| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 40 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by NoWineWiz on 8/31/2023 & rated 90 points: PnP, then 15 min. in the glass. Full-bodied and well-integrated black and blue fruit, dry tobacco. Lightly-tingling tannins and medium-long finish. Solid throughout the night and the next day. (77 views) | | Tasted by Four Skulls on 7/30/2020 & rated 92 points: Alas ... not many left (543 views) | | Tasted by WineCPA on 7/15/2020 & rated 97 points: Wish I had bought a case of this. Still lots of life left. Black and red fruit all over the palate. A hint of chocolate on the finish along with leather. Moderate tannins still veryjch alive. (578 views) | | Tasted by Four Skulls on 7/7/2020 & rated 90 points: Wish they still made this wine (538 views) | | Tasted by bmartz1 on 5/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Nose a bit minty and herbaceous. Mouth feel is generous though not as dense as a Sarocka. Feminine, temperate, red fruit. Herbaceousness persists through the finish of the wine. (548 views) | | Tasted by bmartz1 on 5/17/2020 & rated 92 points: Lucious ruby in the glass thinning toward the edge. Nose hinted at more than just a juice box - surprisingly complex, more than I was expecting. Dark fruit without overwhelming, touch of cocoa, supple tannins, balanced acidity. Firm bodied but not overwhelming. Thoughtfully constructed. Mellow but lingering finish. Sweeter and more feminine for a cab but somehow accomplishes this without being a fruit bomb. Silk charmeuse in the mouth (505 views) | | Tasted by Four Skulls on 3/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Aged very well. Wish they still made this blend. Prefer it over the newer versions. (200 views) | | Tasted by Sugarb on 1/29/2017 & rated 90 points: Pleasantly surprised by this. Third bottle of night, drank well. Nice fruit, especially on the nose. (1411 views) | | Tasted by BrunelloBob on 9/14/2016 & rated 90 points: Definitely Napa, but not as powerful as I expected/hoped (1615 views) | | Tasted by brooklynwine on 5/7/2016 & rated 91 points: Drinking well right now. Bigger and badder than my last tasting a year ago. Also, seems to have added a little complexity. Super new world and damn tasty. Don't think anymore age will help all that much. (1949 views) | | Tasted by csimm on 12/18/2015 & rated 90 points: Tasted alongside the 2012 Sarocka Estate and 2012 Antra.
Notes of plum, ripe red currant, muddled raspberry, forest floor, cedar, and clove. A blue fruit note appears on the back end, finishing off with the earth notes repeating.
Lacks some complexity, with the mid-palate a little hollow, but still manages to deliver plush fruit for some immediate gratification. Could not compete with the 2012 Sarocka or the 2012 Antra.
Certainly a short term wine, with possibly another few years of prime drinking. Drink now through 2019 tops. (3101 views) | | Tasted by rickspicks on 10/19/2015 & rated 92 points: Hedonistic, lush, and overflowing with fresh, deep, ripe blackberry/boysenberry and cassis flavors. Highly concentrated with a smooth, full-bodied texture and a big, firm structure with drying tannins that balance nicely with all the ripe fruit. Long, fruity finish. Very new world / fruit-forward and not a style I normally enjoy, but the firm structure made this a very enjoyable exception. (2062 views) | | Tasted by brooklynwine on 4/11/2015 & rated 90 points: 90+ Juicy California Cab. On both the nose and palate creme de cassis, dark chocolate, coffee, and well integrated oak. It displays a nice mouthfeel and finish but lacks a certain pizzazz and complexity that would take it to the next level. Well made and at a good price! (1559 views) | | Tasted by Number51 on 4/7/2015 & rated 93 points: Candied plums, skittles, cassis, roses, gentle spices, and citrus infused toffee flavors are balanced beautifully by a good amount of acidity. While this is aromatically bombastic and very new world in style, there is a sense of gracefulness that is achieved by its silky texture. There is no earthiness in sight. This is 100% new world. As long as you can appreciate such style of wine, you will like this. 14.4% alc (1297 views) | | Tasted by rickspicks on 4/4/2015 & rated 91 points: Almost black in color with very dark fruits, along with graphite and spice. Very ripe, rich and concentrated with a long-ish finish. It is almost over-ripe and over-rich, but has just enough structure and acidity to keep it from being syrupy. This reminds me of a big Australian cab-shiraz. Nothing elegant or sophisticated here, this is a bruiser. (1141 views) | | Tasted by WineCPA on 3/16/2015 & rated 93 points: Very good Napa Cab. Lots of dark red and black fruits on the nose and palate. A good dose of spice. Hints of graphite and leather to round out a classic Napa Cabernet profile. Outstanding for $30. Very pleased at this QPR. Has form tannins, so cellaring is a good bet. Drink now-2020. Next and last in 2017-18. (1062 views) | | Tasted by rickspicks on 2/7/2015 & rated 92 points: Nice nose of dark fruits and spices. Big, bright, blackberry and boysenberry fruits with oak and spice. Medium bodied, slightly chewy, with coarse, drying tannins, good balance and a lingering finish. A bit rustic, but overall quite enjoyable. (1056 views) | | Tasted by Eurocave on 9/29/2014 & rated 92 points: Well balanced from start to finish with bold dark fruits, rich flavour, long finish and a wonderful match with lamb and steak. | Scully Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Mt.
