Tasted by oaxaca90049 on 11/19/2021: gorgeous wine as always. This vineyard never disappoints. (1395 views)
Tasted by Michael_D on 10/31/2021 & rated 90 points: Still drinking nicely. (1335 views)
Tasted by Jnispel on 6/25/2021: This does not seem to be aging well. Huge wine at 16.4% ABV per the label. It has veered off into stewed fruit and become port-like. Also, this has been stored under ideal conditions since purchased from the winery. I think these older, super-ripe Turley Zins simply must be consumed reasonably young or this will be their fate. Live and learn. (1540 views)
Tasted by Martysfo on 4/9/2021 & rated 95 points: This is a great wine. Jammy without being obnoxious, spicy yet refined, and even though it has 15% alcohol, it is elegant and nuanced. Great stuff. (1637 views)
Tasted by JJN on 3/7/2021 & rated 88 points: Going fast. drink up (1631 views)
Tasted by senesd on 12/19/2020 & rated 92 points: drinking well right now - good balance and not hot at all given the alcohol level. Nice earthy nose with plum and berry fruits (1021 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 12/2/2020 & rated 90 points: I think Dusi’s are best before the 10 year period. They tend to prune out as they age. This was good, not yet reaching the prune stage. Good acidity, depth of zin fruit. Drink now. (1056 views)
Tasted by beerenauslese on 11/28/2020 & rated 92 points: I enjoyed this lighter style of Zin. (960 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 5/23/2020 & rated 91 points: There haven’t been too many wines I find more mystifying than Turley’s Dusis. Ridge’s versions tend to be more restrained, lower in alcohol but those Turleys can often be huge, pruned, overdone, porty...not great. I feel like they’ve become more restrained since Tegan took over from Ehren, all in a good way. A little heat but otherwise ripe but restrained fruit, cracked pepper and nice zinberry fruit. Not for the faint of heart but still a much better Dusi than I’ve found through the years here. (1146 views)
Tasted by OliverC on 4/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Spice and lots of fruit on the nose. Jam, big red summer fruits initially turning to black fruit, lots of spice. Yet smooth. A very fat wine helped by the alcohol. Lush. (1117 views)
Tasted by boredo on 4/2/2020: Loads of very ripe red and black fruit, spice, noticeably high alcohol. Intense, concentrated sweet fruit is slightly offset by moderate acidity. (1090 views)
Tasted by FrancoisC on 4/1/2020 & rated 89 points: Trop sucré et beaucoup trop alcoolisé. Tant qu'à boire ça, je préfère de loin un porto. (1158 views)
Tasted by yatchisin on 3/12/2020 & rated 94 points: This was really singing--blackberry, raspberry, plum, bramble and spice. So well integrated for a wine that's 16.3%. (1105 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 11/17/2019 & rated 92 points: From a coravin. Lots of spices, sandalwood, and alcohol on the nose. The palate is intense juicy black fruit, brambly oak, black pepper, tannins and acid in the finish. Mouth coating, glycerine heft. A hint of sweetness that I simply don't find in the Old World red wines I've been enjoying lately. Great with my grilled burger tonight. (1312 views)
Tasted by alohaboys on 2/4/2019 & rated 89 points: Rich blackberry. Slightly sweet. High etoh. (1645 views)
Tasted by raiderwes on 1/9/2019 & rated 92 points: very fine; the last bottle is drinking well (1608 views)
Tasted by whudock on 11/27/2018 & rated 91 points: slight plum taste along with the cherry and spice that are core to this wine. Worked equally well as a "pop and pour" and after it got more air. Generous finish, very well balanced. (1660 views)
Tasted by btock on 10/7/2018 & rated 91 points: Huge! Dark purple coloring. Very rich fruit profile. Bigger than I recall the previous bottle drinking. Over 16% and it showed, not in heat but in style. Bit over the top. (1630 views)
Tasted by Salute on 7/17/2018 & rated 93 points: BIG fruit, jammy. But it carries it well - not overly "sweet" like a Caymus Cab. After the fruit a nice balance of spice comes in for a long finish. THIS is a spectacular Turley zin (1791 views)
Tasted by bbcc66 on 6/23/2018 & rated 88 points: Decanted 1 hr. Nice, but not vibrant, tastes of ripe red & dark berries. Not as good as previously tasted bottles. (1441 views)
Tasted by Blackwa on 1/26/2018 & rated 92 points: Very jammy with thick layers of fruit flavors. Berry and fig jam aromas wrapped in vanilla tinged barrel flavors are very intense for this wine. Full bodied and lower acidity this one is best drank by itself with an alcohol level above 16%. Nice wine though. (1753 views)
Tasted by btock on 11/24/2017 & rated 93 points: Served with pot roast. So deceptive, wears the 16%+ alc so well. Juicy purple fruit, youthful but not over the top. Very well made old vine zin. Restrained/contained, tons of flavor, but not tons of heat. Turley style at its best. Deep purple coloring, all about that black fruit core and hint of Paso dust. Liked this very much. Drinking well now, but built to go a little longer. Will seek to enjoy my 2nd bottle in next 1-2 yrs. (1787 views)
Tasted by PinotPaul on 11/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Nice bright fruit. Lovely finish. (1728 views)
Tasted by Reblin on 10/4/2017 & rated 90 points: Big, rich, ripe fruit. Smooth, full in the mouth. Paired well with pork (1926 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 9/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured at a restaurant, no decant. Dark purple, expressive nose of black fruits and spice. Big on the palate, smooth, with the Turley pepper that is sometimes missing from the northern realeases these days. Long finish. Paired with pot roast, good stuff. (1767 views)

2012 Turley Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard

2012 Turley “Dusi Vineyard” Zinfandel, Paso Robles.
The Dusi vineyard was planted by Dante Dusi in 1945, and it is farmed by his family to this day. The vines are head-trained and dry-farmed, planted in soil that is mostly alluvial with some very large rocks. Like our other vineyards in the area, Dusi is on the west side of Paso Robles. In 2012, as in years past, we see dark fruit, berries, loam, and crushed rocks on the nose. The richness of the fruit on the palate is balanced by well-integrated gravelly tannins. Smooth, round, with a nice kick of spice.

Dusi Vineyard

The head-pruned old vines of the Dusi Vineyard have come to define the intense bramble-berry flavors of Paso Zin. Planted in the calcareous soils of the West Side, these dry-farmed vines produce small quantities of fruit with dense concentration and wild spice. [Four Vines Wine Club, 1/2010]

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
