Tasted by jedwilson on 12/19/2023 & rated 94 points: Well-integrated with a nice finish. Various fruit on the palette. This is ready to drink now. (254 views)
Tasted by VlgJeff on 12/9/2023 & rated 92 points: The Columbia Group - Two and a Half Years Later (Our Place): Popped the cork, poured a half glass, then allowed both to slo-ox for about 45 minutes. Periodic sampling showed the wine opening with a broadening set of aromas (dark fruit and earth) and flavors (blackberry, red currant and touches of graphite and oak). The acidity was just a bit overbalanced, and all tannins were integrated.
This wine was a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabermet Franc and 3% Merlot. I think a bit more air up front - maybe a one hour decant - would have helped as I couldn't help thinking that something was missing - especially given the winemaker and grape source. Or was it because it was up against a really fine bottle of 2003 Cos d'Estournel? Either way, there are many years of enjoyment ahead. (252 views)
Tasted by CRL Stc on 10/28/2023 & rated 94 points: PnP. Opened up over an hour, and by the end of two hours it had only faded a bit. Cork in great shape. Opened side by side with a 2012 vintage which needed an hour in the decanter. Beautiful wine. (270 views)
Tasted by Rond on 10/6/2023 & rated 95 points: Thi is really good. Notes of licorice, dark plum, pencil shavings, and a little dried fruit. A bit hot, but still terrific. (304 views)
Tasted by Rond on 6/16/2023 & rated 94 points: Dark fruit and pencil lead. Still has life. (448 views)
Tasted by Rond on 4/28/2023 & rated 93 points: Notes of dried black fruit and pencil shavings. Soft tannins, but with good body. Still fresh and fruity. (453 views)
Tasted by WineGonzo on 3/17/2023 & rated 94 points: 2nd bottle; good at 1hr and improving. Thick purple. Structured. Red blackberries give way to tar, brick. (485 views)
Tasted by Rond on 12/16/2022 & rated 95 points: The cork broke apart when I opened the bottle, so I feared the worse.
But, luckily, the wine was intact. Complex, with notes of blackberry, pencil shavings, and tobacco. I decanted about an hour before serving. (583 views)
Tasted by Asull2k on 12/7/2022 & rated 93 points: Double decanted and back in bottle for about an hour and then sipped while slow oxidizing over another hour. Dense purple and ruby color. Tar and leather, slight bramble and hint of blackberry on the nose. Lots of leather, some licorice, cocoa, and blackberry on the palate with ~35 sec finish. Reminded me of an aged Chateau Montelena crossed with Dr. Crane. This is drinking nicely right now. (629 views)
Tasted by Rond on 7/3/2021 & rated 93 points: Very rich, tasting of ripe dried berries. Opulent but well balanced. Drinking very nicely. (1063 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 6/21/2021: Held its own vs many 2010 big boys. Darker fruits, cocoa, a touch bitter. (966 views)
Tasted by andrewdl on 2/14/2021 & rated 96 points: Drinking really well after 2 hr decant. (1056 views)
Tasted by Rond on 12/27/2020 & rated 93 points: Delicious! After a short decant, it was vibrant and fruit forward. Lots of life left. (914 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 1/27/2019 & rated 94 points: Decanted and drank over 2 hours. Old world in style, bittersweet chocolate, hints of beef, good tannic and acid profile, medium finish. Nicely done. (1436 views)
Tasted by jeffm_fla on 5/24/2017 & rated 92 points: Nice Napa flavor profile. A bit flabby, perhaps, but very easy and pleasant to drink. (1810 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 5/17/2017 & rated 91 points: Dark mocha fruits, very structured, old world in style, a bit tiring to drink at the end bc of acid/tannin profile. I hope with some more time this softens a bit, try again in 2-3 years. (1605 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 2/16/2016 & rated 90 points: Slightly soft for my palate, it finally gained some weight 2 hrs in,
But it really never popped as expected.
Flabby is what comes to mind, esp at this price point! (2237 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 2/7/2016 & rated 94 points: Good, limited notes. (2255 views)
Tasted by jeffm_fla on 10/29/2015 & rated 91 points: This wine is good, but not really noteworthy for a Napa Cab blend at this level. Nose, flavors, and mouthfeel are all good, but nothing exceptional. It feels like, given good (expensive) Napa grapes, M. Rolland could pretty much phone this one in. Competent, but uninspired, with plenty of better wines at this price. (2054 views)
Tasted by ChrisRCarroll7@gmail.com on 12/10/2013: Deep Ruby Red/ Purple color. Medium + Intensity. Red Cherry and raspberry on the nose. Flavor of Creme de cassis and full bodied. Strong well integrated tannins and rich finish. Also, get espresso and bit of chocolate on finish. Awesome Napa Cab. (495 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 11/16/2013 & rated 93 points: This is the debut vintage for Michel Rolland in California for his wine. This 250 case wine is a blend would be right at home in the Left Bank of Bordeaux with its usage of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabermet Franc and 3% Merlot. The wine is rich, concentrated, lush and oaky, with ample notes of licorice, dark berres and cocoa to complicate the aromatics. This is fleshy, flashy and forward. It will be an interesting wine for fans of Rolland to follow. (3471 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
