, NUTS, CITRUS, AND APPLES IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. NICE COMPLEXITY AND A LONG FINISH. (252 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 5/1/2009 & rated 88 points: this is hanging in there, but if you have 'em, i'd say drink 'em. some lemon curd and mild oak, a little cumbersome. i'm pretty certain this was my bottle before gifting it to the provider just after release. (2528 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 4/9/2009 & rated 95 points: A stunning bottle of Chardonnay! Bright golden yellow color. Aromas of butterscotch, cloves and white flowers . Oily, thick rich fruit in the mouth with great depth and length. The wine has almost a painful intensity but is balanced beautifully by fine acids and ample but well-integrated oak. Despite its power the wine was not heavy and was a great match with grilled boneless pork chops. A bottle like this reminds me why I have so much Kistler in my cellar! (2442 views)
Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 1/18/2009 & rated 89 points: Dark golden color. Nose and pallet seemed a bit past. Seemed acidic and somewhat out of balance. (2330 views)
Tasted by lshantz on 1/8/2009 & rated 95 points: Bravo! Wonderful apple & citrus, ample texture. If I've ever had a better Chardonnay, I don't remember it. Thanks Kevin! (2309 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 5/13/2008 & rated 93 points: Tasted thrice, with consistent impression. Excellent. Prominent minerality on the nose and palate, with hints of butterscotch, butter, oak, vanilla and citrus, and an exquisite and harmonious finish. 92-94 (2428 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 4/18/2008 & rated 93 points: Still alive, a lovely aged Kistler. (2438 views)
Tasted by ken-yyz on 11/12/2007 & rated 89 points: Starting to show deep gold colour and tasting like it is now starting to decline. Drink up. (2644 views)
Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 11/4/2007 & rated 93 points: Beautiful golden color. Very pungent right out of the bottle. Mineraliness, limestone, butter, lemongrass, and a little stinkiness. Pallet same as nose, but with some additional caramel on the mid / back pallet. This is probably drinking as well as it's going to be. (2640 views)
Tasted by ken-yyz on 5/3/2007 & rated 92 points: A very nice Kistler with some age on it. Nothing over the top and exquisitely balanced. Great texture and length. Lots of minerals and healthy dollops of rie but not sweet fruit. Yumm.

Paired exceptionally well with roast chicken. (2876 views)
Tasted by shine on 2/17/2007 & rated 90 points: Wonderful nose. Tight and thin at first. After an hour when it opened up with vanilla, butterscotch and pineapple. Penty of oak on the finish. (3065 views)
Tasted by dream on 1/3/2007 & rated 82 points: Nice butterscotchy nose. Perfectly stored since release from the winery. Viscous texture with flavors of pineapple and butterscotch but finishes short with some metallic flavors. The wine simply seems to be in decline since it was gorgeous to drink two years ago but now tastes thin and tired. Some Kistler chards seem to age OK while others fall apart. Strange. (3168 views)
Tasted by etirer on 12/9/2006: drank over Thanksgiving, can't imagine it getting any better - fabulous (3605 views)
Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 10/15/2006 & rated 91 points: Moderately dark gold color with a greenish tinge. Nose of limestone, butterscotch, lemon and citrus. Very buttery on pallet with some lemon. Seems not completely integrated yet. Needs some more time to come together. First, get lemon, limestone, and mineral flavors but not in the middle. Then, the butter, caramel, and butterscotch flavors take over; that happens mostly in the middle of the palette. Moderately long pallet. Give it another six months to a year to peak... (3311 views)
Tasted by conadoc on 6/18/2006 & rated 93 points: Mineral and some acid. Lovely fruit. A bit Spartan but still very fine. (3887 views)
Tasted by etirer on 5/2/2006 & rated 95 points: powerhouse of orangy yellow color with apricot, vanilla, and honeysuckle balanced with acidity, crisp without being tart (3937 views)
Tasted by lorenzo on 4/14/2006 & rated 92 points: Kukio Movie Night.
Drank side by side with the 97 Araujo Eisle SBlanc.
Which is the Chard? Araujo was startling with its size (and how well it showed with its age.)
The Kistler was lighter and crisper. Minerals, citrus fruits and some oil. Some wood looming, but much lighter on the palate than the Eisle. (3813 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

Durell Vineyard

Originally planted in 1979 by Ed Durell, this famous vineyard is located in the southwestern foothills of the Sonoma Valley, north of the San Pablo Bay and east of the Petaluma Wind Gap. The site is characterized partly by its Region II climate, where conditions are moderated by the Bay and the Pacific Ocean effects, making it ideal for cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The rocky, volcanic soils at Durell Vineyard create a challenging environment for the vines’ root system, yielding very small grape clusters that have tremendous concentration and power.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
