Tasted by Winokdub on 2/14/2022 & rated 91 points: Great all around pinot especially considering its age, it is polished and layered. (660 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 3/11/2021 & rated 94 points: Young...dark...thick rich in the Kosta Browne style...kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries...all layered and interesting integrated . New world style all the way. (1204 views)
Tasted by Thief on 8/15/2020 & rated 94 points: Black cherry, a hint of vanilla and eucalyptus. Very rich chewy tannins and a long balanced finish. (1249 views)
Tasted by bhouk on 3/12/2020: A wine of pleasure. I wouldn’t relegate it to guilty pleasure because there is nothing to feel guilty about. It isn’t subtle and doesn’t ask any deep questions. It is easy company though and it tastes good. No complaints. (1344 views)
Tasted by konadog on 2/10/2020 & rated 90 points: Nothing overly complex. Bright red cherry and some cola (1399 views)
Tasted by Thief on 12/7/2019 & rated 93 points: Bing cherry and rich luscious mouthfeel (1127 views)
Tasted by vinhonotte on 7/30/2019 & rated 89 points: Fine Wines SG - The World of Pinot Noir: Burgundy vs the World (Fine Wines SG): A big fruit-driven nose of summer berries and citrus, and fernish greens. Intense, tannic, and somewhat warm, while the fruits are tending to sweeter and riper flavours, even caramelised. Can imagine it being a popular choice, but the balance could have been better (1193 views)
Tasted by 39sheldon on 6/14/2019 & rated 93 points: Singing, nose hits you on opening and has great SVD flavor, no bricking, enjoy these now. I don't see it getting any better. (903 views)
Tasted by karaseke on 9/22/2018 & rated 93 points: Refined, smooth & balanced, cherry and berry nose and flavors. (1103 views)
Tasted by bradfriedlander on 8/6/2018 & rated 92 points: Very good. Deep extraction. Long finish. Excellent food wine. Long legs. Slightly smoky with a little tar. Mature strawberry nose and taste. (1135 views)
Tasted by bhouk on 12/12/2017: A really appealing cold weather pinot, short on subtlety but long on flavor. Cola, cherries, a little heat (but not overwhelming). Two bottles left and I am thinking one in January and one in February is a good plan. (1442 views)
Tasted by sdahar on 11/23/2017 & rated 90 points: More fruit than I expected which gave a slight jammy taste. Typical Pinot tannins. Nice Pinot that will please everyone (1417 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 10/14/2017 & rated 91 points: Pw/1 hr. decant, slightly chilled. Clear w/tiny amount of very fine sediment. Med purple/ruby color. Usual CA Pinot nose and taste. Good, everyday pour. Med body/flavor intensity/finish. More black than red fruit. Good drinking window. Nothing off. $39 (1601 views)
Tasted by bhouk on 7/4/2017: I bought a few bottles at a wine dinner a few years ago, because, well, wine dinner. Hadn't opened any until tonight, and it is drinking much better than I remember it being at the time of the wine dinner. Spicy cherry and cola, with an emphasis on the spice. Given it to do over again, I would more eagerly buy the same number of bottles I bought at the time of the wine dinner. I don't think this is going anyplace better with more time, and it doesn't need to. Will look for opportunities to consume before the end of the year. (1632 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 12/11/2016 & rated 92 points: PnP, room temp, not decanted. A real nice Pinot typical of Sonoma geography. Med body, classic taste profile, med finish. Nice balance and integration. Nothing off. Great value, $39. (1782 views)
Tasted by rcl1 on 6/2/2016 & rated 94 points: Excellent, balanced. (2249 views)
Tasted by CdrCabernet on 4/22/2016 & rated 88 points: Light plum color with a very fragrant bouquet of rose and strawberry. Very light and nuanced on the palate with notes of spice, black cherry, and cedar. Warm, medium finish that would lead you to drink this too quickly but don't. Sip and savor. Drink now through 2018. (2137 views)
Tasted by rcl1 on 1/15/2016 & rated 94 points: Excellent right out of bottle. All really liked it and commented a lot. Ready to drink but I still think will benefit from decanting. (2417 views)
Tasted by Benj on 10/17/2015 & rated 87 points: Quite dark and moody for a Pinot. Burnt caramel, dark chocolate cherry. A little overtly rich, heavy and sweet for me - not what I'm looking for in a Pinot. A bit much. 14.5%, $48. (2452 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/6/2015: Spice and ripe red fruit, structure on the mid palate, long finish. That's a pretty darn chiseled wine. Holds itself nicely. Youthful now, give it just a year. (2385 views)
Tasted by Jburnam on 9/18/2015 & rated 94 points: Sorry to see my last one go. (1687 views)
Tasted by Randito on 9/5/2015 & rated 94 points: Paired with grilled lamb chops. Vibrant red fruit and dry cherries with cigar tobacco, spice and a well integrated cedar finish. Enjoy now! (1528 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 3/31/2015: Nose of medium intensity, cherry, light spice. Palate shows nicely, red cherry, raspberry, sweet cola, vanilla, acidity is medium plus which is nice. Not terribly complex but good wine. (1844 views)
Tasted by Randito on 2/5/2015 & rated 93 points: Dried cherry, black raspberry, and a hint of cranberry. Densely concentrated, yet light on mid palette. Finishes dry with earthy tones and spice. (1733 views)
Tasted by rcl1 on 1/13/2015 & rated 93 points: Very good! Had at Sur la Place (1321 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
