Tasted by PaulusLoZebra on 9/4/2021 & rated 90 points: Smooth and balanced (for the style) at ten years of age this is hitting its stride, with the alcohol and oak in balance. Excellent QPR. (1253 views)
Tasted by PaulusLoZebra on 1/28/2021 & rated 89 points: The wine (L 35-141113-T43 INV-B-72564) has mellowed a bit since my last bottle 13 months ago. It remains a highly extracted, New World style wine, but this bottle recaptured a bit of the smoothness and balance that previouos bottles of this vintage had shown when younger. Still young-ish and fresh (for the style), it has many more years ahead of it. Not my preferred style of wine, but a crowd-pleaser and an excellent QPR. (1514 views)
Tasted by johnrm on 1/16/2021 & rated 91 points: Deep, opaque red colour, almost black. 4 hours after decanting, the wine showed excellent, ‘sweet’ dark black and red fruits - dark plums, damsons, dark cherries later (eclipsing early tastes of blueberries). Complex layers of flavour developed together with spice. The nose opened quite slowly but was showing really well after another hour of two (6h).
Superb with food (grilled venison steaks) and after the food. The tannins were soft but leathery when first tasted but with food they softened and were a perfect complement. Early oaky flavours developed into fine vanilla flavours and gave a superb ‘luxury’ mouthfeel.
Overall, this is a fine wine with a future. Just avoid judging it when first opened and do have it with food and give it time.
I wish we had more of this vintage. On to the 2012s. (1489 views)
Tasted by studleytrey on 12/12/2020 & rated 88 points: 1/1 of this one. Opaque black coloring with ruby at the very edges. Aromas of black fruit, plums, crushed rocks, and graphite. Medium body, acid, and finish, with forward notes following suit. 87-88 (1580 views)
Tasted by PaulusLoZebra on 12/23/2019 & rated 88 points: When I want a hit of Argentinian extraction I often turn to Siete. I've bought it every year since the first vintage almost two decades ago and will continue to do so, and I always keep older vintages in the cellar to see how they evolve. Unfortunately, time has not been kind to the 2011. It has gotten too jammy since my last bottle in 2015 and I've dropped my rating significantly; it has lost freshness and complexity, and sweetness and size now predominate. This wine is so big now that it cannot accompany most meals; it needs either to be consumed on its own with nibbles, or with a big meal such as BBQ or grilled beef. (2036 views)
Tasted by Wine4Cam on 9/1/2019 & rated 90 points: Dark cherry aromatics hints of leather. Balanced mature fruit and pepper spice on the pallet. Long warm finish. Went great with beef tenderloin and mushrooms. (1509 views)
Tasted by MSheridan on 12/3/2017 & rated 88 points: this wine feels a bit of a keeper. Consumed over 4 days and despite being 6yrs post vintage, this showed best on day 4.
Deep rich bramble fruit which still feels quite primary on opening. A majority of the blend is Malbec (56% Malbec, 14% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot) but the syrah fruit felt like it showed though more than its 12% contribution.
A bit more complexity showed with time but think it will benefit from developing another few years in bottle. (2288 views)
Tasted by tadams66 on 12/23/2016 & rated 89 points: This took a while to come around (1 hour). I also started drinking it alone and it was astringent and overpowering. After time and with a very nice steak, it came into it own. Really very nice dark fruit, great structure and a medium finish. Give it time and have with some nice bold food. (3042 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 11/12/2016 & rated 91 points: One of the best QPR. Big enough to pair with BBQ yet subtle enough to drink alone. (3123 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 3/26/2016 & rated 89 points: Similar to last note, a good value. www.winelx.com (3635 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 2/27/2016 & rated 90 points: A nose of dark fruits and spices, dark purple in color. A medium to full bodied red blend, with blackberry, plum, tobacco and spice on smooth finish, was very good and is in a great drinking zone. www.winelx.com (3499 views)
Tasted by Dale M on 10/3/2015 & rated 90 points: One of the better new world $20 red's I have had in a long time. Big, but full of structure and balance. would buy again. (3735 views)
Tasted by Rob Hansult on 8/28/2015 & rated 91 points: Michel Rolland's Argentine Malbec-Based Big-Boy
(Malbec 56%, Merlot 14%, Cab S 12%, Syrah 12%, CF 4%, Petit Verdot 2%)
Very deep red.
NOSE > Rich, ripe red, black, blue fruit. Strawberry, logan-berry, red-cherry, raspberry, plum & blueberry.
Both sappy & sweet. Oak in background, with anise, hint of sassafras & creosote.
Very ripe/rich fruit, but no raisiny overripeness.
PALATE > More of the same - rich, fruity ripeness.
Black/red/wild/choke-cherry, mulberry, blackberry, wineberry.
Rich, ripe, Big (mostly skin) tannins show up mid-palate, & show more grip on back-palate/finish.
Will need time to resolve. Med intensity & length.
Will certainly improve/soften with a year or 2, but nose the best thing going on here ~ nose 92; palate 88 pts. (859 views)
Tasted by baraca22 on 7/17/2015 & rated 89 points: The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. (3186 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 7/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured. Nose of blackberry, black cherry, currant, and cocoa powder. A velvety, smooth black fruit core combines with dark chocolate and firm gripping tannins on the mid-palate. Leads to a long, fruit-driven, finish. Full bodied with a dense texture. Nice wine and good value. Paired with Tuscan bread soup. (2949 views)
Tasted by Rmjchen on 6/9/2015 & rated 88 points: A bit one dimensional at first. Much better the second day. Showed more secondary flavors and sweet Malbec fruit instead of angular tannins. Overall enjoyable. (2377 views)
Tasted by Epicúreo on 6/7/2015 & rated 80 points: Dark purplish garnet and gooey legs.
Nose: plums, herb garden, pencil lead.
Medium-light body with firm tannins.
Long velvety and smoky, but slightly bitter finish.
Green peppers, radishes, basil, cloves and balsamic carrot nuances. (2260 views)
Tasted by vittorino on 5/30/2015: Churrasco casa Mauricio (1906 views)

Lots of currants, cough syrup type taste, some spices, low acids, soft tannins. Very pleasant looking at the wine, ok enjoyable for me as not quite my taste profile (1730 views)
Tasted by PimpDaddy2Kool on 4/12/2015 & rated 90 points: An Argentine wine that Bordeaux fans will enjoy. Medium bodied and medium finish...very smooth. Always a great QPR. Needs to be decanted at least an hour. (1804 views)
Tasted by PimpDaddy2Kool on 4/4/2015 & rated 90 points: Needs at least an hour decant. Delicious juice. Enjoy! (1711 views)
Tasted by PimpDaddy2Kool on 3/19/2015 & rated 90 points: Be sure to decant at least an hour, because it really need to open up. Otherwise you'll really be sorry.

Dark purple in color. Beautiful nose of black fruit and flowers. Medium bodied and finish. Very silky smooth with berries and smoke on the palate. Has a delicious factor. Just a beautiful wine and great QPR. (1808 views)
Tasted by rcvx on 3/2/2015 & rated 90 points: extracted, showing very ripe fruit (plum and blackberry), spices (cedar) and a light unpleasant chemical odor, all this being confirmed on the mouth, with a long finish, medium to low acidity and firm tannins. There is also an interesting butterish aftertaste. improves a lot after breathing for 30+ mins. (1919 views)
Tasted by PaulusLoZebra on 2/11/2015 & rated 91 points: A bit darker than previous vintages ? One of the best Siete to date, everything is beautifully balanced in a plush New World style. Dark fruit, spice and mineral aromas and flavors; good acid backbone (for this style); ripe (but not over-ripe) with some residual sweetness; highly extracted, full flavors, soft tannins. Delicious ! Argentina

Wines of Argentina

Argentina has been making wine since the 1500s, tracing its wine heritage back to Spain, France and, perhaps surprisingly, Italy. Italian immigration is second only to Spanish in Argentine culture, and the flavors of Italy show up strongly in the nation’s wine, food and cultural tradition. Historically, Argentina has kept much of its wine consumption at home, drinking most of the wine it makes. But we are now seeing more very serious Argentine wines north of the border, and Malbec is leading the movement. The wine-making region in Argentina ranges between the 22° and 42° South latitude. It spreads at the foothills of the Andean mountain range along over 2,400 km; from the province of Salta to the province of Río Negro, with a variety of climates and soils that makes each region a unique land. In general terms, the areas dedicated to vine cultivation are dry and arid with a low level of rain and humidity, determining factor as regards grape health. Abundant sunny days and thermal amplitude favor a good maturity and concentration of aroma and color in the grain. Soils are deep, permeable and poor in organic matter, decisive qualities at the time of obtaining good wine. Due to the low rain regime, irrigation is necessary. Water comes from the Andean range thaw, descending in the shape of rivers to become channels or ditches. Undoubtedly, the combination of these factors turns Argentina into a veritable oasis for the highest quality wine-making. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go. Wine-making in Argentina, at the level that it achieves today, has a young history that goes back to a little more than 10 years ago. Technological progress, investment and some farsighted businessmen enabled a determining transformation. The province of Mendoza is the most traditional area in the viticultural industry, and is diverse enough to be divided into zones, according to their significantly different weather, height and soil characteristics. These include the Northern Zone, which is suitable for fruity whites and young reds, at a height from 600 to 700m; the Eastern Zone, with a height ranging from 600 to 700m, and the most productive zone in the province; the Uco Valley, a zone of colder weather and higher altitudes (between 800 and 1,400m over sea level); San Rafael, with heights ranging from 450 to 800m; and the High Zone of the Mendoza River, with heights ranging from 800 to 1,100m over sea level and various microclimates, this is the zone where almost all noble varieties have easily become adapted. It is a region that is remarkably well-suited to vine culture, protected from the Pacific’s cooling influence by the Andes and enjoying a long summer of cool nights and warm days, with a dry summer climate but plenty of water available from the region’s rivers. Malbec in particular is outstanding from this area, and it has clearly emerged as the star, the darling of both consumers and critics.
